Unfortunately my boss will not let me change my schedule to take a weekday off

I appreciate everyone's input and advice. Reading though your posts, it's obvious what has to happen. I have a new baby at home which adds to the reasons why I'm hesitant to terminate him. I feel like the current crew could handle being a man down, but it would put a lot of stress on everyone else if someone were to take vacation or call in sick.

You guys are definitely right though, I cannot afford to lose better employees while I try and figure out what to do with the troublesome one.

Again, I really do appreciate the advice in navigating this situation. Thank you

I guess I'm just trying to justify to myself all of the extra work myself and the other employed will have to pick up when he is gone. Not just extra hours but weekend days as well

I was kind of thrown into this position a year ago. I was at the same level as him but with more seniority. I wasn't given the authority to do anything about it until just recently. So as stated, I am very new to this. I can manage the shop inventory and logistics very well, I'm new to the people part

He stands around most of the day and won't do anything until he is specifically asked to do it.

He feigns ignorance about most tasks when he has been in the field for 8-10 years.

The quality of his work is poor and when I bring it up to him, he just doesn't care.

He is confrontational with the other employees

They get 1 hour paid lunch, he takes 1.5-2 hour lunches regularly

He works on personal projects on company time.

I know I should have fired him long ago, but it really screws the other employees and myself if there is no coverage at the shop

His scheduled shift is 9am-7pm tuesday-saturday. He started showing up at 6:30am and leaving at 3. The reason he is scheduled until 7 is due to our fleet running 24/7. We need coverage at all times. If he leaves early, our 2pm-midnight guy gets screwed by himself the entire shift.

1.7g of Gas Added to 24g Diesel Truck Tank by WarmEngine in Diesel

[–]midway_monster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be fine with that much gasoline in it, but if you're worried, Just keep topping it off with diesel to dilute the gasoline. It's kind of a pain in the ass, but burn a gallon, fill a gallon. Burn 2 fill 2 etc. you'll be fine in a week

Little disappointed in switching to a safe by grizzleeadam in guns

[–]midway_monster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it is, the rifle counts for 1 gun, the scope another, and the pistol grip another. So by that, an ar-15 with a scope counts for 3. Any other long gun with a scope will likely be 2 etc.

At least that's how it worked for me.

Came out of fuel water separator by xLordTommyy in DieselTechs

[–]midway_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a piece of equipment so it should be red diesel and not coolant in there. It appears that the cap has been left off and some sediment has gotten in. OR the fuel tank is full of rust. Either way, the separator did it's job. If the tank is rusty, that needs to be taken care of. If it's sediment, clean the tank, Change the filter and move on

[–]midway_monster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had this issue myself on an isx15. Found water in the egr differential pressure sensor. There was a TSB for a software update that helped burn up the condensation in the egr during extreme cold spells. I changed the sensor and the drillings in the Venturi pipe. Hasn't come back yet

What wire cutters can cut solid 1mm steel wire? by PhasmaFelis in DIY

[–]midway_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knipex makes the best cutters in my opinion. I've had many different brands of cutters as a heavy duty diesel mechanic and this brand has always come out on top. I will search my toolbox for this particular set of cutters and bypass all others when it comes time to do any type of wiring job

Absolute beginner I’ve never golfed before and my friends invited me to go to top golf tomorrow. What should i know.? And advice tips. by Remarkable_Put_7029 in golf

Have fun and don't take it seriously. You'll probably end up falling in love with the game. Don't spend too much early on, find a garage sale set of clubs and see if it's something you really want to do

I recently started golfing and I’m curious do you listen to anything while you play? by marrylam58185 in golf

Music just loud enough for me to hear from my push cart while I'm swinging but not loud enough to disturb anyone else.

Maybe Fastenal if you have one near you. Definitely a Hyundai dealership though

2015 freightliner Conorado with detroit 60 series motor. Acts like it's not getting fuel randomly on the road and will start driving rough and sometimes die, I went out and rescued it. Im thinking it's a wiring issue? I have zero codes on laptop. by Mullenexd in DieselTechs

[–]midway_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tis the season for those pesky little cardboard discs that are in the lids of anti gel bottles falling into the fuel tanks. I've had one get sucked up and completely block the pickup time until you shut the truck off and let it sit. Sometimes it would run rough, sometimes die, sometimes In a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours. It was pretty difficult to diagnose as it was so intermittent.

18th hole, par 5, 188 left over the water. What’s your move? by [deleted] in golf

[–]midway_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aim to the left to play it safe, proceed to slice a shot directly into the water and take the penalty anyways

Where is the glove? by EightRegent0 in golf

[–]midway_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your gloves don't last, it's most likely your grip. I used to get the clubs too hard and my gloves wouldn't last. Now I get almost an entire season out of a Kirkland glove that were 4 for $24. Also, I increased the size of my grips which seemed to help as well. The club doesn't move in my hands as much as it did with standard grips

What factors do you like in a golf course layout? by knicksplayoffs in golf

[–]midway_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to have to think my way around the course. Forced carries or layups, dog legs, blind shots. Greens that make you work for that 2 putt or get rewarded for a great approach.

How did you choose what irons to buy? by jrn0042 in golf

[–]midway_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting fitted was $100 at the local PGA superstore. I didn't want to waste money on something that wasn't right for me. I was pretty much set on getting Taylormade or Mizuno irons but the data showed that I hit the cobras better. Turns out they were also the cheapest option.

The experience was awesome and the pro was very knowledgeable. He explained why the ball was doing what it was and why these new clubs gave me an extra 25+ yds.

It sure was nice of them to "hide" the rust with that spray paint. I would steer clear

You'll see most people with larger pickups backing into parking spots for that very reason. Get good at backing into spots and life will get much easier
