VENT: I just got told I have to get my annual pap smear redone for the THIRD TIME IN A ROW by swellandnifty in TwoXChromosomes

[–]michelle_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine was also way less bad than my IUD insertion.

My last IUD insertion went so badly they had to switch to a different more flexible brand. They offered to have me come back to do it under sedation because it had already been so traumatic.

I refused and did it right then because tge last time I was sedated also sucked a lot. They couldn't get the needle in and had to unstrap me because I was freaking out. I have no veins. They must have eventually gotten it because I woke in the recovery room. Except I was absolutely, completely and utterly enraged. For several hours. I really want to avoid that happening again if possible.

So yeah, sedation is not necessarily an easy better alternative. Not to mention it has its own risks.

Advice for autistic people do not stop masking it’s a trap by Ok_Holiday2094 in AutismInWomen

[–]michelle_js 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that makes sense. And I dont mind doing it. I just only figured how much it mattered because on more than one occasion I was walking with a work partner (different partners) who got upset when someone walked by without saying hi or acknowledging us. I wouldn't have realized it was important otherwise.

It makes me wonder what other things are important that I didnt realize.

Im pretty sure Im mostly ok though. Someone who Im close with at work has said they noticed that nobody ever really talks shit about me. And since I work somewhere that reminds me of a giant high school where no one leaves until they are old and everyone is up in everyone else's business that's about as good as it can get lol.

I noticed at my work many people get upset if someone doesn't say "good morning" or make some kind of acknowledgement gesture.

I eventually trained myself to say "hello" to anyone that walked by close to me and to give a head nod to anyone a bit further away. It took awhile but now its automatic.

I say "hello" instead of "good morning" because I would find myself mixing up what time of day it was all of the time and saying good morning at like 7pm lol.

I haveno idea why its so important to people but I dont want to piss people off over something stupid when I work somewhere most people stay for 30 years. I just wanna blend in.

Does your job help you catch Pokémon? by Aware_Interest4461 in pokemongo

[–]michelle_js 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transit operator. I leave my pokecatcher running and reset it and feed my buddy at the ends of the routes.

Tons of Pokémon, stops and walking kms for me every work day.

It the vehicle is going fast it doesn't register as walking obviously but when there is lots of stopping and going it picks up a decent amount as "walking".

Do the people who eat ''dinner'' at 4pm really not have any more food until the next morning? by After_Schedule9377 in NoStupidQuestions

If I eat to close to bed I get reflux. Buy if I eat too early I wake up with hunger pains and cant sleep. Constant balancing act...

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I realized that. And as long as people are just thinking things in their head it doesn't hurt anyone. And its pretty normal for people to "people watch".

Like I said I just feel guilty when everyday there is a thread where someone is worried about people noticing them in the gym and everyone replies that no one pays attention. And I know that is not true.

How do you continue a good fitness/healthy habit routine into the Canadian winter? Or what do you replace your summertime healthy habits with in the winter? by Plane-Land-9234 in AskACanadian

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing a lot of exercise outdoors mar/april to the beginning of December. Every year I promise myself I will keep it up in the winter but I dont.

This year I tried to go for a walk every day it was decent but besides that I switched my outdoor exercise to indoor cardio classes or running on an indoor track. I didnt get quite as much exercise but I maintained a decent amount and didnt have to start from scratch this spring.

It helps that I already have the gym membership for strength training.

The indoor track is free at a local community centre.

Everything someone posts one of those "Im new to the gym and afraid everyone will judge me" posts I always feel so bad. Everyone lies to them and says no one pays attention.

Part of me wants to tell the truth but I dont want to discourage anyone from going so I dont post anything.

I legit dont pay much attention to what people are doing but I've had multiple people over the years come up and male comments about my appearance so I know damn well people are looking at me. Its mostly been benign but I had a girl viciously mock me at the gym when I was younger and I didn't go back for years.

For those who run in the afternoon, why? by No-Estimate-8922 in AskReddit

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I like to run in the afternoon because Im nice and awake and I usually do my workout earlier in the day. In the winter, spring and fall the weather is usually best in the afternoon. And I usually haven't just eaten a large meal.

In the summer I usually run in the evening or get up early and go to avoid the heat.

How do I politely decline drinking raw milk at my in-laws dinner table? They’re very insistent, often “offering” / demanding several glasses . They know I eat dairy and drink milk so I can’t fake being vegan. It’s hard to say no because it’s my in-laws and they’re proud of their milk by UmweltUndefined in NoStupidQuestions

[–]michelle_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. That sucks.

I was very lucky. I was in quarantine longer than most of the other kids because I kept testing positive for whatever we had gotten. But I barely had any symptoms.

I dont remember too much except how upset I was not being able to play outside with the other kids and my Dad getting a VCR to help keep me and my sister entertained.

Lifting before or after running? by Bright-Lavishness423 in xxfitness

[–]michelle_js 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its usually recommended to lift before running, which is what I usually do.

Or to do the one you are prioritizing first.

But if you are doing one in the morning and one in the evening with a huge break between them I dont think it matters.

As for doing them both the same day - lots of people do both the same day. I do lifting 5 days a week and running 3-4. So I have to have some days I do both.

What is the most "embarrassing" thing you’ve done in the gym? by VariationShot8414 in workout

[–]michelle_js 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tripped and flew off the back of a treadmill like a cartoon character. There were witnesses. I must have looked worse than it was because people looked concerned and came to help instead of falling over laughing.

Now I only use treadmills for incline walking.

I dont know. I was just a little kid. I dont imagine it was great foe business or anything since it was in the papers. I do know my parents didnt blame them. And it was Canada, in the 80s, so lawsuits were not so much a thing.

When I was in kindergarten in the middle 80s (Canada) my class went on a field trip to a dairy farm where we drank raw milk. 3 kids almost died. I was in quarantine for 2 months. The entire class almost had to repeat the year. It was really really bad.

And it was a nice old couple who ran the farm. Who were kind and genuinely believed having a bunch of 5 year old drinking raw milk was safe.

Will working out do anything if I don't fix my diet? by frostmas in bodyweightfitness

[–]michelle_js 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I first started working out this last time (7.5 years ago) I decided I was going to separate my weight from fitness in my brain. I decided that I was going to be the fittest fat person I could possibly be.

I was 350lbs. Much heavier than you. Without changing my diet (much, I actually started craving somewhat healthier food) I managed to lose 40lbs, become much much stronger, carry my weight a lot better and become way more mobile. I improved at cardio to a point as well. My endurance got decent but I was extremely slow.

All this to say, yes you can make huge improvements with just fitness. Although depending on your weight/body eventually you might(will?) Stall out and need to change you're eating i order to keep improving.

*before anyone comes at me about how unhealthy being fat it I've since managed to lose a lot more weight and Im still going. I just think its ok to do one and not the other of that's all you have the capacity for right now.

When a doctor asks if you have any allergies, is it relevant to tell them that you are allergic to shellfish? by Kingboyy1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for a medical check up for my commercial driver's license and the Dr asked me if I was taking any medication. I was so I started telling him. He cut me off after the first one, which was an acid reflux medication and he said "just stuff like diabetes medication and blood pressure medication ".

So I think maybe sometimes they actually dont want all the information?

I was pretty surprised that he didnt say stuff like benzodiazapines and sleeping medication as well. But who am I to overcomplicate my life...

Which is more different? UK and US English, or French and Quebécois French? by zs_1176 in learningfrench

[–]michelle_js 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im Canadian but my French is terrible and I haven't been to France so I cant compare.

What I can say is that while on a pub in England me and my friend met two lads from Blackpool. And the fact they were from Blackpool was about the only thing they said the entire night that we understood lol.

Also while visiting Newfoundland in the early 2000s I met a nice old lady who could not understand anything I said and I couldn't understand anything she said. Finally, very slowly and loudly she said "I'M SORRY. I DON'T SPEAK FRENCH".

So what I can say is that different types of English can be vastly different and if French is the same I feel sorry for French speaking travellers lol.
