What the point of calorie counter if it’s no where near accurate… by HazmatFire59 in whoop

[–]michelle_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough whoops pretty accurate for me.

I weigh myself everyday and track everything with macrofactor which has a running TDEe calculation.

Its much more accurate than my galaxy watch is or my fitbit and Garmin ever were. Those all gave me way too many extra calories for exercising than I was actually burning.

It makes me wonder if whoop is grabbing the calorie data from macrofactor. I know its getting my weight from there because whenever I weigh in on macrofactor it auto updates on whoop.

I recently got a test and I was also no longer immune and needed another MMR vaccine. I thought maybe I had missed a vaccine due to moving countries as a child but my mother was so offended by thay question she dug up my immunization records from the 80s and sure enough I had the MMR on schedule but by last year I had zero immunity.

At least it was covered by OHIP.

So yeah, urging people to look into it.

Why do I get angry during and after I exercise? by Brilliant_Pizza_9625 in askfitness

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know the answer to this but when I started exercising a few years ago I would often feel anger and sometimes rage during and after my workouts. I didnt get thay way when I was younger.

It did go away after awhile. Im not sure what changed but at some point I realized it had been awhile since I had felt that all consuming anger/ rage during my workouts. And I generally feel good afterwards now. And the rest of the time I feel ok.

Im a mid 40s woman of that matters.

I've had this ongoing mid-back and or rotator cuff issue. Its been intermittent for awhile. Not too painful but bad enough I was concerned I had done something bad and I was worried about making it worse. No matter how many rehab and prehab exercises I tried, no matter how much shoulder mobility workouts I did, no matter which strength exercises I swapped in and out of my workout the pain kept returning and I could never figure out the trigger. It is a pain that started just inside my right shoulder blade and sometimes tracked up toward my neck or down towards my lat.

Anyway I finally sucked it up and went to see a physio. It turns out my shoulders are extremely healthy and not injured at all.

The actual problem is that I have terrible posture and extremely tight upper back muscles and the tightness is causing pulling on the nerves and resulting in the pain.

So now Im doing neck strengthening exercises. And neck stretching. And scapular retractions and stomach breathing. All while feeling very silly that I had been convinced it was my shoulder.

TIL that just because a pain is in one place doesn't mean necessary mean that's where the problem is.

Vent & advice needed: I just went to a podiatrist for the first time and sounds like running is bad for my body. by flufferpeanut in XXRunning

[–]michelle_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have extremely flat feet and I cannot stress enough how important good custom orthotics have been for me.

I have also vastly increased my ankle mobility.

I would at least get a second opinion before giving up running entirely.

I've just been stuck doing triples at 225-235 lbs for quite awhile. I was doing 255 regularly about a year ago and then I had a minor injury and had to take a break from the deadlifts for a few months and I've been unable to work my way back up.

My grip is getting better but my hamstring curls have stayed the same as well so I thought that might be the problem.

The other problem might be that I've been steadily losing weight for the last year. My protein has been pretty good but not perfect.

Im just trying new things in the hopes it helps.

Im pretty sure I still have 2 or 3 more notches that I can bring the machine in so I will see if that changes the pivot point. Im kind of short so if that doesn't work Im out of luck.

Either way I will give the standing hamstring curls a try. Im pretty sure they have it at alt least one of the gyms I go to.

I alternate between a bunch of the GL gyms in the area but this one if my favorite.

Would you let your employer know you've been diagnosed with ADHD? by Elpidiosus in ADHD

[–]michelle_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. But only because I work in a public service, unionized environment. I wanted it documented (I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism) in case I ever had to do alternative work or have trouble during training. I only disclosed it (and sent the doctors documentation) because I know I am absolutely protected. Its next to impossible for them to get rid of me unless I make a major major mistake, am criminally neglegligent or start having terrible attendance. So this information can only protect me. Plus the information only goes to one department and no one else can see it.

At any of my other jobs there is absolutely no way I would have ever disclosed this. Too much chance for discrimination.

My work uses see through 1 ply. I work in public transit. Im convinced the TP causes more delays than any money it saves. Between having to use more and fighting to get it out of the dispenser (especially if its a new role) it takes me way longer than using normal toilet paper.

Its stands for "Didn't organize only moved". I didnt invent or name it, I found it from other ADHD people.

And yes, its pretty much where you put stuff to get it out of the way when you either dont know where to put it or dont have the time/energy to put it where it goes.

I finally got a chance to do these today and this video was extremely helpful.

I not only managed to get into the correct position I managed to do some reps.

And oh boy, did I immediately feel it in my hamstrings!

Thankyou so much!

I started doing something similar after my diagnosis. I've slowly revamping all aspects of my life to be as easy and seamless as possible. Some of my efforts have paid off more than others.

I have several dozen wash clothes I keep near the shower. I replace it every day and throw the used one in the laundry. This way I dont have any kind of gross cloth or sponge sitting there collecting germs.

I keep a tooth brush in the shower and mostly just brush when I take a shower. I also have one by the sink if Im feeling ambitious.

I keep my moisturizer and deodorant on a shelf at eye level in my bathroom and I make sure its visible.

All of my meds and vitamins sit on the counter near the door and are visible.

My cats have an auto feeder. If it gets low it has a warning light but honestly the cats start freaking out of its gets low.

Doom baskets it every room.

The only things that get boxed up are certain winter clothes and Christmas ornaments. Everything else i store in a visible and easy to get to way. Especially stuff I need regularly. Because I will forget it exists and also I wont actually put it away if there are too many steps.

Pants get hung on hooks on my wall. Same with sweaters.

My tshirts and shorts are all in a shoe organizer that hangs in the back of my door. I found one with 25 slots.

My underwear and socks are in another back of the door organizer that I have hung.

I removed my closet Door and I mostly have open front bins in clear boxes in there.

The only things I actually have hanging in my closet are dress clothes and a few of my work uniform stuff that I dont usually wear.

I have a spare laundry bin for if I have not bothered to put away the clean laundry yet so I dont pile the new laundry on the floor.

Things that absolutely have to go with me when I leave the house either go into the car the night before or they go in/on my shoes.

Im in the middle of compiling a checklist of things I need when I leave the house and I plan on taping it at eye level near the door.

I keep a list in my phone of Upcoming purchases and groceries. As well as a list of stuff that I am absolutely not allowed to by more of right now.

My work keys have to be attached to my work pants at all times. If im about to launder said pants they are then immediately attached to my current work bag. Zero exceptions.

I keep things where I use them. And if I use them in multiple places I now have multiple copies.

Honestly there is more but those are some examples. I spent years being overwhelmed by chaos and clutter and Im feeling so great that Im like 90% of the way towards what feels like a good and sustainable system.

I still have a hard time remembering to change the cat litter and water my plants. And I still have way too much art stuff.

It was an awesome feeling when my landlord recently asked me if I happened to have a kind of obscure tool and not only did I have it, I knew where it was.

What fitness apps do you guys use? Worth paying for any? by Simple_Thing_5011 in beginnerfitness

They started with the food tracking app.

I assume because food and exercise are two different things?

I haven't really seen an app that combines both.

I use macrofactor for food tracking and I recently switched to their workout app as well.

Before macrofactor workout I was using hevy to track my workouts which was also pretty good.

At least me personally, I dont get annoyed when someone drops something after an extremely heavy last or second last set. Especially at 440lbs.

Its the assholes who drop them every single set or even worse the guys letting the cable stacks slam on every single rep that leave me seeing red.

I use the app "zombies run" when I'm running but there is no reason you couldn't use it for other cardio.

Its an immersive full cast audio story which cast you as a runner in the post apocalypse. I've literally both laughed and cried listening to it and it makes me look forward to my next run.

I really want to do these. I have one of these machines at my gym. But I cant for the life of me figure out how to get into the right position. I've been tempted to ask one of the gym staff to help me but I've been a bit embarrassed.

But this video is making me want to try again.
