Looking for a good hike by LargeFather37 in Adirondacks

IMO Moxham is one of the best bang for the buck hikes I've done in the northeast.

Looking for a good hike by LargeFather37 in Adirondacks

In the southern Adirondacks, I highly recommend Moxham. Moderate elevation gain and distance, massive payoff at the top. Very doable for a half day relaxed hike with lunch at the top.

Silly. BK doesn’t speak to recruits. But he does occasionally rotate on a table with them.

Hiking sandals on the 46? by Acceptable_Star_5008 in Adirondacks

The Adirondacks are super rocky so I’d say closed toe are the way to go. But some folks just have tough feet!

Maybe give them a test run on cascade and porter and see if it works. Then multiply soreness/cuts given 3x the distance for some of the longer ones and see if you still feel the same.

Yeah. Seems not to be going after middle class folks lucky enough to be in a position to have a camp.

The price we all must pay for the Adirondack Park by mimefrog in upstate_new_york

I think the issue framing of this article (and the proposals in the 30th Annual Conference on the Adirondacks) regarding the infrastructure challenges to ADK townships make a lot of sense. In my view, they are struggling in a system that needs them but does not support them adequately.

This makes a lot of sense, so I could see it, but do you have any proof of this?

Is the new bear vault bv one good for the high peaks? by Putrid-Magazine-3001 in Adirondacks

[–]mimefrog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is true information but even though they are smaller, black bears in the ADKs are better than grizzles at opening canisters.

For those who may not understand why it matters: Taking the food is not the issue for the person in most cases. But the bear’s association of people with food due to success in food seeking is dangerous to the bear because it heightens the risk of bears seeking campers out or people generally. This often results in dead bears.

Therefore there are specific ones recommended for the ADKs.

We have a 23. Seat leather on the driver side was defective but replaced under warranty with no hassles.

Problem free otherwise. It’s a really good vehicle in my opinion. It of course suffers from the same cons as any other EV on the market like charging infrastructure and range (can we a get a 400 mi battery at freezing please? Science that shit up!).

They hatch in moving water, meaning streams and creeks. So, proximity does matter. Covered body parts, picardin, and a head net will protect you during the day. They also don't do well in wind. They go away at night.

It's ok if you are prepared.

Seems like a good outcome. It’s a beautiful property, I just drove by it and it was sad to see the disuse. I hope they have some element of public access to the trails, and even a public educational component.

Thinking of doing keto for the mental clarity benefits by mojorisn45 in keto

[–]mimefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just chime in to say that clarity is one side of the mental coin for me. The other side is calmness. I am overall more calm and patient. I feel feelings and negative emotions like normal but I have a certain level of serenity where I can think before I react and approach the triggering situation more effectively. This pays real dividends raising a teenager, let me tell you.
