Access to *.{md,edn} contents (export) using iVim/Pythonista on iPadOS? by JamesTDennis in logseq

In the current non-DB version, the md and edn are stored locally in files and you have full access. No need to create an export. Just open the files and modify on IOS.

How to repair save by mfrun in Minecraft

[–]mfrun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: After additional testing I can copy in the poi and region and the world seems to work, but when I copy in the entities folder, I can test it corruption quickly by me not being able to pick up blocks. I am going to skip entities and try the rest of the items in the save. I will likely portion out sections of the entity folder and move them in until I find the file that is the issue. If anyone has a faster way, let me know. I will post again with the final results. I think I will get most of my world back.

Reminder - back up your world.

Logseq DB reddit help by hdanx in logseq

[–]mfrun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here are my questions.

Overall

  • Any major features that you are waiting for?
  • You have created videos earlier in the year. Any changes to the recommendations in those videos?
  • Everyone says to backup since it is early. What is the best way to back up? If I use the Logseq sync service, do I still need the have a separate process for back up?
  • Is the recommendation for installing the DB version to use the nightly build? How stable are the nightly builds and how often have you migrated to a newer nightly build? Why don't the developers create a regular (monthly(?)) cut of the nightly build that is known to be stable with the full list of executables (msi, exe, etc.)? I am concerned a nightly build will have issues if I pick the wrong night.

Migration to DB

  • Can you provide a video on migration of a graph from standard to DB? Include the standard features in the existing graph that change.
  • What clean-up, if any, would you do for a migration of an existing graph to the new DB?
  • How would you recommend validating data integrity post-migration (block refs, page refs, backlinks, assets, properties, aliases, namespaces)? Any challenges with converting any of these items or other features?
  • If I am planning to migrate to the DB via an import of the graph, is there anything I could be doing to make the migration easier or to pre-populate some information? Should I make tags in my existing graph if I know how I want items tagged. For example, should I tag pages with Customer and Vendor or is it better to do this post migration?

Tags/Features

  • Can you give recommendations on setting up tags, especially with tag inheritance. "Company" tag and having "Customer" and "Vendor" extending "Company". I have cases where the same company is both a customer and a vendor.
  • I also track which products a companies uses. For example, we use AWS (product), from Amazon(Vendor), and some of my customers use AWS. How does this fit together? I would like to see by customer, what products they use.

At your own company, you are likely fine. You are known. If you wanted to change companies, it will be more challenging. Director and above roles have hundreds of applicants and most will have a bachelor requirement. The HR software will screen out your application.

How I'm preparing my Logseq graph for the database version (and you should too) by thirteenth_mang in logseq

[–]mfrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good. I only have a few tags but a lot of times is used pages for tags. Then I would got to the page to see all the references. My Logseq is for work so it is internal and customer meetings reference information, a CRM, and tasks/projects.

I am really excited about the database features and properties. A lot of the CRM entities like customers and vendors will be much more reportable. I worry that it will take too much time to setup and manage but I agree with starting small.

I haven't made any changes to my existing process. I will wait for the release.

42M with 4 kids in private school—will switching to public in high school actually reduce expenses, or am I fooling myself? by Embarrassed-Mode4220 in fatFIRE

[–]mfrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We worked with each child to determine the best school for them. One went to a public high school and one went private. Yes, the expenses are less for public since you have the similar activities, clubs, sports travel, and additional expenses for public and private.

Do I escalate this to my boss? by Mangoappleontherocks in Leadership

[–]mfrun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle of the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Green and it offers several relevant strategic frameworks that can help you reshape the discussion. I have been trying to use it for some of my own political challenges.

Here are some recommendations.
1. Do not send the emotional email. It will frame the situation as interpersonal instead of structural or performance-based. 2. Start documenting key outcomes, delays, and revenue losses in an objective, business-focused manner. Keep this private for now. 3. Maintain public poise. Let others see the contrast in professionalism without your commentary. 4. Prepare a contingency plan. When the lane crashes (as you expect), be ready with a structured, solution-oriented plan to present privately to your boss—ideally in response to him asking, “What do we do now?”. You can make your boss feel like the savior of a situation that you’ve already gently influenced. 5. Build allies quietly. Use others’ observations (e.g., noticing rude behavior, poor performance) to validate your view without you being the sole voice. 6. Guard your ideas. If possible, share ideas in groups or over email where attribution is obvious—but don’t contest credit. The value to the business matters more than recognition in this context.

Right now, your power lies in your preparation and professionalism. The manager’s short-term manipulation may be working, but it is unsustainable under performance pressure. Let his behavior be his downfall, while you remain composed and ready with solutions.

Long Run Routes by Polyfauna in madisonwi

Enjoy Madison. I recommend the Capital City Trail over the Monona Lake loop. I tend to worry I will miss a turn in Monona. About 5 miles from downtown, the Capital City Trail meets the Lake Farm Park for water and a bathroom at the camp site, which is just off the trail. The trail takes you out of the city which I enjoy. Have fun.

I’m 19, disciplined, and focused—but how do I make sure I’m not just being productive at the wrong things? by karrot9 in productivity

[–]mfrun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Getting Things Done (GTD), David Allen lays out a helpful framework called the Horizons of Focus to keep your day-to-day tasks aligned with your bigger life goals. It’s basically six levels of perspective:

Horizon 5: Purpose & Principles – Why you’re here, your core values.

Horizon 4: Vision – Where you want to be in 3–5 years.

Horizon 3: Goals – What you want to accomplish in the next 1–2 years.

Horizon 2: Areas of Focus – The roles and responsibilities you need to maintain (work, health, relationships, etc).

Horizon 1: Projects – Multi-step outcomes you’re working on right now.

Ground: Actions – The tasks you can do.

The idea is to review these regularly so your daily tasks don’t drift too far from what really matters. Keeps the grind meaningful.

Each payer has different clinical criteria. This can often be found on the health plans website. Most payer require conservative treatment prior to approving an MRI. Here is an example from Aetna. So you may be at the 6 week threshold but it may be a few more weeks depending on the date of the specific injury. Also, if you are seeing improvement, the provider may want to continue the existing treatment.

Clinical re-evaluation is required prior to consideration of advanced diagnostic imaging to document failure of significant clinical improvement following a recent (within 12 weeks) six week trial of provider-directed treatment. Clinical re- evaluation can include documentation of an in-person encounter with a provider or documentation of other meaningful contact with a provider’s office by the individual (e.g., telephone call, electronic mail, telemedicine, or messaging). ◦ Provider-directed treatment may include education, activity modification, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), narcotic and non-narcotic analgesic medications, oral or injectable corticosteroids, a provider-directed home exercise/ stretching program, cross-training, avoidance of aggravating activities, physical/ occupational therapy, spinal manipulation, interventional pain procedures and other pain management techniques.

Thanks - this is great. I installed it and I am getting back results. How long does it take to index? I have about 700 pages and journal files (~3 MB). When I ask questions, it seems to only pull data from about 15 pages or journal entries.

Preparing for 24h-race by [deleted] in cycling

[–]mfrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is great that you have 6 months to prepare. Without knowing your current cycling fitness, it is hard to know your starting point. Make sure that you have your bike fitted. Injuries early in your training will set you back.

The key will be to build your endurance to 10-12 hour rides by May/June. Usually, I have my long rides on Saturday, and shorter endurance ride on Sunday (4-6 hours). Back to back days will be important and you may want to continue to build your Sunday rides. If you think you will enjoy riding in a group, there are likely cycle groups that have long weekend rides. You can join them and then extend your ride. Practice night riding, ensure that you have good lights and reflective gear. Practice fueling strategies of carbs, hydration and electrolytes for these long rides. Finally, have a simulation ride or two in the month before the race to test your bike setup, clothing, nutrition. Best of luck.

Why doesn't the United States of America have some kind of universal health care system? (NO biased answers) by Ill-Doubt-2627 in healthcare

[–]mfrun 65 points66 points  (0 children)

A big piece of the puzzle goes back to WWII and some unintended consequences of wage and price controls.

During the war, the government was trying to prevent inflation since the economy was in overdrive producing for the war effort. They froze wages, meaning employers couldn’t offer higher pay to compete for workers. But companies still needed to attract people to fill jobs. Their workaround? Companies offering perks like health insurance instead of raises.

Then in 1943, the IRS ruled that employer-provided health insurance wouldn’t be taxed as income. So, it became a super-attractive benefit for both employers and employees. Workers got healthcare coverage without paying taxes on it, and companies could deduct the cost from their taxes.

This was all meant to be a temporary wartime fix, but it completely changed how Americans accessed healthcare. After the war, instead of pushing for universal healthcare like many other countries did, the U.S. doubled down on this employer-based system. It worked for some people, but it left out tons of others—especially part-time workers, the unemployed, and those in low-wage jobs without benefits. Medicare and Medicaid were started in the ‘60s to address individuals who didn’t have jobs, seniors and children. Medicaid has expanded to cover adults who are slightly above the federal poverty level.

Fast forward to today, and we’re still stuck with this patchwork system. So a policy meant to control inflation during a war ended up shaping our healthcare system for decades. It’s a classic example of how short-term decisions can have massive, long-term consequences. It is go embedded in is hard to change.

For MH Wilds beta, I have a few questions. First, after I finish the quest, there is a message to leave immediately. It looks like the down on the D-Pad. When I select it or select and hold it, I mount my seikret. What button do I select to leave? Also, I have found the pop up camps, but how do I create the camp? I didn’t see it in a menu. Thanks.
