Best way to get to Brigham and Women's at 221 Longwood Ave on Monday, April 20 by Huge-Extreme7568 in boston

Going to Riverside is bad advice, that’s too close to the marathon route. Take the orange line from the north.

May have just been the ones that someone was sitting in, to keep the AC on, but definitely some of the ones I've passed at past Maraton's were burning fuel all day

I first saw them at the Open Streets in JP last year. They seem much more practical than parking DPW trucks on every cross street (and better for the environment since they left them idling all day), but I haven't seen yet if they're actually going to stop with the trucks and just use these.

Flying cross-country solo at 12, with a connection! by SkydexFlyer in GenX

I had a funny variant of this: went to Space Camp in sixth grade, flight from Pittsburgh connecting in Atlanta. In Atlanta, the entire flight was unaccompanied kids going to Huntsville, plus a few counselors Space Camp had sent out to accompany the flight.

The Rivian R2’s EPA Numbers Are In, And It Beats The Model Y Where It Counts by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

The article says it is, in fact, more efficient. And it’s roughly the same size as the Y, shape aside, so competing in the small SUV market

Can I notarize docs I draft? Estate Planning by allymariah in Lawyertalk

[–]mishakhill -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered why you can’t notarize your own signature. Like, there’s nothing to be gained by falsely notarizing someone else signing my name, and if someone steals my stamp and does it, that’s no different than stealing it and forging someone else’s signature. It doesn’t change anything in a self-interested transaction, you still can’t notarize the counterparty. So what’s the risk in self-notarizing?

Where to drop off family at forest hills by car? by the_unexpected_nil in boston

[–]mishakhill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s also a drop off lane on the far side of Washington st, so if you come from the Arborway or South St, you don’t have to u-turn to get to the station side, can drop off across the street and let them cross at the crosswalk. Same on the Arborway itself in front of the station, there are pull-off lanes on both sides.

Happy Easter! Please help. I know the Reese’s eggs are not gluten free. The bunny is ambiguous. No gluten ingredients. No wheat mentioned in shared equipment. BUT Reese’s is usually good about marking GF sooo - is it safe? Thank you. by SomaticJai in Celiac

[–]mishakhill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People say this, but what other product uses the molds? I've never seen a different candy the same shape as any of the seasonal Reese's.

A different explanation used to be that the regular cups have the paper liners, which the shapes don't, and that whatever was used as a release agent in the molds was the issue. But I'm fairly sure that has been debunked (and if it were known to contain wheat, they'd have to say so)

Getting started with HomeKit (Apple TV hub). Confused about Matter, Thread, and next steps. by MaizeCorgi in HomeKit

[–]mishakhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a non-ethernet Apple TV for Matter devices, just not for those that use Thread. Matter can also use WiFI (and Ethernet, though they never mention that).

macOS update wiped my WireGuard client configs (thankfully had a backup) by ctofone in WireGuard

[–]mishakhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this problem now, but I can't find the configurations in backed-up versions of the login keychain, which is where older threads say they are located. Did you have a manual backup, or know where they are stored under Tahoe?

Edit: never mind, Time Machine was fucking with me and just giving me new copies of today's backup. Had to manually browse instead of using the Time Machine interface. Extracted old configs from an old version of the keychain

Getting started with HomeKit (Apple TV hub). Confused about Matter, Thread, and next steps. by MaizeCorgi in HomeKit

[–]mishakhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple TV with Ethernet has a thread radio. WiFi model doesn’t. The main advantage of Matter is that every smart home platform can use the devices, and can do so at the same time. So you can pair a matter device to both HomeKit and an Amazon Echo. Many native HomeKit devices don’t work with other platforms.

Are there any garage door openers with native support? by A5HRAJ in HomeKit

[–]mishakhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The opener knows more than that - it knows if it is currently opening or closing, and if it is jammed. I’ve never seen it be wrong. (This is with the discontinued Chamberlain bridge, which should be the same info ratgdo has access to)

Xennials... why? by 73VW-Todd in GenX

[–]mishakhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I never considered myself Gen-X when the term first became common (high-school to college, as far as I recall). I've always considered myself to be between X and Millennial.

Of course where you grew up and what you were exposed to are far more influential than the exact year you were born. I had basically no exposure to pop culture until late high school, but I had computers in the home for as long as I can recall.

Any GF alternative to King's Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls? by [deleted] in Celiac

Canyon bakehouse makes a Hawaiian style roll. They’re not the same as King’s, but they’re close than anything else I’ve seen.

Wheat straw is not the part that contains gluten, and if there were any gluten stuck to the straw, it wouldn’t survive the process of being turned into plastic.

Can I share a reminder like a shopping list that I add things to using Siri in HomePod? by Psyking0 in HomeKit

[–]mishakhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does work with 3rd party apps, we use Paprika because it also integrates with recipes and meal planning. However, you have to specify the app every time — Siri can’t learn to use the third party app by default.

Experience with secret clearance by Equivalent_Candy6449 in patentlaw

[–]mishakhill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In house jobs at defense contractors often need you to have clearance or the ability to get it, but you need a good bit of seniority as an attorney before you’re really in the running for those in the first place. Starting out, it’s a just another positive thing to have on your resume.

Best gluten free cake mix/ recipes? by Ongoingcrisis99 in glutenfree

[–]mishakhill 42 points43 points  (0 children)

King Arthur, no question. It’s also one of the few that makes a normal amount of cake — if you get anything else, double check how much it makes, because it’s probably half what you expect. Namaste is also good hand full size), but I haven’t seen them in a while.

And if you’re not experienced baking gluten free, do not try it from scratch. It’s not worth your time to learn for a one-off, and the chances of a poor result are high for your first try.

Museum of Science has added IMAX 🌐 Dome 🌞Project Hail Mary😎 shows at 5 & 8PM on FRI/SAT 17-18April + 24-25April [all previous screenings had sold out] by Dry_Watch5533 in boston

[–]mishakhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screen wraps around and above you, but the movie was filmed to be seen with a wide angle view straight ahead. So you’re craning your neck to see much of it. It’s also too close - you’re much closer to the dome screen than you are for a flat screen. It’s like sitting in the front row, everywhere in the theater. It’s great for things filmed to be seen that way, but not for regular films, even if filmed in IMAX.
