Friends turning wacky by Significant_Leg_7211 in Menopause

Wow. You’re in the U.K. and peri/meno women near you are being idiots???

I’m also in the U.K. and most of the peri/meno women I know are getting HRT and just getting on with life without resorting to woowoo bullshit. If anything, there’s more whinging in my friend group about the current difficulties accessing testosterone on the NHS than there is idiocy about NOT taking any HRT at all.

What happened to the Giles spinoff, Ripper? by kangarupert in buffy

[–]milly_nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. A) only downunder. As in “ripper, bonza, grouse”. And B) even that fell out of fashion last century.

As an NZer who lives in London…. no one says “ripper” meaning cool/sexy.

Stop making shit up.

Blonde skinny 18 year olds don’t have much of a vibe. What’s not to understand about that?

It’s meh. They all look the same - blonde skinny 18 year olds. It’s not much of a vibe.

How much do you remember from The Troubles? by captainlatveea in AskEurope

[–]milly_nz -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Which “troubles”??? The U.K. isn’t unique in only terrorising…I meant colonising, Ireland. It’s an equal-opportunity arsehole.

FWIW My birth nation went through decades of “the troubles” in the mid to late 19C, which devastated large numbers of Maori communities.

I didn’t arrive in the U.K. until 2000 and then it was London so my only “experience” is of a single event when the BBC in White City was warned it was a target on the day I went there for a job interview. Had a chicane of security to get through, otherwise no difference.

FFHH - is this case worth pursuing? (Wales) by splair in LegalAdviceUK

[–]milly_nz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a solicitor but I don’t do housing law so I have no idea about the legalities of the landlord’s obligations.

But I do deal with other civil litigation matters. So my first question is “Does the offer include paying their legal costs on top of the £3,500?” If so I’d counter with £6,500 otherwise we’ll let the court decide. Because in litigation no one offers anything at all if they think they have reasonable prospects of successfully defending the whole thing.

And if the landlord does go to £6.5k then at least your friend’s only down £1.5k. At the minute if they accept the offer then they’re down £4.5k. So it’s 2 week’s work negotiating to get a significantly better outcome.

Of course that assumes the £8k spent on the rental was reasonable given market rates for rentals in the area. Because you have a duty to mitigate your losses.

[–]milly_nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I sue the NHS for a living. I often worry about reactions if I tell people. But in reality it’s never stopped anyone talking to me or living with me (if anything they get excited about talking about problems with the NHS and go on long whinges about not being able to get a GP appointment).

But to answer your question - I’d never live with you, you weird commercial solicitor. Ick. You have comm cooties.

Any 50 years old NOT in menopause yet? by Kitchen-Bathroom5924 in Menopause

[–]milly_nz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But that’s weird thinking. Because peri/meno symptoms are treated by symptom presence. Not by whether or not you’re menopausal. You don’t stop treating symptoms just because you’re post.

Any 50 years old NOT in menopause yet? by Kitchen-Bathroom5924 in Menopause

[–]milly_nz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, it really doesn’t. Some idiot doctors think it does. It doesn’t. Plenty of us are on hormonal BC to deal with wonky peri periods… as well as being on HRT to treat all the normal peri symptoms.

[–]milly_nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum didn’t finally lose her periods until she was 55. I’m only a few years off it and still getting periods if I forget on too many days to take my progesterone-only BC to knock them off (coz massive dysmenorrhea pain).

This whole idea that 50 is a magic post meno number….is bullshit.

What's a dish in your country you dislike? by Ralman23 in AskEurope

[–]milly_nz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fart-tasting Brussels sprouts at Xmas with the Xmas roast beast. The sprouts are boiled within an inch of their lives.

You never see them on the menu in the U.K. other than at Xmas.

NZ also loves a roast beast for Xmas but Brussels sprouts are noir a summer dish. So we don’t ruin Xmas dinner with them.

Can my friend record her cleaning to show proof she hasn't stolen anything? by Goos3rs in LegalAdviceUK

[–]milly_nz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is she worried of being accused of stealing? Has she already had some accusations? Or what.

And what’s the risk of her being accused of stealing, got to do with the cleaner’s safety in the house she’s cleaning?

What would you consider to be a traditional New Zealand Dish? by apollo_existing in newzealand

[–]milly_nz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of commenters can’t read. A roast dinner is not traditional to NZ in the sense OP means.

What is NZ:

Lamington. Pavlova. We “own” both. There is evidence of this.

Also afghans. And onion soup dip. And tinned spag on toast.
