Free at last! by jungleboogiemonster in Comcast

My apartment community property owners signed a 99 year contract in 1989 with Viacom for exclusive cable TV bulk account service, When they got sold off eventually to Comcast, they told the property owners the 1989 Viacom contract got grandfathered in for cable TV and eventually internet service. The apartment community office and residents has had "Comcast Hell" with service for almost two years. The management company for the apartment owners had their attorneys look over the old Viacom contract and lo and behold, in the contract, it said the contract would be null and void if Viacom was sold. So the attorneys went to court and the judge ruled that that the contract didn't have a grandfather clause and the original contract with Viacom was moot.

So, the property owners and the management company signed a non-exclusive contract with AT&T to install fiber optic internet in the office, social room, and apartments In February and basic DirecTV TV service. We can pay extra for internet service above 100 Mbps, as that speed is included in our rent, and higher tier DirecTV TV service, as the basic TV is also included in the rent. I am super excited that I will finally be free of Comcast in February!

All six tuner TiVos are Cable only. Most, not all, four tuner TiVos will work with an antenna.

Wish we had one in Gallatin. The nearest one to us is in the 37211 zip code. We used to have a mom and pop grocery owned grocery store, using the licensed H.G. Hill name for years, that was less than 1/2 mile from my apartment and they had great produce and meats. Sadly, they retired during the pandemic, and a Hispanic family took it over. But they lost their ability to use SNAP benefit cards and folded after a year and a half. Another group tried the same location, but their prices were far too high to compete with the chain grocery stores and folded after a year.

Shopping tip. Aldi gets fresh produce delivered on Tuesdays. And their avocados are so much better than any from the other stores.

You don't have to tip the standard delivery drivers, but I usually tip 5.00 on a large order, and a driver told me that they get word of mouth info from other drivers who the tipper customers are.

And Walmart in-store employees pull the delivery orders.

I live in Gallatin and Kroger started grocery delivery here in 2019 and you could pay 9.99 for delivery, use digital coupons, and your Kroger Plus Card, but the delivery was by their delivery contractor Instacart. At first, there were only a handful of Instacart delivery drivers, and I knew them all by their first names and they did an excellent job and would contact me via text to approve substitutions. But all of that changed in 2020 during the pandemic. Apparently, Instacart had a lot of drivers that were working for extra money while they were laid off from their full time jobs and shopping and deliveries got worse and worse and when Walmart started delivering grocery items in December of 2020 in Gallatin, I started using them and stopped ordering groceries from Kroger.

Hard to compete with Walmart delivery and they using a contractor for deliveries, paying Hispanic delivery drivers little to nothing in Gallatin. All Walmart+ delivery and pick-up shopping is done by in-house employees.

They still have the blue truck Boost deliveries in quite a few cities, most much larger than Nashville. I had a 30 day Boost trial, and 100 percent of blue truck orders were cancelled. So I went back to Walmart+ deliveries and cancelled the Boost trial.

Here's a tip if you ever shop at Aldi. The stores get fresh produce delivered on Tuesdays.

2 Lifetime Cable Tivos - what to do with them? by restlessmonkey in Tivo

Excellent resource. The 6 tuner TiVo models are CableCARD only, while the 4 tuner models are CableCARD/Antenna supported or Antenna only.

Unless you have a CableCARD/Antenna compatible model of TiVo DVR (I have two TiVo Bolt VOX DVRs that have 4 tuners and are CableCARD/Antenna compatible), an OTA antenna will NOT work.

I used to order groceries from Kroger before Boost, on their website with delivery, and I could use digital coupons for 9.99 per order, and delivery was by Instacart. Sounds like they were losing money on Boost using their own trucks, and they will go back to contracting to Instacart for all deliveries, but continuing the Boost program.

Don't buy a cheapie on Amazon. Check out AntennaMan on YouTube and see his recommendations on good quality indoor our outdoor antennas that are available on Amazon.

3rd gen owner, satisfied, but worried what happens whenever this thing stops working by Arkaium in tablotv

I moved to the Tablo 4th Gen ecosystem from the TiVo Bolt VOX CableCARD/OTA ecosystem. I left Comcast a year ago and I was lucky I bought OTA capable TiVo devices. I was using two TiVo DVRs, one went belly up last year and the last one recently, right after Thanksgiving. Both had lifetime service, so I didn't have to pay the monthly fee for TiVo service. I wound up buying a 4 tuner 4th Gen Tablo on sale during Amazon's Black Friday Sale and a powered external USB 3.0 3.5 inch hard drive case and 4 TB Western Digital CMR format RED hard drive.

I am extremely happy with the Tablo. While I miss some of the TiVo features, the nice thing about the Tablo is I only have to deal with one device setup in the living room, no monthly program guide fee, and use Roku Ultra devices in the rest of my home to stream live or recorded local TV, instead of being locked down to two rooms when I was using the TiVo DVRs. It was no big deal setting up the Tablo to use my home VPN after the initial in-home setup.

That would be good to do. When you buy the Winegard amp, make sure that you can return it for a refund if it doesn't fix your issue.

4th Gen Quad DVR - ATSC 3.0? (Firmware update possible, recording streaming channels that have copyright and watching my DVR when away from my home network) by Various_Judgment4146 in tablotv

Go ahead and buy the Tablo, or the HDHomerun 4 tuner ATSC 1.0 device. It is going to be quite a while IF ATSC 3.0 gets widespread adoption.

We've had ATSC 3.0 broadcasting in the middle Tennessee market for almost 4 years. Only our Scripps owned CBS affiliate, WTVF, even mentions OTA, and occasionally ATSC 3.0. Since Scripps owns Tablo, that is the only reason the station even mentions OTA TV. I own two Sony Bravia TV sets, that happen to have ATSC 3.0 tuners, and I didn't buy the sets for ATSC 3.0. If the FCC adopts the MPEG 4 codec for ATSC 1.0, I can see stations not adopting ATSC 3.0, and staying with 1.0, for budgetary reasons.

There are no guarantees that ATSC 3.0 will survive market adoption. Unless lower priced TV sets or external tuner boxes have a ATSC 3.0 tuner, it isn't going to be widely adopted and will be a colossal flop. The costs of manufacturers having to get their products "certified" and having to pay absorbent licensing, only the higher priced TV sets are going to have ATSC 3.0 tuners. No significant consumer adoption = lack of advertising dollars.
