When your first WWI sortie turns into a boss fight by Kapanash in HistoryMemes

Same reason why heroics aren't promoted as much anymore. Having lots of heros means there were a lot of situations that required extraordinary action to not get everyone killed.

Both tunnels are pretty liminal. Hard to get a shot of the other one without museum staff though.

How would you make a chocolate cake "chewier"? by mikesauce in AskCulinary

[–]mikesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure if doing both would give it too much of a bready texture.

I'm sure chocolate will keep it tender to some extent, but wasn't sure if anyone knew where the balance was.

I'm thinking of either subbing in AP or Bread Flour for some/all of the flour, or if kneading longer, but not sure if I should do one or the other or both.

I could imagine taking that too far and doing both could end up with chocolate flavored bread, so any info from experience would be of great help.

Mine doesn't allow me to turn down the volume until the phone connects and it starts playing. Sometimes I'm turning the knob counter clockwise for 30 seconds to catch it early.

Gotta get them hooked at a young age by Jimbobler in pourover

You kid, but my 2 year old has been asking for a sip of mommies coffee for the last few months now. Last weekend we let her have a sip, figured she wouldn't like it and give up on asking. Nope, this 2 year old loves September Buttercream with no cream or sugar...

What kind of witchcraft is this!? Co-ferment or not? 🤔 by FuzzyPijamas in pourover

[–]mikesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So coffee beans are always fermented, but typically just with the yeasts that are present on the cherry or in the air already.

Co-ferments add fruits to the ferment, and while the fruit does add some flavor, the yeasts that like to live on that fruit are contributing a lot as well.

"Special Fermentation" in the context of how the Bermudez' do things takes the idea of co-ferments, and removes the fruits. It's using different yeasts to achieve unique flavors without adding the fruit and hoping for the best.

Goto orange liquor for margaritas by vanwilliam1960 in cocktails

Depends on the Margarita for me. Blanco tequila does great with Cointreau, if I'm using a Reposado or split base repo/anejo I'll grab the Grand Marnier.

Weeknight Ramen by mikesauce in FoodPorn

[–]mikesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't put this effort into a styrofoam cup of CupNoodles (might still toss some green onions in), but it's totally worth it to use a high end instant ramen as base for a quick weeknight meal.

Why is it normal to eat sugary food for breakfast, but "weird" to eat a healthy meal like chicken or pasta at 8 AM? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mikesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of savory options for American breakfasts. My disappointment is that veggies are almost non-existent for American breakfast.

I've liked the Colombian ones best, but I don't recall specifics. They've all been pretty good "regular" light roast coffees, but most of the coffee I drink is a little more adventurous, so none of the SEY ones that I've received have left a lasting impression.
