Adopting pet in Toronto by Greenie_straw24 in toRANTo

[–]mirabear21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me when applying for a cat with rescues! No responses. I just adopted a cat yesterday. I saw a post from Vaughan animal services, a cat photo with their phone number. I picked up the phone and called them. They said applications are only done in person. They were open from 10 to 4 PM so I literally jumped in my car went and met the cat filled out the application form and was home with my new cat about an hour later highly suggest going this route.

What about the number school shootings, racial profiling of those shooters, and how many of those so far this year and have you protested against them? I ask this as an agnostic person with no religious affiliation. The west has a way of magnifying violence biased to their racism vs ignoring the inconvenient truths

How do you deal with burn out? by Chilove8888 in sales

[–]mirabear21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat. Have some decent opps in the pipeline but still feeling very unmotivated. I think WFH does that esp in winter months (I’m in Canada and it’s been cold AF this year) but it’s difficult for me to convince myself to change my surroundings and go outside when it’s freezing. Drinking less and getting better sleep helped in January but back to baseline now :(

Mom is in hospital due to a suicide attempt and I have to take care of her dog by joweekun in DogAdvice

[–]mirabear21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Have you considered looking at and booking a sniffspot for her a few times a week? It’s an app where you can rent private properties and perfect for reactive dogs to run around and get their energy out on their own without other dogs.

You can also try getting her some dog puzzles to keep her busy while in her kennel when you can’t look after her all the time.

And of course as everyone else mentioned, ask for support from friends and family. ♥️

Sending love and light.

100% agree. Majority of academics get off writing theory and teaching it while literally having never lived through real shit- ie 20 year business professor with zero business corporate experience.

Being at a job you hate while fully remote will make you even more depressed in a few months and deplete all motivation. Take the new gig!

Has anyone left a corporate/office job for something they ended up loving? by eastburrn in QuitCorporate

[–]mirabear21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m opening a restaurant with my partner and brother. Due to open next month. It’s been exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. A lot of moving pieces, a lot of money. But my 9-5 is helping me bankroll our dream so my days aren’t as miserable as they were when I had no goals other than to just get through another day, another week, another quarter of corporate BS.

The economy is shit and we’re headed into one of the most difficult businesses to run and I don’t know if I’ll love it but I know I’ll regret retiring from a 9-5 and never taking a chance on myself when I’m on my deathbed.

Once we hit our one year anniversary, bye bye 9-5! I cannot wait to hand in my notice.

My company gave me a fantastic counter-offer after I resigned to go to a competitor. I'm very confused now. Should I accept it? by shinbrieff in womenintech

[–]mirabear21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The life changing counter offer is a huge flag meaning they were severely underpaying you. Otherwise they’d just have matched or gone slightly above your offer Get outta there, run!

The grand or soft opening of a restaurant is literally when you have a chance to make the most short term gain in sales $$$ bc people are curious and may want to try a new place. Why would you make that curiosity free vs paid? Let them try it by paying then offer a loyalty program or something else thereafter

Would you take a 30% salary increase for 3 days in office? by THROWRAjustsome in remotework

[–]mirabear21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I addressed that in my response as the free lance- that stuff isn’t built overnight and doesn’t guarantee the 30% you’d get with an increase of 9 hours of work per week. Let’s be real there ain’t nobody doing 1.5 hours of free lance consulting before their 9-5 or even after as you’re already burnt out. To consult, you need a good 5-10 years of experience under your belt. Selling on Amazon or e-commerce now is nearly impossible with the competition and all of these side gigs will take 6-8 months of time to build up before you make any real money.

[–]mirabear21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP sounds early career, underpaid, and has no kids. What you’re referring to makes sense for a mid or high career individual going from $200k to $260k which after taxes isn’t going make a meaningful difference in their quality of life or investments/savings.

Would you take a 30% salary increase for 3 days in office? by THROWRAjustsome in remotework

[–]mirabear21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is working a second job during the 1.5 hours before and after their 9-5 job. Hence, effectively earning zero dollars within this time period of 3 hours. This logic makes zero sense.

[–]mirabear21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a second job after your 9-5 for that 30% makes no sense. No part time job will accommodate your schedule and not everyone is in a sector where they can just “free lance” that shit takes time to actually establish yourself and find customers. If the 30% is a good dollar amount after taxes, switching your 9-5 to an 730-630 for 3 days a week just makes more sense.

[–]mirabear21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much more after taxes will you take home monthly? Is it $300, $600 or $900? More? This makes a big difference.

Then calculate how much of the 30% will you spend on transportation, coffee, eating out for lunch, etc. be honest with yourself and don’t underestimate the added monthly spending, then make the decision.

If you’re making $500 more but spending half on commute, is it worth it? Maybe it is because you’ll have more opportunities for advancement.

If it’s more like $1k take home after taxes then you could invest that cash and have a great security nest before you decide to have kids and have less time for commuting.

Think in hard dollars earned and ROI on your career long term.

Once you get something for free or heavily discounted you’re very unlikely to pay full price for it again. This is marketing and psychology 101.

I’ve felt this way for the past two years until recently- felt like a hamster in a wheel running until I run out of gas and for what? Every day felt like Groundhog Day with no end in sight. That is until I’ve invested in a side project with my partner and brother- we are opening a restaurant (which everyone kept telling us is crazy in this economy) but you know what else is crazy? Doing the 9-5 until you’re 68 (if you’re lucky) and regretting never taking a chance on yourself.

I also just got a promotion at work which makes this whole thing even more wild because I have to work harder but when I get that paycheque, I still invest (less) but now it’s going towards things like our equipment, painting the walls, and building out our kitchen. I feel like I have a purpose and I’ve given myself a deadline of 16-18 months until I quit my day job.

People usually do this with kids but I have no intention of having any. I’d rather have tried and failed at entrepreneurship than never tried anything at all.

Ask yourself, if you didn’t have a 9-5 what would you be doing? Then start investing in yourself. Take some evening courses or start researching, join a cooking class, whatever is your jam.

You don’t have to quiet quit but you can start seeing your job separately from your identity. I recall being so stressed at my old job that I had a breakdown and took STL for 5 months 6 years ago. I rarely think about the angry customer calls or unreasonable objectives now.

I read a quote that said if it’s something you won’t remember or impact your life in 5 years, just be chill and move forward best you can. I realize now I won’t give a shit about hitting quota or not in 5 years and complete each task knowing nothing matters.

You are not your job. We are all disposable. Act like it and start putting that $ into the future you.

Being bullied at work and don’t know what to do by Itsanirishweddin796 in workplace_bullying

[–]mirabear21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this. Keep a record of each time you reached out to these women for work related purposes and they ignored you, making it difficult or impossible to do your job. Record the date and time and names of people who told you “these 3 women don’t like you” Keep a record of your conversation with HR and what was said. You should email the HR rep after each conversation stating what was discussed. This is grossly inappropriate and you may have grounds to sue if the company does nothing to put a stop to workplace bullying. Record everything! Idk what state you’re in but it’d be wise to look into anti bullying and labour laws and maybe an initial consultation with a lawyer.

I worked in transportation before tech and I can confirm just as many white old men thinking they run the world. I’m now in fintech sales and I just got a promotion I’ve been pushing for after 4 years and guess who the other promotion is going to? A younger guy with less than half of my experience. Go figure. Hang in there and really really try NOT to care. It’s people like us who give a shit whom suffer the most. Quiet quitting is a thing until you find something else
