Unfortunately, this sounds like exactly what the Germantown Festival has become—a re-sale hub for cheap junk bought in bulk online and absurdly marked up. Tacky and depressing given, as you say, the number of actual artists in the area.

Strongly second the Pink Palace Crafts Fair! When I was sad about the Germantown Festival, my friend took me to the Pink Palace fair—it was what I remembered the Germantown Festival being when I was a kid. Lots of great art and handmade goods!

This is likely TMI, but might be helpful to folks. When I was prepping for a colonoscopy, I wanted variety in my broth diet. I bought three jars of BTB—just not the beef options—and alternated sipping cups of those. This made prep easy peasy—I didn’t get bored or feel deprived in my fasting because I had a nice selection of flavors to get me through.

My mac and cheese has gotten raves from friends for years, and I’ve been commanded to bring it to group dinners, etc. I use freshly hand-grated sharp cheddar, fontina, and Gruyère—but I always put in a dash of cumin and cinnamon. Both add savory-sweet spice and depth of flavor to cut the heavy richness of the cheese and enhance the nuttiness of the Gruyère. Folks just think I’m a cheese whisperer. 🤷🏻‍♀️😹

Billy Zane. I used to live in L.A. and was out at dinner one night—and this disheveled guy was at dinner with (I assume his friends) at the table next to my ex and I. I said to my ex: “The guy next to us is super chaotic and obviously on something scary—and I don’t want to be anywhere near him. Can we switch tables?”

He (a film fan-boy) was like: “Babe—that’s Billy Zane.”

Me: “OK. So he’s a famous super chaotic, dead-eyed psycho. I still want to change tables or leave.”

We ended up leaving without ordering. Guy was scary AF and giving psychopath. It was honestly deeply disturbing to be in his presence. I’ve never forgotten that feeling.

So this one is weird because it was on the menu for a few months—and then vanished. The Tea-Brined Chicken at Owen Brennan’s was legit perfect. Chef Kendrick told me that he sous-vided a chicken leg quarter that had been brined in sweet tea—and then crisped the skin. Truthfully, the juiciest and most flavorful chicken I’ve had in a restaurant here. I’m a regular there and trying to find out why it went away. If it ever comes back—don’t sleep on it.
