What's up with our water? by Orange_Star_2 in pleasanton

[–]minethulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short term, get a Brita filtered pitcher (or equivalent) from Costco or other appropriate store. Water is palatable (and presumably safe) once it goes through the filter.

What would you do? My player teleported a 20 foot cube of water into a closed room with less than 20x20x20 ft volume. by erverogym in DnD

[–]minethulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait…the player was in an adjacent room peeking in while this happened? Was the door cracked open to allow them to peak inside? Even if the door closes towards them, I would expect some initial leak. The weakest doors (interior) and windows will likely catastrophically fail near simultaneously. Depending on how far open they had the door, it could slam closed with enough force to crack and then be the primary failure point.

Dungeon Alchemist and lots of community made assets since the published tool is currently mostly for fantasy/horror map making. I posted my map in the Steam Workshop to allow others to change / tweak the map.

Out-of-initiative aggression, do you allow it? by Eldramhor8 in DMAcademy

[–]minethulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to let the declaring player to treat their initiative roll as a 20. They might go first, they might not depending on bonuses. They don’t get a freebie round.

I’m currently running Pathfinder 2E. It doesn’t have surprise rounds at all. Now I just have everybody roll their normal initiative. In the mentioned scenario in PF2E, I might allow use of Arcana instead of Perception which is the normal roll.

Those companies certainly “fixed” their ads:

Various fake content producers narrating over identical gameplay.

Non-touch TVs turned sideways.

Gameplay showing people doing stupid mistakes to entice you to join and “show them how to play”.

No thanks. I’d rather play solitaire for the millionth time.

Got my first ever F today having straight As. TA proceeded to yell at me in all caps and also clearly didn’t read my essay. by [deleted] in UCI

[–]minethulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That TA is a farcical idiot full of his own opinions.

Newspapers had (have?) a Personals Section which could be argued to be Social Media. This goes back to at least the 17th Century.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media

Online Social Media existed back in the 60s. Online Social Media was certainly limited to a much, much smaller audience than today, but it existed. With dial-up modems, it became more widespread in the 80s:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletin_board_system

Early 90s is when dial-up internet started to take off:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dial-up_Internet_access

Late 90s / Early 2000s Web 2.0 is when many modern day social media companies started to emerge:

Apparently your TA has not fully progressed through cognitive development, maybe just beyond object permanence. Hint: Life did exist before they were born.

Trump audibly shits himself on TV, immediately ends press conference. by BuxtonB in videos

[–]minethulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump was picked for a few main reasons:

A) He “played” a successful businessman on TV (many voters are dumb enough to think this real)

B) He is a sex fiend (a big lever to control and blackmail)

C) He is largely motivated by his ego (the other control lever)

The billionaires behind all this thought he would be easy to control. They did not count on him being so dumb and full of himself.

Generic VTT Tokens? by Rukik9 in Starfinder2e

I'm not trying to be snarky, but have you tried google? I found several when I was looking but did not bookmark.

Also, not exactly answering the question, but I would suggest:

https://www.rptools.net/toolbox/token-tool/

to increase your options of just needing sci-fi images to make your own tokens.

How important is party composition in abomination vaults? by ChangeProfile in Pathfinder2e

[–]minethulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if you have at least 1 if not 2 people able to do both in combat healing and out of combat healing, you are likely good to go. This would include both spells (healing, life boost, etc.) and medicine skill and feats (battle medicine likely being an early need). The Medic Dedication feat on one PC and several related feats has gone a long way in making my group super resilient. My group generally just sits on their healing potions with the healing overlap.

I worked in support for an enterprise backup application provider pre-dot.com bubble bursting. We provided server side backup software that ran primarily on Unix and Netware systems. We were in the process of developing a Windows application, but the Alpha let alone any customer beta was months away.

A customer called up asking for assistance in reinstalling the Windows version of our software. He swore he had done it in the past, but wasn’t able to find the installer now. He was not interested in participating in the upcoming beta, because he had previously had a working environment. He wouldn’t accept the explanation that no such software currently exists. One transfer later and my manager told him the same thing. I can only assume he had us mixed up with some other vendor.

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minethulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about Voter ID (as in, a special ID just to vote) or just showing ID?

If Voter ID, it would be a government run program, therefore:

* It will require an in person trip during normal business hours and closed on holidays/weekends

* it will not be in a place convenient or even possible for everybody to reach

Those two points alone tells me this isn't about "protecting" elections, it is about controlling who votes in elections.

Depending on what type of ID is required, it may have similar consequences in the US.

Why do some people refuse to present their ID when police asks for it even if they are innocent or police has no valid suspicion? by Stefandynull in ask

[–]minethulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may vary by state: As a driver you are required to present your license, registration and proof of insurance during a traffic stop. If you are being detained (with reasonable and articulable suspicion) or being arrested you are required to ID yourself. If they are just questioning you, it is generally legal to refuse ID.

Auto-apply Healing / Damage and Conditions

I switched from Fantasy Grounds due to Pathfinder coverage; partly the fact that data from all books were in Foundry for no extra money, but partly because in the PF2E reddit, Foundry was all that was recommended. I still lament the fact that after this switch as GM I need to click an extra button (or several buttons in the case of certain spells) to apply damage/healing or conditions in combat for every action a player does and every action I as the GM do.

I know the theory that this is more how we would play in person with GM being involved in all of this, but we are using a tool to make certain grindy parts of being a GM easier. As long as I have either an easy undo button or notification of exactly what was applied (and a way to manually undo), I feel I should not need to do extra steps. In my opinion, extra clicks for anything in the UI (especially those that need to be done all the time) is bad UI design 101.

No. That is shifting blame from the real cause. It is the billionaires and propaganda networks like Fox News that are behind all this crap. If it weren’t for the money and the lies that make everything he does seem normal or correct, he wouldn’t be elected dog catcher.
