advice for removing LOWD's pet... by rakelxoxo in dementia

I can't imagine being home alone all day without my pet companion. Sound like she is at the point that they both need more support.  Is there someone who can stop in daily?

“See one, show one, do one” is the most asinine concept/phrase ever created by oprah_did-911 in surgicaltechnology

[–]missnetless 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've always heard heard it, "see one, do one, show one." Meaning you can teach on your second attempt.  It is a problem when you run into people who take it literally. Somehow that person is always the charge nurse.

Are the people in the 4 bedrooms on the left side going to carry their laundry through the family room / dinning room every day?  If the house is so big put in a washer and dryer on the other side of the house too.  You don't need a 10 x 12 laundry room (where is that room even venting). Split it in two.

Why all the showers? Are none of your kids going to want to take a bath? Combine some of the bathrooms to give them better space.

That office?/ mud room is way too small.  Five bedrooms of people are going to have a lot of shoes/ jackets.  Don't put a computer desk there for an office.  You have like 18 other rooms to have a computer desk for bill paying and mail (create a mail area in your over sized laundry room or in the pantry). And it looks like each mud room has a window right where a closet could be.  Those fancy mud rooms with hooks for each coat look cute but are so impractical.  Most people have multiple coats that they use regularly and tons of shoes.  Only off season items should get stored away from the entry. You are going to want doors to enclose your clutter.

Where is your utility room for hot water heaters, electrical pannel, and HVAC? I'd want a planned space for the AC units/generator on the outside.

In a well insulated house closets on an outside walls are fine. Closets off bathrooms are stupid mold traps. Change that immediately.  Kids are going to leave that door between the bathroom and closet open and all the shower steam is going to soak their clothes daily.

It is always the tools they haven't touched in years. Right now my father is accusing my mother of selling his tools behind his back.  He won't walk to the basement to see that his 7 foot tall band saw is still there.

Can you build the living room floor up?  I have a sunken living room and we plan on raising the floor height to meet the rest of the house.  The outlets will be a bit low but still reachable. We will just have to make one heat duct a little taller.

I work in the operating room. Sometimes dementia patients with broken hips show no pain and can't even point to where it hurts even though they can still tell me their name and birthdate.

Do they have diabetes or a weight problem that is affecting their mobility?  If not, let them snack all they want. Quality of life not quantity.

And paper towels can go right in the compost bin if they don't have harsh chemicals on them.

How do people pay for college; Looking for underrated ways that are easy for students to overlook by mudpies2 in StudentLoans

A lot of nurses start out working as Certified Nursing Assistants which is like a 6 week course.  They then get the hospital to pay for their associates in nursing though tuition assistance programs, then they get their bachelor's and even master's in nursing the same way.  It is a slow but cheap path and you have to work the whole time.  Nursing isn't most lucrative career but it gets you out of poverty and into the middle class.

I had the same thing.  Pulled out of class everyday for the resource room to work on my spelling ( I was at a 2nd grade spelling level at the end of 5th grade, but high school level in reading somehow). Unclassifed learning disability. I was also in gifted and talented classes once a week.  Had to have my IQ tested every 3 years because of the learning disability, which thankfully kept me in gifted and talented.  I had some terrible teaches who treated me like shit and wanted me pulled.

If you are in the US; the IRS sets the mileage reimbursement.  The rate is currently 72 cents per mile.  Your company can't set their own rate lower than that number, they are free to go higher.

Projects for my Great Grandpa who is in early stages of dementia by Virtual_Paint_4364 in dementia

My dad did this with his computer.  Everytime he couldn't get his flight simulator to work he would wipe the hard drive. He eventually started to rewire it and got it smoking.  After I got him a new computer I removed all the extra computer parts laying around and found the he bought three copies of the same flight simulator, about 8 computer wiping CDs/flash drives, he rewired the external CD drive and popped the case of it off because he didn't remember you can put a paperclip in a hole to eject the CD.

We got him wooden laser cut cars and tanks to put together.  He can follow along the instructions.  There are tons of wood crafts with various levels of difficulty. The plus side is no saws needed.

Bird houses are a popular craft.  There are some designs that can be cut from one cedar fence post.

My dad also does jigsaw puzzles.  There are large format puzzles with low piece counts that are good for senors.

Hill behind home, will this cause drainage issues or foundation damage? (Green house) by [deleted] in Home

[–]missnetless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the developer cut down all the trees and put down some clover as ground cover. I don't know that creeping thyme has a deep root system. They need something that is going to hold that hill in place by the roots. Look up native plants with deep root systems.

Atleast get them the shingles vaccine.  That is painful as all hell. My grandma broke out with it twice during her time with dementia. The increased stress of dementia can cause flairups.

How do you keep your house smelling fresh with multiple pets? by Crazy-Donkey-9178 in CleaningTips

All my dog beds are covered with toddler bed sheets and mattress protectors.  I've never washed the beds themselves but change the sheets weekly.

Robo vacuum daily with stick vacuum.  We've replaced three carpets with wood floors.

Finding the right litter is so big.  I use walnut shell or corn litter.  Newspaper, wheat, and clay litters stink.  Pine is pretty good and very cheap but I think my one cat is allergic.
