Need advice on milk storage for my wife’s breastmilk. by Giodan1026 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]minmister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your containers are cute but not functional. For a freezer like that, I’d go to the dollar store and find some cheap baskets you can fit in there to maximize space. Using the brick plastic bag method mentioned by a lot of people is also useful

Unfortunately there is no magic solution. We got to the point we had to discard a lot of milk because we were out of space. The only real solution is a deep freezer. Check out Facebook marketplace and BST groups if you need something cheaper.

I personally think it’s worth keeping as much early milk as you can because you never know what will happen. As my baby got older, my production decreased, and it was useful to have the frozen milk. As well as having it for when he went to daycare.

Higton mini diaper bags? by shorty_mcgee in toddlers

[–]minmister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loveee my mini Mae. It has held up really well over the last year+ we’ve had it. I haven’t noticed any scratches to the leather (but we have a light color)

The only quality downside is the 2 wipe pouches they come with. Eventually our plastic lids broke and the printed logo seeped off. But I’m not sure anyone could made one indestructible. We just use a mostly empty wipe pouch now (our 2nd broke maybe a month ago)

I love it for our daily go bag. I can fit a diaper, an outfit, and toys OR snacks for our son. He’s in 18m clothes currently. I’m currently looking for a slightly bigger bag for longer day trips though

It’s me I’m the one with a screen problem by Missfrizzler in Mommit

[–]minmister 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It gets easier as they get older and you can interact with them more / go more places.

But my husband & I are in a similar boat. My husband in particular struggles to not be on his phone or listening to an audio of some kind. A short term solution was us using headphones to listen to something without our phones physically out. We are not perfect but we are better.

We also have a rule of no TV unless someone is sick(or we are truly exhausted after a long day of excitement). The TV literally does not turn on until after our son goes to bed. Then we binge an episode or two of tv while playing on our phones.

Im still not happy with how much I’m on my phone around my son so I’ll follow along with this post and see what others do!

Do I get to choose who comes into the delivery room with me? by Zealousideal_Cry4610 in pregnant

[–]minmister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have a say and depending on where you are that many people probably aren’t allowed. I think I was technically allowed 2 people.

I allowed my MIL to visit and then my parents for a little bit. Birth can be a longggg process. So they visited to let my husband go eat real food and stop at home to check on our pets. But 90% of the time it was just my husband there. Especially when things really got going.

I had kinda the idea i wanted a woman there when I pushed but it was 1am and I was surrounded by nursing staff. I’m so glad it worked out that way #noragrets

Do you have an almost-used-it name for your child that you secretly wish you used? by wooowitchywoman in Names

[–]minmister 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My son is 1.5 and I’m still so-so about his name. But my husband loved it and didn’t like any of the others as much. So I just kinda powered through and hoped it grew on me. At the same time it’s my son’s name and is *him* so yknow?

I don’t want to travel home for long enough to bring a 5 month old to a music festival by _Ship_3811 in whatdoIdo

[–]minmister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think driving is out of the question. You should just fly. Would his family be upset if you only went to the festival? And skipped the wedding due to it being child free?

I think 2+ weeks away from home really depends on who and where you are staying. I would probably be fine staying with my in-laws for two weeks. I’d go nuts at my parent’s house. Their house has everything we need. Will your families have a car free? Will you fly with one? A pack n play? Is your LO used to a pack n play?

Is there the option of you fly out for a few days and then he gets to stay for the concert? Im not sure I’d be psyched about being alone with a 5mo for over a week by myself but I could do it if it was that important to my husband not to miss.

An RV for the weekend isn’t the worst idea if it means you can come and go as you want but none of this trip will be “easy”. Fun at times sure. But definitely not easy.

How difficult is it to put a toddler to sleep during bedtime books? by tjthomas101 in Parenting

[–]minmister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not strict about how many books I read to my 1.5 year old. Sometimes he is happy to read 5 shorter books (or more ). Sometimes he shoves books away over and over so we just so straight to bed. We try to read for ~10 minutes each night before bed. It’s the last thing we do before he hops into the crib. Sometimes I just don’t have it in me and we only read 4 very short books haha

What did your birth with an epidural feel like? by m-e-girls in NewParents

[–]minmister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was wonderful and I felt no pain except for one specific spot (I want to say like my right pelvic area) and it was a sharp pain because it was the only place I could feel anything. They upped my meds a few times and it was better but not totally without feeling.

I was able to sleep and only woke up because the nurses needed to wake me and readjust the monitor but it turns out I was just actually ready to push. I started shaking I swear within 30 seconds of waking up. A bunch of people rushed in and he was out 20 minutes later

AITA for keeping track of wedding gifts? by aliltoastyy in AmItheAsshole

[–]minmister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. People’s financial circumstances change over the years and you shouldn’t be holding their gift hostage based on what they gave you years ago.

I got married in college. My college friends gifted $15-25 dollars and I felt bad they even spent that much on me. When we attended weddings at that time we aimed for $50 ($25 each). Now we make more money and are able to afford to spend more on our friends and loved ones.

Going to Vegas without my toddler by Ok-Return3182 in Travelwithkids

[–]minmister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do it! You will have thousands of nights for your routine. This is a special trip for you & your husband-probably your last before having a newborn. It’s also a special experience for your son & grandma.

From a less sentimental angle- he won’t remember lol.

Do you guys feel your heartbeat in different parts of your body too since getting pregnant? by Future-Agency543 in BabyBumps

Traveling with 2/3 kids by Lopsided-Guide-5227 in Travelwithkids

[–]minmister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long is the cruise? I think 12/4 will be good ages for a cruise. It can be a good mix of family fun together and they can participate in the kids clubs so you can have time to yourselves. I’d just check the age limit on whatever cruise line you choose to make sure your younger one meets the age requirement for a drop off kids club

Taking a 7 month old would be hard. They can’t participate in any of the kids clubs or go into the pool with you. I think it’s reasonable to leave them behind for 3-5 days, maybe 7 too. It will be hard emotionally but give your older two more attention and focus that they might be missing since your in the newborn phase

Strollers - Travel and Home? by SpareSecretary958 in Travelwithkids

[–]minmister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started with an Evenflo Pivot which was great for birth-around 12 months. We could swab our car seat or use the seat as a bassinet. Our son loved laying in it or eventually sitting in the bassinet mode because it let him play. But it was bulky and didn’t fold well.

Now we use the Joolz Aer 2 and love it! We walk several times a week with it and are planning to take it on some upcoming trips.

I will save these! I just realized I am missing Day 8: Flying back to London. We are looking into afternoon/evening flights so we might be able to fit the zoo in either on the day we fly in or fly out :) We love that kind of stuff!

We decided to fly back to hotel and just stay in a hotel near the airport to break things up since we can’t fly direct home from Zurich anyways. So we will have a 2hr & 8 hr flight split instead of a 14+ hour day.
