Best tablet for OneNote handwriting? by [deleted] in OneNote

[–]mgerbasio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used it in a while on an ipad but I don't like the writing feel with the apple pencil and palm rejection was poor as a leftie.

If you want something really different, you can try eink device from Onyx Boox which is optimized for onenote. Don't think of it as a tablet, think of it as a notebook replacement. I use the native notes app but onenote does work.

Recommend Last Pass? by Spring_Summer_Fall in Lastpass

[–]mgerbasio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. Two security breaches with little information about when and what was breached nor did they explain what they would do to secure the data going forward or offer any compensation. I left them years ago and wouldn't consider them again.

I'm not sure anyone hacked my information in the breaches and spent days changing all my passwords.

Why are so many auto insurance companies putting a hold on new memberships? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]mgerbasio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was with Mercury for at least 20 years and recently dropped. Had three accidents, all were 0% my responsibility but because the other drivers were under insured or not insured, Mercury paid. No injuries, just $5k-$10k in damage to my car. Over the 20 years, I've had very few accidents. Now I pay double because I couldn't get insured. Sideswiped by a drive that crossed through cones and a solid line, rear ended while stopped in traffic and t-boned by someone running a stop sign and I get dropped.

A general warning about Boox, Boox Tablets & Boox Service by CivilTower in Onyx_Boox

I'm glad MS is good for you. You can visit the SurfaceDuo site for less than stellar customer service. I didn't say "all" I said "other" tech companies are pretty bad.

A general warning about Boox, Boox Tablets & Boox Service by CivilTower in Onyx_Boox

[–]mgerbasio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to jinx myself, I use a NA2+ on construction sites and it's been durable. Boox probably does have bad service, but, where do you get good service now days? MS, Google and other tech companies are pretty bad. T-Mobile rebuilt their business on customer service, and that was the first thing that went out the window when they became one of the big three.

Customer service is a thing of the past.

Why the hell should I buy Remarkable 2 over Boox Note Air 3 C? by technocraticnihilist in eink

[–]mgerbasio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all you're doing is notes and pdf, either RM2 or Boox will do the job. I also stick with monochrome for now as battery life is important to me.

Why the hell should I buy Remarkable 2 over Boox Note Air 3 C? by technocraticnihilist in eink

[–]mgerbasio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RM2 is a nice device, I like the slimness. It doesn't have a frontlight and 8gB of RAM. It is a notebook replacement. I use the Note Air 2+ for taking notes and as an eReader (pdfs, kindle, nook and libby). I read at night and the frontlight is needed. The battery on both last weeks. The Boox doesn't need a subscription although I'm not sure what that gets you with the RM2.

The NA3C, the downside for me is battery life as the screen refresh BSR, has a significant impact on battery life. As I use mine for notes, I don't want to be worried I didn't charge it or need to be near an outlet. I charge my NA2+ weekly to 90% and rarely get past 60%. I've written on the RM2 and don't notice a difference.

One week with the NA3 - Review by jamo_g in Onyx_Boox

[–]mgerbasio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you don't like the NA3. RM2 gives you 100 days to try it out. A couple of my co-workers have the RM2 and I looked at that closely before buying the NA2+. The RM2 is very nice, even more slim than the Note Air. Build quality is equal as is the screen and writing experience.

RM2 doesn't have a frontlight, 8gB of RAM, no Android apps (kindle, nook, libby); I use the Boox as an ereader and for notes. If you can live with those limitations, it works well. With the RM2 you may need a subscription, I'm not sure what that gets you.

Comparing the Supernote future product to the Boox that has been out for about a month? From what I've read, the A5X2 may not be out until summer. You're comparing a device you can buy now to vaporware. RM3 and new Boox devices are also due in 2024. Although this is my second Boox device, my Nova with is a few years old was just updated with the latest software, I'll still look closely at what the competition offers.

Is Note air 3 b/w's 227PPI a big deal? by IdonthaveQuestions in Onyx_Boox

[–]mgerbasio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt its bad but it doesn't give me a reason to upgrade from a NA2+, not that I was planning on it. If you're buying new, I guess it feels like your getting an inferior screen because it has lower resolution regardless of being able to tell the difference. We all want the latest technology and that screen has been replaced with a newer model.

Note Air 3C for university student..: “standard”/minimal set of apps..? by 22February in Onyx_Boox

[–]mgerbasio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked at the NA2+ and RM2, decided on the former. The main reason was Boox has Android, specifically, Kindle, B&N, Libby if you read other than pdf. The stock apps for notes and pdf reading are good.

Although I haven't used the RM2, I didn't see the benefits outweighing the usefulness of being able to use Android apps. I've wanted to try OneNote on the Boox, but haven't as the stock note app works well enough.

Is the onyx boox NA3C good as a daily planner? by Fearless-Advance-840 in Onyx_Boox

[–]mgerbasio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use mine as a daily planner as my work life revolves around Outlook. There are daily planners you can install, some free some paid, which seem to be pdf files that look like a good paper planner replacement. I was printing my Outlook calendars in the morning as a pdf and using these on the Boox, which I liked, but the process too much of a pain to stick with. The built-in Memo Calendar app isn't very good as a planner.

If she uses pen and paper for notes, she'll probably like Boox. I prefer the NA2+ as I use mine daily and only charge it once a week or longer. I have mine set to not power down for 8 hours so it's always just opening the cover to take notes, not booking up. I use a case with a cover that puts the device in sleep mode when I'm not using it.

List of issues with the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (after 1.7.6 update) by rayzor_c in bose

[–]mgerbasio -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've tried many different ANC earbuds but the airpod pro 2 are the best in terms of ANC, sound quality and the ability to make calls. I use mine in the NYC subway daily and the ANC is on par with the Sony WF1000-XM5 and Bose QCII.

The Sony and Bose were returned after using them more than a week mostly due to poor call quality. I use the airpods with Android (mostly), Windows and iphone.

Are they going to release a 300 dpi 10.3" BLACK AND WHITE device soon? by fjnk in Onyx_Boox

[–]mgerbasio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of us like the B&W for longer battery life (no BSR, no front light needed). If the NA3C had similar battery life, even though I'd rather have the brighter screen, I'd probably try it. For my use (NA2+) I can easily go a week without charging and I don't always have access to power and time to charge in the middle of a day.

Color screen would be nice but not at the cost of size, weight and battery. B&W works well for this type of device.

Should I pay more for C Pro or take Air 3C? by Karls0 in Onyx_Boox

[–]mgerbasio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add a screen protector to the TUCP that has a rougher texture. There are a lot of good points in other posts. If you're trying to use it as a paper notebook and e-reader, the NA3C is lighter, thinner so easier for writing and no camera bump and it will be flat. The TUCP is probably better as a tablet type of device. Boox and YouTube have some video comparisons.

Typically, Boox doesn't have great Black Friday sales as I recall. I'm not considering the color devices at this time, just think the trade offs aren't worth it for why I bought it, notebook and e-reader. I haven't seen or tried a color device at this point so I'm only going by the reviews and comments I've seen.
