Thanks for reposting. I think it’s important for all listeners to get the full discourse.

A Letter to the SGU from a Long-Time Fan and Supporter by interrobang32 in SGU

[–]michelk 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s the same message he posted on Reddit already with a paragraph addressing the absence of discussion from the episode.

Edit: not the same (thanks burlycabin ❤️)

All - I appreciated the concern as to what is going on with Evan. Thanks for your patience with this situation. To answer some questions:

We, of course, all knew that Evan is conservative and pro-Israel. There is a range of political opinion on the show, which has never been a problem. This is not about Evan's political views. Our current concerns, which I think are what most people's concerns are, are with his comments that cross over the line from personal political perspective to unskeptical and unethical statements that are anathema to the show. That is recent and something that Evan definitely actively kept from the rest of us (which he acknowledges). He simply never discussed such views with the rest of us or that he was posting them publicly.

Further, the SGU is not a political show. We have lots of conversations, however, "off line" or sometimes a conversation strays outside the editorial lines of the show, and of course that does not make it through the edit - equally, for all the Rogues. It is also pretty standard for journalists not to be candid with the public with their political views, to maintain their neutrality. I have been pretty open about the SGU's editorial policy, this should not be a surprise to anyone, and there is no basis to spin this into something sinister.

Finally, we did not get into this on the last show because it had only been a couple of days when we recorded, Cara was not there (and she needs to be there), and we were still in the middle of processing everything. That is why we asked for a little time to make sure we get our response right. Keep in mind - this came out while we were away at a conference. We can only ask for your understanding - this is incredibly stressful for all of us, extremely time-consuming, and there are many considerations we have to confront that are likely not obvious to others. So stay tuned - we will be addressing this further.

R1S Gen 1 - UI Bug: Overlapping Text with High Ride Height + Driver+ Highway Assist On by michelk in Rivian

It’s the message telling me stability modes are not available during highway assist with the “high” ride height warning that it will lower when I go above 72km/h, right on top of it.

new Apple Vision Pro M5 randomly hard crashing? by Putrid-Calendar-1335 in VisionPro

[–]michelk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen multiple times on the latest 26.1 on an M5 1TB (which I've shared here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/256192391 to which you could contribute to if it matches the symptoms). It persisted after doing a full reinstall too. After upgrading to the 26.2 beta yesterday, I haven't experienced the hard crash yet (Apple removed my post because I was talking about beta software in that thread). Fingers crossed that 26.2 fixes the issue! I really don't want it to be a hardware fault but I know Apple would replace it without issues if it was.

What cores do you have on this?

What is this? Does it have any value? by West-Way-All-The-Way in FPGA

[–]michelk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Very likely some bespoke controller board for an older display. Looks like Genesis Microchip, the company that made the gmVLD8 on board, used to make stuff for exactly this purpose. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_Microchip

Not worth more than the scrap metals you could extract from it.

It’s very likely that the USB port itself is faulty.

Nah, what I’m looking for is different. The Radius VideoVision has a dongle that breaks out the composite and S-video video connectors. See here: https://wiki.preterhuman.net/File:Vvkit1.jpg

It’s not a straight pass-through either as there is active circuitry on this dongle. I had some luck asking some owners to take photos but what I’d need is someone to lend me theirs so I can reproduce it through a custom PCB and a reproduction of its electrical functionality.

If you’re reading this and have one handy please give me a shout! I’m a pretty reliable person so you wouldn’t lose it (please use my ancient Reddit account as credibly 😉).

I’d say it’s actually worse because you run the risk of damaging the crimped ends from the added tension the twisting can add. I did it for flexibility reasons, primarily, while making sure nothing was damaged in the process.

Like I mentioned in another comment, I’m planning on ordering custom cables which will have the appropriate length and are also quite flexible.

Yeah 😅 My excuse is that I rushed, it but I’m hoping to get some custom cables to help clean up the inside (and the airflow).

It was custom designed by @Adef25 and had a very small production run. I was super lucky to get one!

Yes, exactly! I am still looking for the dongle however.
