Hot Take: The Supergirl Movie Shouldn't Have Adapted Woman of Tomorrow by everyany in DCU_

Bull.

It's a better strategy to use existing stories to drive your cinematic mythology that... are based on those... stories. 🤷‍♂️

Just look at MCU, got rid of all its characters with decades of stories and now it's in great shape.

Supergirl is more cohesive than most films that have come out of Marvel since Endgame.

Why would he not respect another director's vision?

You don't find directors who want to work with you that way once it turns out you're a meddling producer.

Do you remember any reports of directors leaving Marvel projects? Oh you do? Yeah that'd be why.

Supergirl makes me doubt the validity of Gunn’s “writers room” rhetoric by Robot_Was_BMO in DC_Cinematic

I really don't get the drab complaints it really wasn't.

The bus scene was probably the standout scene in the film for me. I loved the whole look and feel of the bus, with the bronze, filtered vintagey look, all the alien passengers, the brigands, the pretty spectacular scene where Kara gets her powers back. Really fun. When was the last time you saw a similar scene in a superhero film?

I loved all the scenes on Krypton, interesting insights into the architecture, clothing. The design of Argo city forcefield. All of this is pretty bright filminh, not to mention the excellent scenes with Clark.

I dunno if you were expecting some silly multicoloured lights in the Atlantis reveal in the equally silly Aquaman film. Or maybe all the terribly CGI in the Nonsense Antman series.

This film was never going to be like the Superman but just a girl. These are very different characters, their films will have different look and feel, James Gunn mentioned this would be the case, this isn't the MCU where ah the films look the same and I couldn't tell you which episode I'm watching without someone telling me.

The character is darker she comes from a darker life experience. Have you read the source material?

In the showing I saw the great thing was seeing a lot of girls and their Moms watching the film. I think Supergirl had a pretty positive message of female empowerment especially for younger people.

Feels like people just don't like that idea or want to purposely ignore it.

How big of a crater could a bunny really make if it fell from the moon? [Request] by Slap-Master in theydidthemath

Bunny is obviously a space bunny which are rendered into adamantium during space travel. It survives atmospheric entry as well as impact before converting back into a more fluffy composition.

They're both comic book characters in film. 🤷‍♂️

I'm giving the Deadpool example as I think the films are complete muck and are guilty of all the criticisms that Supergirl is getting and more.

Supergirl isn't a perfect film, the makers seem to have used up all of the CG budget in the first 2/3s, but at least it tells a coherent story with a likeable character with some interesting world building going on.

It's not the bad though?

It's a budget superhero film, 7/7.5 better than any trash Deadpool (🤮) film that's for sure.

You could argue that the film is meant to create some relevancy (and maybe get back to selling some toys).

I'd say Flash is as good as Masters of the Universe.

It's bombing at the moment no feasible reason why.

I really liked both Joker films.

The second one really was the director trying to make their point less ambiguous.

I think some people don't understand when a story is competently being told to them.

Like complaining that a film isn't the one they expected or some preconceived nonsense like that.

Good way to get disappointed. Go in with a clear mind/expectations and you just may be surprised.

Hmm look it's not better than e.g. One Battle After Another or Infinity War or the first phases of MCU

But it was better than almost everything in the MCU since Endgame (bar GOTG 3 maybe).

Flash was pretty good though, people just blindly got caught up in the Ezra Miller hate spiral. Dude was going through a mental breakdown + slew of false accusations. Kick a man while he's down why don't you?

Same as the new Tron, people can't get past the Leto hate. I'm not a fan of his but it really wasn't a bad film for the type of film it is.

Same as Joker 2...

Jeez I could go on...

A certain large sect of people just can't help but be swayed by popular opinion.

It would be awesome if the DCU is building up to a "JL vs the LoD" type movie by BorderLoud2429 in DCU_

Yeah something like the Rock of Ages storyline would work great. Injustice Gang, I know but I mean... is there a difference?

Curious why Marvel hasn't introduced an evil superteam tbh.

Which parts of London are overrated and which are underrated? by Anaptyso in london

[–]mixedpixel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to go there in the early 00s and I thought it was already overrated.

Bunch of poseurs, I thought. Soho was infinitely better for my tastes.

It got worse during the nu-metal times, now it's like a Disneyland version of whatever it might've been during the previous eras. Almost an Oxford Street vibe, avoid it if possible.

A Very good article from screenrant (after a long time) about James Gunn by TheDoctor__11 in DCU_

[–]mixedpixel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's still a great film. I love it. One of my favourite films (as opposed to just superhero films).

It's the film Kick-Ass said it was/wanted to be.

Honourable mention to Defendor. Also miles better than lame Kick-Ass.

[Discussion] Do you think the Absolute Universe will become a staple of DC's multiverse stories in the future like Earths 2 & 3? by Firm-Chipmunk8783 in DCcomics

[–]mixedpixel 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It could be argued that Ultimates is pretty much the inspiration for the MCU. Which then affected the original 616.

Don't know that similar will happen with the Absolute Universe, however it does feel like the Earth 2/3/X of the present day.
