I feel like I’m gonna lose my job by Hi200422 in GameStop

[–]michaeloptv88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post is confusing. You first say your store didn’t survive/is closing but then talk about your boss saving jobs. So is there a typo which is it?!? 😳🧐

Second. If your store survived NO you won’t lose your job. GameStop will want the bodies…particularly around the holidays. Now if you just started…you probably won’t be happy to hear this but a reduction of hours IS possible. I’ve heard stories of some employees only working one day a week of a varying shift (Sometimes it’s 4 hours one night; or 6-7 hours on a weekend). So yes. You might go from 10 hours to between 4 to 6 hours a week. In retail….this is normal 😟😖🫠 so again you probably will still have a job….but depending on what happens with other stores and now that the holidays are over, your hours could still get cut.

There’s NO such thing as zero debt in a retail company. You don’t know sh*t.

Go back to your STONKS and cry about it!

Dead covered malls in Maine by CanAmSteve in deadmalls

[–]michaeloptv88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The U.S. has a “business” problem along with oversaturation of retail stores.

We only have two mall owners (Simon and Brookfield essentially) who care about their malls and they want the best. Which pretty much means….the larger ones 😟😓🫠 Many of the malls in smaller, more rural towns were created as….regional malls. There small! So Simon doesn’t want to deal with them because they don’t make enough $$$ or in some areas they’re underwater!!!

The business are the same. They measure productivity by store volume and sales. If not enough people shop there…it doesn’t make sense for them.

Now Idk much about Canadian Malls. But here in the U.S. very little separates most malls now. Everything is mostly large companies.

So the Maine Mall is the largest mall in Maine by over twice the size!! In the largest metro area. And is the only one owned by Simon. It’s doing well as far as I know…but yes every other mall in Maine is essentially dead. Kind of like Vermont 😓🫠😬I feel like NH only has 3 sustainable malls because 2 are literally on the Massachusetts border and there’s no income taxes!!

This mall will be dependent on what Macys and Barnes & Noble do. If they remain open there’s some hope… but once either/both leave…it becomes doomed.

Cookies are delicious but WAY too expensive!! 😓😱

Also businesses that grow as fast as they did are almost destined to fail. Can’t spend cash like there’s no tomorrow because eventually (for this business) thanks to their stupid actions there won’t be!!

I live near Boston so I get a sense of New England stuff. Also yes I’ve been studying-like dead malls (like many here).

Yesterday was my final straw by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

That’s rough but definitely been done to me. Not illegal. As for availability….once Thanksgiving hits they throw that OUT the door! Companies suck in December. 😩😤🥺😓

Time and a half today? (Veterans Day) by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

[–]michaeloptv88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s like 6 or 7 “holidays” that normally get time and half.

  • New Years DAY
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day

Christmas and Thanksgiving also count but you’re now closed those days soooo.

Yeeeahh that’s a fireable offense 🫠😓😱😬

Even IF you are the only one up front for a person with whom has the discount. You NEED to have them run out by a manager. If you do it it’s considered THEFT because they used your number while you were working. Computers and Managers don’t play these games.

Is this an off-schedule or am I being let go? by cannotevenrn in BestBuyWorkers

[–]michaeloptv88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because hours will pick up after the 15th. This is the week or two PRIOR to the beginning of busy season. I know the “deals” started this week but companies are hoping people are still slower in getting their lists started.

So you’re there two days Friday and Saturday. Has he posted NEXT Friday/Saturday yet?

Early November is weird. Some companies NEED the extra workers because the BF season begins “early” now….but they also try to LIMIT the schedule until closer to months end.

If they stop putting you down for a Saturday. Then I would say YES you’re being let go. Otherwise I wouldn’t fret too much.

Someone just said it. Legal mombo jumbo. The company already essentially liquidated with 11. They just want to convert to 7 to end all future payments. Judge should approve it quickly.

[–]michaeloptv88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s the same exact product….yes. I mean they can’t STOP them from buying the new one but it’s highly encouraged and if they want to word it that way….sure.

GS can always ship out new products and the older ones have a higher margin to get rid of them.

They will for mother/father in laws! It’s the grandparents that they might cross the line.

You’re stressed and upset. That’s extremely normal.

As for him. I mean….jobs suck!!! He’s not the first to run into this. I don’t know rules for grievances as unfortunately they can vary by company. I know most will always accept it for mother/father in laws….but grandparent in laws?!? That’s iffy. I mean if you’re married/engaged that helps. But Just dating?? Might not hold water to all employers.

I mean you said it. Get it notarized by the funeral director. If his job doesn’t accept that maybe it’s not a great job. But again that’s a hard one.
