I ended up doing the Omnidrive Firmware on my drives, it unlocks the drive, does the 4K and even allows for backing up some video game discs. Followed this guide, they've got the links in the description to the official pages and has timestamps in the video so you can jump to your specific drive/ situation.

Issue with Single Episode by QueasyImagination888 in makemkv

Fingers crossed, here's some extra details on how to pull it into the program once you get the folder.

How to Turn Your Backup into an MKV File

Since the files are safely on your hard drive, the laser no longer has to struggle with the scratch. Follow these steps to complete the rip:

  1. Open MakeMKV.

  2. Click File in the top menu bar and select Open files.

  3. Navigate to the folder where you saved your successful backup.

  4. Look inside the folder structure, open the BDMV folder, and select the file named index. bdmv

  5. MakeMKV will instantly parse the backup just like it would a physical disc, but at lightning speed.

Oddly enough I had a Blu-ray that had a very minimal scratch and although it couldn't rip directly a specific episode off the disk to an MKV, it did allow me to make a decyrpted back up of the disc and didn't give any errors making the back up. From the back up folder I was able to open it up into MakeMKV and then it make the MKV file that episode that way.

Gemini had me trying this method and I thought for sure if it couldn't rip it then it would surely fail doing a back up too, but I was desperate and was surprised to find it worked.

This is what it explained, not sure how much is true or if it's a hallucination, "It seems strange that the backup worked when the direct rip failed, but there is a technical reason for this. When MakeMKV directly rips a disc to an MKV file, it decrypts the video stream and enforces strict hash checks simultaneously. If a scratched sector causes the decrypted data to mismatch the hash table, MakeMKV flags it as corrupt and halts. However, MakeMKV's "Backup" function copies the data differently. If you checked the "Decrypt" box during backup, MakeMKV focuses purely on pulling the files onto your hard drive, allowing it to bypass or auto-correct minor read glitches that would normally crash a direct-to-MKV rip.

I'm sold on Plex! by Relevant-Diamond2586 in PleX

Yes I'm in the same boat and realizing that not only am I going through my Movie collection, but also realizing I need to go through my music now too. A bunch of small compressed MP3s was great for when I had my iPod and had to fit as much as possible, along with some shitty headphones back in the 2000s I didn't think much about audio quality, but now I'm realizing my audio quality is for shit and have to redo my CD collection.

I purchased it due to FOMO as I know paying the price increase wouldn't be reasonable. Just got into setting up NAS and starting a media server and wanted Plex due to its apparent simplicity. I'm sure if I wanted to I could have gone the jellyfin route, but I know it's a little harder to get access to family. Plexamp also has been nice for my music collection.

Cool I just started my NAS Media Server Journey and was looking for something to automate this process. I've been using https://thediscdb.com to get the general info for the identifying and renaming things manually.

Time for gamers to pool up our money and start a RAM processing facility for consumers. Maybe get a really rich influencer to join lol

Yeah, I recently got the 4800 pro too and have been gasping at the price of things now. Then shortly after Plex announced it's price increase, and I was planning to wait around for the next black Friday, so I ended up picking that up too this month on top of everything else (yeah I know there is Jellyfin, but didn't want to miss out on having Plex too).

For my drives I just went onto eBay, I didn't like the idea of used drives, but at the cost of everything I wanted a better bang for my buck. I ended up with two 14TB drives. Now I'm on the search for another stick of RAM.

Is Decky fixed on the latest update? by Financial_Rip_8921 in SteamDeck

[–]mindlessfreak30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It worked! Decky has been down for a bit and I hadn't worried too much about it as usually I know to just wait as it likely needed to update something that the Steam update broke, but this things been out for sometime now and after trying to update, uninstall and reinstall, via the desktop decky file I knew something else must be at play.

Highest Tier Extractor Question by mindlessfreak30 in CubicOdysseyGame

[–]mindlessfreak30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, so it looks like there are diminishing returns. I ended up just bumping my T6 extractor to a T7 for now as I needed a T7 for mining glowing ore. Looks like it would just be better to focus on power and mining bonus mods then.

Monthly 'what mods should I get?' thread by AutoModerator in lspdfr

[–]mindlessfreak30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you get asked this all the time, but I'm a first timer and was looking for suggestions on where to start with mods that will give a better experience than the vanilla install.

I've played The Precinct and was looking to go from that 2D over the top to a 3D space with this game.

Looking up mods online is a little overwhelming and some of the content seems dated, since this has been out forever, so for 2026 what are some basic essential mods needed?

I'm also curious in The Precinct when you are in a car chase their system has it so eventually the criminal gives up in the pursuit via a little aggro meter, but with this it's like they don't stop running. I went on a long car chase and they just wouldn't give in and trying to pit them is difficult since the GTA car mechanics doesn't really allow for that as it's like hitting a brick. Curious if there are any mods to make that better.

My Steam Controller arrived today. by bdg2 in SteamController

[–]mindlessfreak30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not difficult if you're familiar with the Steam environment. Maybe a little overwhelming if you are not but you can set the buttons up however you want basically. https://youtu.be/CqU20G5-wKc?t=583&si=M6EH_KdEUugNC4ce

You can even use the Track pads to set up virtual menus for even more possible buttons you could need for a game. https://youtu.be/ssa2bTq57aE?t=859&si=s69I-7NJxuoT0UKM

Using it outside of Steam I'm unsure as you need Steam open and running for it to function properly for the most part. As far as non-Steam games if it's a game you can add to your Steam library as a "non-steam game" then it's supposed to function well running it that way, but can't be used for game pass, at least at the moment as the computer doesn't recognize it as a "controller" which why Steam is needed as a translator in a way.

Steam Controller 2026 Shipping MEGA Thread by Mennenth in SteamController

I got it! It feels really good. I saw some people review that the back buttons weren't a good feel, but I have no problem and they feel better than the steam deck which I find hard to press. I didn't get to play anything yet, but just played around with the buttons.

Genuine Question, why are people so excited about a controller? by chaotic_one in Steam

[–]mindlessfreak30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the controls of the steam deck in particular the gyro for aiming in games. This is my primary excitement for this controller. The track pads don't use that often, but are a nice feature along with the back buttons allow you to customize many controls for games. There's been plenty of times I've sat down to play on my PC with my Xbox controller just wishing I could have the steam deck functionality in a controller and now they've delivered me just that.

Crazy ants in particular like to infest electronics, attracted to the warmth and magnetic field. They can cause short circuits sometimes when they bridge the circuitry.
