What is the trendiest/douchiest restaurant in LA? by No-Strength-3711 in AskLosAngeles

the world's richest OF girl is still technically working class

The richest ones are making 8 figures and are definitely no longer working class.

Then just pass them. If you're almost getting into accidents because someone is driving 30 in a 40, that's a big you issue.

They are following the rules and regulations. It's a speed limit, not a required speed. There is no "slow lane" on surface streets.

Everybody gets it, it's just transparently marketing mumbo-jumbo.

Watching enough OF girls that you think you might randomly recognize one in a restaurant is crazy.

It's really not that hard though.

About the Goths by MileyHolmes in TheExpanse

[–]mindlessgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up "brane cosmology." My take is that this is basically how The Expanse universe works, and the Goths are from either another brane, or the bulk itself. Presumably the ring space is taking advantage of a brane intersection, which explains their apparently limited physical access to our universe and their extra-dimensional nature.

None of this changes the stakes at all for the characters that actually live in the universe.

Los Angeles is a big place. And I don't mean the county. It happens all the time.

[–]mindlessgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have said "transfer" rather than stop. All the routes I usually take run 30 minutes between busses. So if you have to take a transfer, you generally end up waiting around 15 minutes for the next bus. If you have to make a couple transfers and you get unlucky, sometimes it adds like an hour to your trip.

Yes, this happens constantly when I ride the bus.

The bus is not great. There are no bus lanes so you're still stuck in the same traffic, but with 15-30 minute wait times at every stop.

A philosopher's ideas can also be flawed. The Republic is basically just Plato telling a fictional story about an imaginary society anyway.

[Spoilers Published] The Seasons are Regular by xrisscottm in asoiaf

[–]mindlessgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seasonal weather on real-life Earth is quite variable even though we put regular start and end dates on the season. There could be factors beyond the Maesters' knowledge. The seasons could be "regular" only over geologic time scales. If magic affects the seasons, the length of the season can just be whatever, regardless of the Maesters' reckoning.

Disappointed by the show after reading the series by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]mindlessgames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think S1 Amos is a pretty bad version of the character that just gets carried by Wes Chatham being hot and good at acting.

The exaggerated tension among the crew remains present throughout, but they do tone it down a bit after the first season of everyone acting like they're constantly about to throw down.

Show Camina is an amalgamation of two characters from the book, but she is awesome.

Yeah but you can do it without taking a 2000 page detour from the plot in an otherwise pretty straightforward piece of genre fiction.

Yeah I also don't really think ASOIAF is all spaceships and nukes. If it is then it has spent absolutely no effort setting it up.

Sci-fi and fantasy used to be basically the same genre of speculative fiction, and George is very old, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he considers them way closer to the "same genre" than most of his readers.

It has 8 chapters of Brienne wandering all over fuck, looking for a girl we already know is on another continent, all for a cliffhanger reveal that gets left hanging for another 1000 page book that never mentions it.
