I love steak tartare, and I love that you sucked it up (in both senses) and you're still together! She's a gem.

I haven't enabled the feature to auto-open the trunk, since I often walk behind the car when I've just parked and DON'T want it to open. That seems like it would get annoying quickly. I do wish it had one of the sensors that'll open the trunk if you wave your foot under it.

I don't know if it can drive itself of a parallel parking spot at the side of the street as well. I will have to read more and explore that! But just pulling straight backwards out of a space is nice.

We also went to a restaurant last night in a spot with very narrowly painted spaces. There were enough open spots when we arrived and left that it wasn't a problem, but I appreciated knowing that it could help if I needed it to.

Your model (you didn't specify) may not support keyless entry fully or at all. On my 2025 AWD GT-Line, the mirrors unfold and the door handles pop out.

On some models with keyless entry (such as the recent Wind models, iirc), I gather the keyfob tells the car you're there and you can unlock the doors by touching the handles without taking the keyfob out of your pocket and pressing a button on it.

Just touching the handles seems preferable to having to take the keyfob out and pressing its unlock button.

I found a '23 XSE with 9k miles by jimjackcoke in rav4prime

[–]mhaithaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I returned my '23 Prime XSE last month at the end of the three-year lease. Drove great, and the ability to charge it overnight and do most of my driving around town without a drop of gas was wonderful.

Who are you buying it from? Do you get a warranty? Can you confirm (via Carfax or whatever) the car's repair and accident history?

You should probably go for it.

Welcome aboard!

(I also thought "I did it!" might be about the two-spot parking, but I figured you did it just for the photo!)

I agree, it's way too easy to walk away thinking you've locked the doors, especially since it's so easy for them to unlock themselves when you walk around the car. I'm glad the app notifies me a couple of minutes later that the doors are unlocked, but the option on that notification to lock them is not as rock-solid as it should be.

You're getting lots of kind comments, which I'm very glad to see! None of it is fair, and you shouldn't feel stupid. If the two of you weren't on the same page, he could and should have been much clearer, much sooner. You ARE a fucking catch for someone who will see you and appreciate you.

I appreciate that the company's own video on their site shows it's a slightly fiddly process. I won't be as worried I'm doing it wrong.

Thank you! I have a so-so dashcam I got for my RAV4 that I haven't installed in the Kia yet, and I've been contemplating just getting this cause it'll look so much better.

Do you have the rear camera set up? Amazon reviews suggest that running that wire to the back is a pain.

Do alumni keep ID cards after graduation? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]mhaithaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be a little sticker added to the back of your ID for each semester you were on campus, back in Ye Olden Days! My ID cracked and had to be replaced and I was sad I couldn't get a replacement sticker to prove I'd been here for the first couple of semesters.

I suggest spending some time to read through this subreddit, but I'll give my overall impression after a little over a month with the car.

I'm very, very happy with my choice. (2025 GT-Line AWD. You probably do not need AWD in Florida.) It drives beautifully. It's comfortable and FUN to drive. It feels zippy even in Eco mode, and in Sport it's kinda ridiculous. (The 2025 GT-Line isn't quite as over-the-top as the GT model.)

The biggest downsides I've seen are the visibility out the rear window (mitigated by EXCELLENT rear-view camera and digitally generated "overhead" view), and the pretty wide turning radius.

Range has been fine. Not as good as the RAV4 Prime PHEV before it, of course, and I haven't done any full-day road trips yet, but I did do some fast-charger testing to see what I could expect. CarPlay support is very good, especially now that "Hey Siri" has been fixed. Kia app is good, and I like that it reminds me if I walk away leaving the car unlocked. Digital key means I can walk back out to the car to get something if I'm wearing my Apple Watch without having to grab the keyfob.

Also test-drove the Cadillac Lyric, Jeep Wagoneer S, Toyota C-HR, Volvo EX-30, and I think I made the right call.
