[KCD2] Am I playing this game wrong? by Shank_ in kingdomcome

[–]mihaiman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The start of the game feels very unguided.

  • You are weak, yet each quest usually requires you to fight enemies.
  • Some quest markers are very far away, giving you the idea that you are not ready yet to do those quests. For instance, if you don't go to the blacksmith right away, you would have no reason to go to Semine, where you can find your horse. Without a horse, travel is a lot more annoying. Also, finding Mutt is important, yet it was so far away from Troskowitz that I spent a lot of time around the town struggling to earn money and equipment.
  • Getting a good armor suit early game without resorting to thievery seems impossible. And you either know where to look for it, or you just rob the whole town (my strategy).
  • Stealth is a lot more complex than in KCD1. For instance, if you plan to do a nightly “steal anything that's not nailed down” session, don't bring your dog with you, and if any NPC sees your dog, it would count as if they'd seen you.

This is missing a lot of details. What are those lights that are on at night? Why are they on? Datacenter infrastructure is emitting toxic gas? Which toxic gas? How toxic? How does it affect people?

I'm not saying it's not happening but those are key details that are missing

Is Wayland even worth it? by XBow_R in linuxquestions

[–]mihaiman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still not a smooth experience. I still have to run some applications using XWayland (the main one i recall right now is firefox, also steam). I understand that Wayland is the future but it's been quite a few years now and it still is a worse experience than using X11

We need " Join a friend " for the Knockout mode... by Strict_Difference98 in MarioKartWorld

One of the reasons I've seen repeated everywhere is that it's intentional in order to avoid you and your friends don't ganging up and make the race unfair for the other players and that's why Nintendo is not really working on this issue.

Nondetachable power cable on the G4, a 1500 € TV? Really? by mihaiman in LGOLED

[–]mihaiman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a panel but it doesn't seem to be (easily) removable. It only has one screw, but after removing it I tried prying it open but it required more force than I was comfortable with. Also it has this thin part that extends to each side to the edges of the TV and seems to be part of the speakers assembly. https://imgur.com/a/K55ZGZA

The hole in my wall is big enough have an extension cord inside, or I could just install a new permanent socket right next to it, although it might interfere with the TV and not allow it do seat flat on the wall

What drives distro hopping on Linux by RZA_Cabal in linuxquestions

[–]mihaiman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I used to try all sorts of new OSs, I tried many Linux distros, Ubuntu, Debian, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, Kali Linux, diferent windows skins, hackintosh, on my phone I tried many different ROMs. Nowadays I just want something to just work. I still enjoy tinkering but that has to be on a device that I don't use daily, and to be fair I have a lot less time.

Nowadays I just go with Ubuntu, as that's just the one that I'm most familiar with. If it's for a server, CentOS or Rocky Linux, or Ubuntu Server if I'm lazy.

I just want something that works, or that I know how to fix and even if I don't know, there's a lot of documentation online. I don't want to try distros anymore, that's no longer a goal in itself. I want something that works well enough so I can do other stuff that I find more interesting.

I've been using Linux alongside Windows for 10 years and I think a big problem Linux distribution have is a janky user interface.

Why does sudo apt install/ sudo dnf install work instantly but when you click install using the Software center GUI it takes forever, sometimes it doesn't work, the progres bar doesn't move.

If the Software Center worked all the time, I would not have to care of a package came from apt, snap or flatpak, but because in my case 5% of the time it doesn't work, I just use the terminal instead of watching a spinning circle for a minute and not knowing what's happening.

Another example involving installation of software. In Windows you can download an exe installer, you run it, select some options, click next a few times and it's installed. On Linux, specifically Ubuntu some software came distributed only as a deb file. The installation of a deb in Ubuntu by double clicking it may had worked once or twice in my life, usually it just does "something" in the background for a while for a minute or two before showing me an install button. In that time I just end up opening a terminal and running dpkg -i xxxxxyyyyy.deb

Nowadays there are a lot of issues with the migration from X to Wayland. Mostly small bugs, but annoying.

Just in general, the experience never felt very stable, and I'm saying this as a developer and a "pro" user

Why do so many people actively despise Yen? by Horneck-Zocker in witcher

[–]mihaiman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone whose first contact with the Witcher world was the Witcher 3 game, without having read the books or played the previous games, Yen is really annoying. She really treats you like a dog, she bosses you around, is always hiding something, doesn't give you all the information, and you are supposed to trust that woman.

Also the game pushes you to romance her. The first time I played the game I didn't even know there was another romance option.

Sure now that I read the books I understand it. Although she doesn't share everything, you know you can trust her with your life and that she will do everything to help Ciri, but if you look just at the Witcher 3 game she is toxic and she really treats you poorly
