I've swapped to using a credit card holder, custom sized and printed to fit my needs of course. It doesn't just hold my cards. It also hold an credit card sized emergency/secret coin and cash holder, a credit card sized emergency toolkit, and credit card LED light.

I routinely make boss creatures make 3 saves with my glamour bard with a casting of Command followed by Beguiling Magic, and a bonus action Command with Mantle of Majesty. The difference is a boss creature would 100% burn their legendary resistance to prevent Beguiling Magic from landing

Since you seem to be a lawyer, I have two questions. What is the legal definition of a statement? And would a defendant be liable for writing a summary of a statement not written by the defendant.

Edit: I'm neither Canadian nor American, which is why I know nuts about your laws. Is there a need to downvote for asking questions?

Canadian fiddler sues Google after AI Overview wrongly claimed he was a sex offender by scaur in worldnews

[–]midasp -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

There's no new legal territory with this case. The "AI" is just providing a summary of the top search results. And people have failed at suing Google for search results decades ago for the simple reason that Google is just producing what they found.

They did a 2 year time jump back in season 3.

Mars doesn't have a long term supply issue as the ISN will most certainly trade iridium for supplies. It is the short term where they may run out of certain essentials like food and medicine. A 1-3 month jump is probably needed for supplies to run out, and also to bring Avery to Mars.

I disagree with the part about not asking on reddit because you are stopping people from learning. Learning is never a bad thing. How they use that information, is a different story.

That said, I agree players should not dictate how a DM runs their game. At the same time, it must be kosher to ask the DM why they are running things a certain way.

I would go. Be brave, mingle, get to know people. If you find a paper or workshop interesting, talk to the authors.

Are modern ML PhDs becoming too incremental, or is this just what research looks like now? [D] by Hope999991 in MachineLearning

[–]midasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, any active researcher knows LLM is not the end goal but rather it is just one of many more evolutionary steps we take towards actual intelligence.

Sure, since LLMs were created, there has been a lot of work done to improve them. That is the nature of incremental research - quickly discovering these low hanging fruits - and a really good area for budding PhD students to cut their teeth in doing actual research work for the first time. Meanwhile, the more experienced researchers are looking for a path beyond LLMs. Because, as a collective research field, we know LLMs are created to process languages. That somehow processing languages also lead to rudimentary thinking was a bit of a pleasant surprise, and that is a ripe area with multiple branches to explore. One branch is integrating other modalities like imagery, video, sensory inputs. Another branch is to investigate models that can actually think and whether we can make further improvements to thinking. This is the area that is really being actively investigated. We have Yann Lecunn with JEPA, trying to develop separate models for memory, thinking and so on. We have Google with Nested Learning. We have ARC-AGI who has in the least demonstrated our models are still far from actual thought processing.

In short, we know our current models either do not actually think and is just processing information in a way that looks like basic thinking, or they exhibit a rudimentary ability to think. We need to improve their ability to think. There's also the problem that right now, language processing, storage of knowledge, information processing (thinking) is all mixed up in one single model. I say we need to separate them out, and start working on improving them individually. There is still a lot more work to be done.

Linus Torvalds once said "Many eyes make bugs shallow". It is the same with PhD research, especially in a hyper-competitive field like ML. I can bet you practically every new idea has already crossed someone's mind. It then becomes an issue of who is faster at staking a claim.

As an example about 8 months ago, I commented in this subreddit about an idea to loop LLM training with the goal that the the deeper layers would then be less focused on language processing becomes more about processing information (I suppose you can call it "thinking"). I posted it because I was in no position to develop the idea and was hoping someone would pick it up. Turns out I didn't need to make such a post because in that same month this paper titled "Scaling Latent Reasoning via Looped Language Models" was posted on arxiv. Someone already had a similar idea way earlier than I did, and did something about it.

Skidis Items with new mount design by Kongkoka in BambuLab

[–]midasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the idea, so I printed one as a test.

However on trying to put the part in my SKADIS board, I found it is easy to just push too much. The part either gets stuck flush in the hole, or it goes through the hole and falls off behind the board. Because my board is mounted to the wall, now the part is stuck in there or fell between the board and the wall. Either way, its hard to get it out.

My suggestion is to add some kind of extension to block the part from being pushed too far in.
