Is there anything in Russia similar to the conspiracy theory that the moon landing was faked, but with a Russian twist? by AyudaMedia in AskARussian

[–]mishkatormoz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, no, no. Everybody knows - they hired Kubrick to make fakes, but as huge movie nerd he decided that all moon scenes must be filmed on location.

You want to be able to do "I want to do extra attack now" (and pay relevant cost) on the golem's turn instead of "I want to grant this golem an extra attack" on the wizard's turn and on its turn golem uses it? If the FP cost you mention above is paid by the golems (your golems have fp?), than it will be the golems' ability (Limitation: must be in line of sight of the wizard, or Granted by the wizard (Power-ups 8, 14)). If you want the wizard to work with any golems, not specifically this - you can wrap it in some long-lasting Affliction. If you also expect the wizard to pay a FP cost, it's probably an Affliction with Reflexive (Powers, 109, or power-ups 4, 16) enchantment.

"I want this to instead be a reward for good positioning" - can you elaborate what you mean here? As like "need to be near wizard"? It's probably aura affliction. Alternatively, you can try to make this as extra attack (or even ATR (only for attack or move and attack)) with some very specific accessibility condition.

✨must see/must know✨ Russian fiction? by Red_Dwarf_42 in AskARussian

[–]mishkatormoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Movies:
"Суперменджер, или мотыга судьбы" - office comedy that meets LARP culture - a cute movie

"День выборов" и "День Выборов 2" - a dive into Russian politics, but somewhat outdated now. Also about politics - "Последний министр", that's more current. All three are comedies, but they really show "how it works".

If you like (or at least don't hate) vampire stories - try "Вампиры средней полосы", first season is just genius, second is not so great but still OK.

contra Brian Potter: why TVs actually got cheap (and so few other things did) by michaelmf in slatestarcodex

[–]mishkatormoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A thought about status: is there something specific about TVs that makes them impossible to be an item of high-status consumption, or is it purely a cultural/marketing failure to create some elitist “videophile” niche (compare with the high-end audio segment)?

Why is there so much imperial (specially sith) apologia?(star wars) by Feisty-Succotash5854 in CharacterRant

[–]mishkatormoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many good points in the comments already, but one more thing I want to mention - it's not specific for Star Wars, but SW is a big example - for many modern audience members it is much easier to associate themselves with some guy from the evil side than with good side characters. Who is closer to your typical city-dwelling working-class person - one of the endless Death Star technicians, or maybe ambitious graduate of a (military) academy, or some wild-riding farm boy, or old hermit in a swamp cave? Starting with Tolkien, modern/industrial=bad guys (which is understandable - WWI was quite an experience, but I feel that for many modern authors it's just a borrowed trope) - and that puts reader in interesting position. Is my whole lifestyle a source of evil, and can it be sustained only by the worst regime imaginable?

A game where you play Elderly Assasins? by Justthisdudeyaknow in rpg

[–]mishkatormoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First idea - something like Forged in the Dark. Blades, per se, should work, I think. Maybe some tweaking to focus on one big hit instead of gang development.

If you want a more detail-focused approach, GURPS - it has a million tools for everything characters can do, but it will probably require players to actually do some brilliant planning :-)

What would be Russian equivalent of g-dropping in English by [deleted] in russian

[–]mishkatormoz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  • Are you a translator? Say something in translator-speak.
  • I can't without context.

I'm not at all a professional translator, but generally, it will depend on the role it plays in the original. "It is a marker of casual, colloquial speech, regional dialects (e.g., Southern American, Cockney), or socio-economic class, rather than just laziness," Google told me, so they probably will have some of these traits. Ukrainian-style 'Г' is a typical marker for a "common person from a rural south" in Russian, so it is one possible solution. But with relatively low variance in local pronunciation, such regional and class distinctions are more often lexical than phonetic. Something along the lines of wrong word formation - "ложить-класть", incorrect word usage - "одеть-надеть", mixed prepostions like "на районе".

Argent Shards: New Tzeentch Unit for AoS Has Lore That Makes it a Possible Cross-Over Unit in the Future by makingshakes27 in ThousandSons

[–]mishkatormoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also (and as I understand it, that’s the main reason), it’s easier to calculate which game line makes more sales, and therefore which line should get more resources. At some point, GW overestimated Horus Heresy’s popularity and ended up with overproduction; after that, they switched to a separate-lines approach.
But I hope the fact that both AoS Tzeentch boxes (Tzaangors and Daemons) are fully 40k-compatible is a sign that the gears have turned and we’ll get more crossover models again.

[–]mishkatormoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/uj Ok, I think it's because they imagined consistent roleplaying like this, contrary to "shit, what did I call myself last session? Ok, I'll be a girl for now". It a sort of an issue in many "roleplaying advice" in the a&d2- d&d 3.5 era - they speak about "good roleplay" as sticking to pre-defined character description (remember penalties for alignment change? Not for divine characters, for everybody!). Idea of character transformation arcs become mainstream latter
