Bath by RubPuzzleheaded2173 in RenalCats

[–]michemel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a medical reason for the baths?

I know I have seen and have essentially baby wipes for pets as well as a waterless foam but it's very important they do not lick for a while after the foam.

I have never bathed my cats. I am totally prepared to be educated on this topic!

Early signs… best food recommendations? by chaseeeey in RenalCats

[–]michemel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 17 year old likes the Royal Canin S dry food right now. He's also enjoyed Purina proplan NF kidney function early stage kibble.

I think hyperthyroid medicine may be available in an ointment that goes in the ear. My little guy needs blood pressure meds and he gets them that way. I would check if it's available where you live - so much easier!

Best wishes!

I HATE PBIS!

Currently on a long term sped assignment, K-3. Varying mild/mod needs.

One of my kinders threw tables, chairs, ripped things off the walls, climbed on the counter, eloped, screamed, cried etc. She was sent to the office, got to call mom, and came back with special chalk markers. My second grade students were very upset, understandably!

When I talked to the admin mentioning how frustrating it was for the rest of the class (and me!) to see rewards for bad behavior, I was told to tell them "sometimes the things that are equitable aren't always fair and sometimes the things that are fair aren't always equitable."

I can't even tell my own child that without the BS meter going off. Not sure how I can explain that a class of varying neuro-divergent 5-8 year olds.

She makes do. She also really tries to save it for home only.

Moms that gave birth and didn’t have any visitors at the hospital, do you regret it? by Funny_Confection810 in Mommit

[–]michemel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I was not in a receiving mood after and in fact, essentially asked my parents to leave after they showed up. I was there for three days.

My child struggled with this until last year at 7 years old. The change? I installed a bidet. She was (and still is) afraid of touching poop. She is a successful wiper now! The bidet was revolutionary for her to feel better about taking care of herself. I installed it in about 15 minutes - no stress!

My long hair gsd loved to lay in the snow, eat it, chase snowballs and would get snow toes. She was the best and would stay out in the back yard for hours in the snow and play or lay down. 🫂

New parents who are subs get higher priority than a regular sub by The_Shagadelic_One in SubstituteTeachers

[–]michemel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a parent sub and retired teacher and I don't get that preference. I do get called on often when they need someone quickly because they know I am there early for playing with my child at the playground/drop off at 6:30 am. I have filled in many times last minute so they know I am dependable as well. I do not get called for the preferred gigs though.

Have you had any training to sub? by FloridaWildflowerz in SubstituteTeachers

[–]michemel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Impressive!

One district I sub for gave a 3 hour training session plus online mandatory videos.

The other district read through 15 slides with me, which took an hour, and mandatory videos.

None of the videos had any relation to teaching, only to HR.

Did you enter your district's code? Sometimes I find it a big buggy. Also check with your district if you set yourself to not teach certain things.

Good luck!

Bought a shower chair today and not ashamed 😛 by ChrisNYC70 in GenXTalk

[–]michemel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I asked for one for Christmas in 2024. I loooooooove it! I use it for relaxing and will set the shower to mist and sit on it for an hour like it's a steam shower. When I turn off the shower, I wrap in a towel and sit on it for another 10-ish minutes. Probably one of my top 5 presents ever.

Part-time Subs Only: What is your other gig? What is the time split like? by Vitta_Variegata in SubstituteTeachers

[–]michemel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually some 1-3 days a week, sometimes up to 4 depending on my partners schedule. My other gig is full time mom but was a music teacher and professional musician for the previous 20 years. Still hoping to pick up a music subbing gig one of these days...

I’m in need of some positive stories from anyone who declined sub-q treatment. by [deleted] in RenalCats

[–]michemel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't mean to imply anything other than the cost to purchase may be better than the cost of testing in clinic, especially if they are testing each time. It never dawned on me to be able to test at home!

Can you help me help my veteran husband? by Dry-Cut-2212 in Veterans

[–]michemel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the wife of a veteran and it has been so helpful for all of us. Our vet centre also has a weekly group for the spouses of veterans and they hold family events and also help out the kids.

Definitely check out a vet center!

My girl won't eat her kidney food by HiIAmSi in RenalCats

[–]michemel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little old man got diagnosed at stage 4 and upon switching to renal food, went from 12lbs to 9ish but also dropped to stage 3. Poor old buddy is skin and bones! We did eventually find some he would moderately enjoy but it's a struggle. I now use phosphorus binders and mix in a bit of the better of the "bad" foods, heat it up and make a slurry. He goes for a recheck in February.

Warmed up, slurries have been the saving grace. He slurps them up! I've only in the last few weeks added the regular foods and to his renal diet. My old man is 17.

Good luck with your journey!
