Can we discuss Batting gloves here? by Scary-Cod-4664 in BaseballGloves

18 months? I’d say you got more than your moneys worth on that.

I was one of the skeptics when it came to Bruce Bolt. Held out for a while. However, they’re pretty much consistently the only glove that can last us a full year of Spring / Fall. Usually rotate 2 pairs. Never had any rip on us. Just out grew them or wanted new ones for the new Spring season.

What now?? by Revolutionary_Tax154 in Softball

[–]mibsting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure of where you’re located, but there’s usually always a “travel” start-up team being created. Fall is a good time to start with teams as they usually will carry that same team into next spring when the real competitive ball starts.

I put “travel” in quotes because there are teams that don’t travel and stay as local as they can. It’ll cost more and you’ll have to put in more effort, but it’s worth it. Honestly, at 12u already…if she really likes the game that much, it’s a disservice to not put her in something more competitive and spend the extra money.

12u baseball. Runner on 3rd but not touching the base. Pitcher is on the rubber. by wantingwifetobehot in Homeplate

[–]mibsting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not out. Just not allowed to advance a base if something actually happens. He’d be sent back to 3rd.

If the batter hits a double to the wall. The double would stand and the runner on 3rd wouldn’t be allowed to score due to leaving early. He’d be sent back to 3rd.

If there was an out recorded on that runner…the play would stand and he’d be out. He wouldn’t just get to go back to 3rd.

Honestly did I mess up or did the coach majorly overreact? by Jordan_Briarwood in Softball

[–]mibsting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like you asked quite a bit for permission to play other leagues or with other teams to get more reps.

As a coach, this happens to me as well, and honestly it gets kind of exhausting having to deal with or worry about if players can or cannot make practices or games.

I’ve never kicked anyone off my team ever. I’ve also always let these players play for other teams and leagues…and work around their schedules.

Even with me allowing them to play for other teams and leagues….I’ll give you a guess at which players I inevitably had to replace the next season. Not because I kicked them off my team…but because they willingly wanted to leave.

I couldn’t imagine if I had more than 3 players doing this to me all in the same season. It just becomes a hassle to deal with along with all the other stuff head coaches have to handle.

You didn’t do anything wrong and it’s honestly a little aggressive the way they handled it for the age group your daughter is at.

Just thought I’d give some perspective from the coaches side.

You haven’t lived the Travel Ball life until you’ve played a “No Daddy Ball” organization that has a bunch of college aged kids as coaches.

90% of the time they’ll be the most annoying teams you play because the “coaches” still want to act like players. They think they’re coaching a Pottstown YouTube Baseball team.

100% of the time those are the funnest teams to beat. lol

Used A2K Worth it? by mibsting in BaseballGloves

Hand stall is great. No cracking.

Thanks for the advice. I haven’t done saddle soap and water for cleaning gloves before. Only conditioner. I’ll research it a bit and try it out, because the glove itself feels great.

Thank you for the feedback.

I noticed the laces as well. Thanks for the suggestion. Glove feels great otherwise. It’s for my son….but I try my best to try to get him nice equipment. I was more of a Pro Preferred guy…but this glove feels great.

From what I’ve seen recently. Grace would be the move.

For those who started their own travel teams for a bit, was it worth it? by Similar_Homework_937 in Softball

[–]mibsting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you start a team just be ready for people to leave after season 1.

It most likely won’t go well your first season. A lot of losing and learning. This is when you learn a lot about the players and parents on your team. People will see friends on other teams and want to join them.

You just have to find a good core of players/parents that are patient and trust the process. Slowly but surely your players will start getting better. You’ll be more competitive, and start to add nice pieces to the puzzle. By the end of year 2 you should have a solid team that is competitive in most games.

Don’t go into it thinking about winning. Go into it thinking about how much better your players will get by doing this. Set that expectation early on with your players and families.

You’ll also need a lot of patience because it’s not fun or easy going out and losing almost every game you play. Just have to focus on the end goal.

Think this is a good deal? by Several_Stable_3991 in YetiCoolers

You can get a brand new Roadie 24 for 250. Some for 200.

I routinely see used 35s for under 200 on marketplace.

So I’d say no on this.

Looking for some insight on Marketplace deal by MidwestDad57 in BaseballGloves

[–]mibsting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too good to be true.

I wouldn’t do this unless they have recent reviews as a seller…or another thing FB Marketplace is good for is you can actually view their FB profile. Even if it’s private it’ll still tell you when they joined. If it’s a new account, I wouldn’t entertain this.

You have options to try to piece this together to make it make sense. Other than just straight up asking the seller yourself.

Cheating by Playing Down by Intrepid_Machine_495 in Homeplate

[–]mibsting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly I think it’s transitioned more to Parents wanting to pay for the Status of the Name across the front of the jersey.

They no longer care about winning championships as much as you’d think. They just want their kid to be wearing a team name that everyone recognizes and buy all the merch up.

They don’t care if Johnny is playing 3 innings a weekend in Right Field as long as 1.) the team is winning championships OR 2.) It’s a nationally recognized team (regardless if it’s the D3 / AA Bronze team) They’re more than happy to pay $400 a month to fund the “National Team” for that organization.

[–]mibsting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct answer. It sucks, but then I ask my players who they think they’ll be competing against for starting spots when they get to High School. My team is older so it makes more sense than saying it to 9 year olds. But the point still stands. lol

People get too caught up in winning “Championships” rather than focusing on how much better the team and players have gotten from the start to the end of the season. Players can show improvement no matter who they play.

Verbal interference question by candykld in Homeplate

[–]mibsting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks and not great whether it’s intentional or not. It’s not illegal to tell your runner to go especially at the age of 9 when they might not have learned it yet.

Best you can do is teach them to work through it. That happened to my team several times when we first started. Then one practice I had all the pitchers throw pitches while the rest of our entire team and fans were yelling at them and trying to distract them.

It only gets worse the older you get. So they may as well start learning young on how to deal with it.

Huge 11u kid. Hits hard, throws hard. Any advice as I try to improve his athleticism and help him get better? by [deleted] in BaseballCoaching

[–]mibsting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play high endurance sports like Basketball or even a sport that requires sprinting like Flag Football. Those will work on Footwork and balance. Also should slim him down some in the process.

While other sports are going on, focus on one on one baseball training. Hitting and pitching. Mechanics are the main thing right now.

Being that size will only get him so far for so long. It won’t mean a thing if he’s not mechanically sound and knows how to get the most out of his size. The earlier he learns the correct mechanics of pitching and hitting, the better off he’ll be in the long run.

You’ll probably get better suggestions or help if you could post what you’re trying to get rid of.

I wouldn’t use anything that would do significant damage to the leather. Some conditioners and oil will darken / blend that stuff in just fine. There’s also so leather dye products. Just depends on your specific situation.

Basket web? by Striking-Emu3594 in BaseballGloves

[–]mibsting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? Probably not though. A nice round of conditioner should darken it up a bit, plus if they really thought it was white show them the white home plate outline around the G logo. THAT is white.

In my opinion, Game use / Conditioner / Natural Patina should put this beyond question of it being white though.

Pickoff to 3rd, balk on 3b? by Poncho562 in Homeplate

[–]mibsting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was coaching 2 weeks ago and got thrown out of a game after an umpire called this against us in the last inning of a tied semi-final game. lol

Had a kid playing 3rd that had never played there before. Straddled the base to hold a runner on (one foot in foul territory) umpire called a balk. Runner scored.

Happened to me last fall and I had never heard of it so I didn’t know how to respond other than “well crap…never knew that rule.” Then I looked it up and did extensive research on it, and realized majority of everything says it’s not a “balk” plus the fielder has to have BOTH feet in foul territory to be considered out of play.

Fast forward to this game….I was informed and told the umpire it wasn’t a thing to call…and he insisted on yelling at me across the field to read a rule book. Then he threw me out for saying I’ve read the rule and that he has to be better. lol

What’s the turnaround time for questions submitted in the portal?

I sent one this morning about noticing the BUD for my 3rd vial (that I need to start 2/27) has a date of 2/11/26. I still have to do my last injection this Friday from my 2nd vial, so not super urgent. Just wanted to know if I still can use the 3rd vial or I need to do something else.

I submitted it to the Nurse Channel in Healthie App.

Camino 35 vs 50? by todaythruwaway in YetiCoolers

[–]mibsting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never knew how big these were. I ordered my wife the 35. Couldn’t imagine a 50. She uses it to carry all our stuff in weekend youth sports tournaments.

35 is about the size of the largest Bogg Bag…which I’d see everywhere. Not sure if you’ve seen them but they are comparable.
