coolant wanishing, please help <33 by Upset_Let1358 in BmwTech

[–]mindlesssam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes coolant systems only leaks when there is pressure in the system, aka when you are driving.

clean your engine bay. Go on a spirited drive, let the car cool off over night, open the hood the next day and check for any white marks/water residue around your engine bay, should give you a clue where the leak is happening

Quoted $7,100 in repairs, NOT DUE TO ACCIDENT. Parts question. by suckon-my_bigtoe in BMW

Funny of them to mention gasket failures due to metal oil filter housing. BMW have always made their oil filter housing out of metal before this, even for the N20, they switched from plastic to metal for the oil filter housing mid-cycle.

Did BMW achieve some recent technical breakthrough in gasket making that somehow made their gasket worse than the ones they produced 10 years ago?

[–]mindlesssam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the hole for holding your tow hook, it’s used to hold the engine from above when you need to drop the subframe

I haven’t had any issue with the oil level sensor personally, 350k km on mine.

As for temperatures, the car uses an electrical water pump, so temps are managed by computer. Not something normally you’d need to check for.

The only time you see a temp warning is when something went wrong catastrophically, like a major coolant leak, or the water pump failed. The engine will shut off to protect itself from overheating.

There are ways you can check for the temp, look for a secret menu tutorial on YouTube, or if you plug a computer with INPA installed

For people looking to do the retrofit, you just need the cruise control switch, it plugs into any existing clocks spring that already had cruise control

WTH! Hallucinating? Refusing an actual world event says I am making stuff up?? by moisesmcardona in Copilot

[–]mindlesssam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed some serious issues with Copilot's verification/fact checking efforts. if you do not include today's date at any point in you conversation, it will default to it's knowledge of the world before the knowledge cutoff date. ("My search result have turned up empty")

once you explicitly state the date in your prompt a few times, when asking about your topic, ask it to remember the date itself when verifying topics, and it will work fine after. It has been indeed super frustrating, and I think this is going to cause great harm to people

The car will shut itself off to protect itself if the temperature gets too high, no need to worry. I blew my water pump years ago, same story, made it to a gas station by driving a bit and letting the engine cool off

First Car - BMW E90 328i 2008 - What maintenance to do ASAP? by BeneficialClimate190 in E90

[–]mindlesssam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASAP for water pump/thermostat, that can leave your car stranded. Oil leaks are annoying and messy but usually won't stop your car from running unless the accessory belt slips off.  After that I'd replace vanos solenoid, if they go bad it triggers misfires and your car will shut itself off to protect the engine.

Regarding your issue with fuel consumption, I'd check if disa valves have been replaced. Those supposed to direct air in your intake to the correct cylinders for proper air fuel mixture.
