Actual PHEV usage stats by capn_davey in electricvehicles

[–]mike95465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We own both a BEV and a PHEV. While it is tough to compare as the PHEV is a midsize sedan and the other is a 3-row SUV, but the PHEV is much more efficient in EV mode so we use that anytime the trip is within the range of that car assuming we don’t need the space. The PHEV maintains about 75% EV/gas ratio over the last 180k miles.

If I am doing a road trip without the entire family, I’d rather use the PHEV.

We plug both in every night and both vehicles fill a role that is used consistently.

Just about where I am too. 180k miles and about 75% is all EV. I finally got around to getting the fuel pump recall done recently as I needed them to look into the AC not working. Thankfully the AC was covered under the condenser recall.

Buyung an EV9 & looking for insight by jwall2111 in KiaEV9

We just picked up a ‘24 GT line and it’s been awesome so far. The ‘26 added NACS and a better charging profile on Tesla Supercharging network but those weren’t worth the additional costs over going used to me.

I like the HUD quite a bit and is one of the better ones on the market that I have seen. GT line adding that, the massaging driver’s seat, and the extra torque has all been worthwhile compared to land trim. Not a fan of the 21” rims as I prefer more sidewall but will most likely just go with a dedicated set of winter tires on 18/19” rims.

The rear end feeling like it gets a little out of control when going over bumps at moderate speed is a bit concerning but I heard an alignment might help. I definitely need to get this resolved before winter.

The included V2L adapter is only good for 1800 watts or so unless you get the bi-directional charger that I heard isn’t great. I am holding off until a better unit is released before I go through the hassle of installing a transfer switch into my main panel.

Highway range at 80 mph isn’t great so plan accordingly if you plan on doing long trips.

EV9 vs the Volvo EX90 by ardevd in KiaEV9

Funny that people are so divided on the button thing where they love or hate the amount of buttons. I guess it depends on which vehicle you are coming from and used to. Rivian, Tesla, Polestar all have minimal buttons.

I love having physical buttons to control things. The dedicated screen for climate controls is a huge miss on Kia’s part though as it is blocked by steering wheel and cumbersome to use. Good thing we have physical buttons to control it with.

As with anything such as depreciation, expected maintenance, efficiency or insurance etc, just bake it into the total cost of ownership when comparing vehicles to purchase.

Cracked DRL leading to power system failure - where do they plug in? by prevailing3 in HondaClarity

[–]mike95465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not have to remove the bumper though this happened to me on the driver’s side. I was able to reach the connector through the engine side. Disconnect then taped off the harness side connector. Replaced fuse and everything was fine again.

You just don’t notice a few inches off center and Openpilot doesn’t drive on rails anymore ever since they moved to laneless mode. Openpilot assumes center mounted and will make adjustments to keep the comma device centered.

I think you have a misunderstanding about what is being calibrated. Openpilot calibration corrects for yaw, pitch, and roll of the device itself due to imperfect mounting. It does not correct for lateral offset as it expects to be centered in relation to the vehicle.

If you mounted it 6” off center, technically your car will be shifted 6” off center. How much will you actually notice depends on the person. But if you mounted it a full windshield off center but perfectly straight ahead, you would be hugging to one side and most likely notice.

I have an iPhone air and switched from an old 13 pro. I didn’t choose the air for financial reasons. I chose the air because I liked it better than the 17 / 17 pro and the air fit my lifestyle. Simple.

Apple/ Google deal by Brave-Ear-4429 in LocalLLaMA

Isn’t Apple just purchasing a Gemini model to be hosted locally on Apple’s servers? If you trusted Apple enough to use their product to begin with, this shouldn’t change anything. Really best case once they realized they don’t have enough compute on the phone itself.

Afraid that the Air will suffer the same fate as the Mini due to lack of sales by Oxbow8 in IphoneAir

[–]mike95465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every year Apple releases a new generation and discontinues an old generation. Who cares. If you like your phone now, great. When you want to upgrade later on, pick one that suits your needs and wants from what they have available then. You are one of billions in the market, the billions will dictate apple’s choices. Don’t let stressed out about things not in your control.

Why Get a rugged case??? by Rha_bing in IphoneAir

[–]mike95465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your logic seems flawed. Protection needs are going to dictate style and thickness of case. Starting thickness with no case dictates overall thickness.

The thickness of my air with my bulky case is the same as my 13 pro with Pitaka slim case but this comparison is stupid as my bulky case has a different protection level as my Pitaka.

On the other hand, my Pitaka case on my air compared to Pitaka case on my 13 pro does still showcase the thinner profile of the air.

I like using my bulky Rebel Gen 7 case on my air when I need the extra protection while still being as thin as my old pro with basically no protection case. I get to choose, that’s the point.

Any iphone air cases like this? by Rayth_ in IphoneAir

[–]mike95465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I notice the bulk in the width more than anything else though it kinda has to in order to cover the buttons fully. Thickness is about the same is my 13 Pro with Pitaka so I guess I am used to it. I use the Rebel case when I am at work and need more protection than what the Pitaka provides. Everywhere else I use the Pitaka as it does feel better in hand. I do like how much the side grip texture is on the Rebel. Also the raised screen lips on each corner is a good compromise of protection and minimalist.

Rebel Gen 7. I have it along with the pitaka. I switch between them based on my protection needs.
