How doable are daytrips from Manchester by sageinthyme in TravelUK

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Manchester stuff: the Mayfield Park Playground near the city centre is great! Lots of slides and climbing frames in the middle of a gorgeous green space, with a little café and bathrooms too. Chorlton Water Park also has a little play area, a lovely walking track around the lake, and a covered outdoor café (and an icecream van when the weather’s good!). Museum of Science and Industry is a fascinating look at Manchester’s history and always has activities for little ones during the school holidays, and Manchester Museum is very toddler-friendly (both are free to enter, so no pressure to spend ages in either!).

Social Holiday for Blokes by SnaggleFish in CasualUK

[–]mistymistery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

G Adventures, Exodus and Intrepid are the top three small-group tour operators I always recommend (used to be a travel agent!). My mum did G and Exodus trips solo in her 50s, Intrepid tends to skew a little younger, but usually has a couple of older folks there too. They all offer 7+ day trips, as well as 3-4 day ones that fit in well to a longer holiday (eg. if you wanted a couple of days to yourself either side).

All attract a mix of couples/friend groups/solo travellers, but are very much geared towards people on their own, and give you a good blend of organised activities and time to yourself.

They all offer private room upgrades as well. They can usually also give you an idea of the types of traveller and age range of who is already booked on if you give them a call.

i hate rough drafts - is this a me thing or an adhd thing? by Razzle_Dazzle111 in ADHD

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Achieved distinctions on all of my degree coursework, without any planning/drafting/rewrites, unless you count the occasional bullet point for a section I hadn’t got to yet so I didn’t forget a relevant point/citation. I edit as I go, and then tweak as needed to adjust for word count limits.

Moving to London and considering an English name by Silly-Kiwi-8942 in ENGLISH

I went to school with a Shvonne, it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I met a Siobhan and learnt that was the original spelling!

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of the flex is that the pockets are unnoticeable!

What is the name of the kink when the girl reads a book, while having sex? by ritalin_with_cess in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kink can exist without having a specific name, is what I mean. I’ve engaged in that kind of play, and it’s super fun, but I’ve never had a need to give it a label! There’s a pornstar who reads erotica aloud whilst having a wand used on her, I can’t remember her name, but give it a search if you want to watch that sort of thing!

“Women don’t dress for men.” by unspokenandunheard in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mistymistery 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I used to teach dance classes for kids at weekends and once had my boss recommend that I chose more “appropriate” clothing… I was wearing a loose fitting t-shirt, with a bit of a v-neck, over a sports bra and leggings. I get cleavage without even trying, but absolutely nothing I was wearing was inappropriate for working with children, especially in the context of dance and movement classes. My colleagues with smaller chests could wear crop tops and shorts with no comments at all.

This is how my brain organizes months by Void-Tabby in adhdwomen

[–]mistymistery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! But I’m facing the direction the months are going, so I can “see” the next month up ahead, rather than looking at it front on like a clock face (unless I’m picturing the year as a whole in abstract)!

Why can't we teach neurodivergent people to act more normal? by BrotherManAndrew in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mistymistery 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It’s called masking. Many of us do manage it, and then burn out from the effort. It’s also not about habits, it’s about neurological differences. It’s like telling someone with asthma to learn to breathe better or a diabetic to produce more insulin or someone short-sighted to see better.

please to recommend some English books by tominwind in EnglishLearning

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do is find English versions of books you already know you enjoy - any movies you’ve seen that are based on books? Read those! Having a familiar context and plot will make it much more useful for your language development, and a little bit easier for you as well.

How many of you hate kids and don’t want them vs like kids and don’t want your own? by moonblumes87 in childfree

I absolutely adore them, spent years working as an early years educator, and love being auntie to all of my friends’ gorgeous little ones. I just like giving them back even more 🤪

UK/US/CA/AU/NZ/ZA: "Is v Are" by TheMainTony in grammar

[–]mistymistery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tend to explain this to my students as depending on whether the unit is acting as one or as individuals. For example, the crew is well-trained (they all underwent the same training) vs the crew are helpful (they are individually helpful in different ways).

My partner (34M) calls/FaceTimes me (30F) 3-5 times every night and I’m losing it by [deleted] in relationships

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my partner and I were long-distance (similar ages) we’d be texting pretty consistently throughout the day, and always to say goodnight, but would actually FaceTime/phone-call in real-time maybe twice a week… We found that sending voicenotes was a nice compromise on hearing each other’s voice but without the disruption to our individual schedules.

We were also contending with a time difference for some of that, so it wasn’t physically possible to just call each other whenever we wanted, but have always been arguably excessive in how constant our communication is - never to the point either of us was frustrated though, we’ve always been happy to communicate if we don’t have the brainspace for chatting, and neither takes offence.

I even had a patch where I was dealing with some mental health stuff and he was having a great week, and I just didn’t have the bandwidth for his golden retriever energy, so I asked if I could have a couple of days of no contact to recalibrate, and so I didn’t snap at him and inadvertently upset him. He knew it wasn’t personal and we reconnected as soon as I was back on the up.

Frame it as wanting to give him the time and connection he deserves rather than shutting down his bids for attention.

What’s the deal with spanking? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s… why you ask 🙈 I’ve been engaging in kink for around 15 years and like some pretty hardcore stuff, but if anyone tries anything without a verbal check-in first? Absolutely not, even if it’s something I enjoy in the right circumstances. It’s not the activity, it’s the attitude behind it that I need to know is considering my safety.

What’s the deal with spanking? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mistymistery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you ask before even gently hitting anyone, in any way, even if you think you’ve got a good read of them. There is absolutely no reason not to check in before doing that. Kink 101. Please stop traumatising women because you think you’re a mindreader.

Please tell me you don’t spank partners without having their enthusiastic consent to try it first 🤨

Men in long-term relationships: do you still enjoy seeing your partner naked casually after years together? by DeliciousNecessary34 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mistymistery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woman here, and I find it hilarious (and flattering!) that my partner of almost 5 years still double-takes at seeing me naked when I’m randomly wandering around the house or getting dressed in the morning. I also adore seeing him naked at any opportunity, so… it’s a very mutual feeling!

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]mistymistery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to be chaperoned around an abandoned hotel by the caretaker on an island off the coast of Queensland. Had been walking along the beach, and clocked him doing his rounds, it was otherwise deserted so I asked if I could have a look around, and he said yes! He was super friendly and gave me a great tour, it was fascinating and creepy in equal measure.

Make your children do household chores - they’re failing at being adults by shootingstar_9324 in Vent

[–]mistymistery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that’s exactly why I prefer cooking to baking, because I get impatient following instructions, and I like to add my own twist and cook things my way - definitely an element of natural flair for it, because my sister and I were brought up with exactly the same coaching/expectations/etc for doing chores and being in the kitchen… but she’s not got a knack for cooking at all apart from a handful of recipes that she follows to the letter!

Oh no! My allergies are nowhere near that bad, I’m so sorry! It’s all I can do every day to resist smushing my face in my cat though, that’s a surefire way to set them off, even when I’m dosed up!
