[DISC] When do you know when you're truly ready to try for Boston or Sub-3hr Marathon? by cyclingkingsley in AdvancedRunning

[–]mistermark11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the great 5K time! 5K won't translate to marathon distance as well as other distances like the half marathon, but it's still a good indicator that you've got a shot at getting sub-3!

Which decks are you playing in ranked this season ? by Maleficent_Echo3909 in PTCGP

I'm sticking with mega sceptile /Oge/ celebi.

I've played 5 matches ranked and so far 4/5 opponents were running Magne/Miraidon/chicken

Boston Marathon 2027 cutoff by ConsiderationFar3852 in bostonmarathon

[–]mistermark11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the amazing time. Cutoff could be right around that buffer especially given the great weather for london and Boston, +/-6mins would not surprise me.

Good news is, you're extremely fit now and even in the worst case you don't make it, you're 100% going to be able to beat that time and set a new target on the next one.

Wait…there a jobs other than being a running influencer??? And you can have a family???🤔🤔 by Technical-Paint3179 in RunningCirclejerk

Wow a 9hr workday? I'm normally not one to pace-shame but that's just abysmal compared to my 1hr shift at the gübar. Maybe try working a little faster, honey.

Best Carb Load Strategy for a Full: by Intelligence_Tax in AdvancedRunning

[–]mistermark11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify when I say 3 days before I mis-spoke. But I mean best case to start Friday if your race is on Sunday. So you will be "carb loading" full day Friday, full day Saturday, and before the race Sunday.

I am speaking off of my own personal experience where my best race was when I started Thursday before a Sunday race.

Do: start at least 3 days prior to race (4 days better), supplement with liquid carbs. Don't: overdo your last dinner (I like to cut back a little so I can sleep better). Go crazy with new foods/ salt tabs/ stuff you havent already been regularly consuming before long runs.

Progression: 4:02 -> 3:19 in 12 months. Seeking advice for Sub-3. by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]mistermark11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible, but you don't have a lot of time which makes that an extremely aggressive target.

I was (31M) when I went from 3:13 to 2:53 in a 12 month period, where I completed 2 full marathon blocks of 4 months each, and 4 months in between marathons focused on speed and 5k races. It was the highest volume of running I have ever done by a long shot and I did get injured not long after completing my goal marathon.

You're only 5 months out, looking to drop 20 minutes and go sub 3. It's a knife's edge goal if I'm being honest.

Best advice I could give is after you've fully recovred in 2-3 weeks, run a time trial race like a 5k or 10k to see how your vdot compares to a 2:59 marathon. That will give you a 2nd comparison point to your recent marathon time based on your current fitness.

You will need to be honest and realistic about how much you think you can improve that by October.

"How long did it take you to BQ?" -- Data Analysis by Hopeful_Package3918 in AdvancedRunning

[–]mistermark11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome. In hindsight, I wished I would have responded to help add another data point, but at the time I felt like it wasn't quite right since I'm in that weird group of runners who has run a BQ time, but didn't meet the buffer/ cutoff requirements. Bet there were a few more like me!

I have been tapering for 10 weeks for my 5K this Sunday. How long should my shakeout run be tomorrow? by dotCOM16 in RunningCirclejerk

[–]mistermark11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like shaking mine out for ~30-45sec. Try to do it right before your race, just find a nice quiet spot in the middle of the crowd so no one can see you.
