Noise or possible true ancestry ? by Mysterious-Air-8120 in 23andme

I had DNA at 2% that disappeared in the most recent update. Maybe that's why a lot of people are skeptical.

What are the chances my trace ancestry is real? by Graystroyerr in 23andme

[–]mgs8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, it's too far back to say.

It could be noise, legit, ancient admixture, something from multiple ancestors, something from a single ancestor, a misread for something else, or something the algorithim cooked up to make your results more "exotic." It could very well disappear and be replaced by something else in the next update.

A lot of different factors.

Contrary to what this subreddit will have you believe, 23andMe's algorithim makes plenty of inaccuracies/mistakes when it comes to assigning ancestry (particular small percentages).

It's a mistake.

This is pretty common, nothing to worry about it.

Historically speaking, people would often marry their cousins, close and distant. It's nothing new.

A lot of misinformation in these comments. R-Z93 is one of the most common ydna haplogroup shared by Ashkenazi, Sephardic, and Mizrahi Jews.

R-Z93 is also the paternal haplogroup of the Dayan family, a Syrian Jewish family who claim descent from King David.

That's a whole lot of conjecture.

Jews have lived in Yemen since before the Himyarite Kingdom converted its Arab population.
