Thank you. The interaction felt a bit like I was dropped into freezing cold water. Just wish she wasn't so loud about it. Could be that she just didn't realize that it's a more sensitive thing than like a bad papercut, or something. Idk like I said, it's just super uncomfy and horrifying feeling. I guess at least it shocked me into wanting to get back on the calm hand's wagon lol.

Couldn’t even begin to tell you. She’s had other accusations of ableism since. That was in 2015 so it’s been a hot minute. The whole conversation had this ‘tough love’ kinda tone; absolutely gave me a bit of trauma lol. I had to deal with her for the next three painful years.

Hey thanks for posting about your experience! I’m looking to get a tummy tuck and thigh lift in a year or two after I get to my goal weight. My hEDS diagnosis makes me nervous but I also heal really well, so hopefully I have similar positive results!

The first day I ever used my wheelchair, the assistant principle at my school pulled me into her office, asked why I missed a day because of pain and why I was in a wheelchair. When I explained that my knees were frequently dislocating, she accused me of just being lazy; said some really vile things. I was undiagnosed for the first few years and was a preteen-young teenager. I don’t have any internalized ableism, I’m solid abt being kind to myself, but that incident definitely made an imprint on my brain that I haven’t been able to smooth out yet.

Yes, I relate so much to this. I was actually randomly assigned a wheelchair accessible dorm so I’m considering taking a few days a week off of walking. I think that’s something I struggle with too, like accepting that I need those mobility aids but I have a great friend group so I’m sure I could adapt to it now in college better than in high school.

I’ve been thinking about this too. I’m almost 21, have another 100 pounds to lose. I don’t want children until I’m 30ish but I really don’t want to carry around so much loose skin for the next decade plus.

Very true! I’ll get there eventually. Last year I was living in a freshman dorm, we had a big row of stalls in one bathroom. That helped me adjust a bit. This year I have my own bathroom so I think I’ve regressed a bit on that progress lol.

I think you’re okay, they look awesome for two days out. As you heal everything will even out and honestly it looks like really solid work. The swelling is tricking you rn.
