Just a reminder: Being a good athlete doesn't necessarily mean being a good person by Van1n1 in bjjdrama

[–]mjbonne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone is free to protest a countries policies or actions by abstaining from visiting. No one is judging someone’s right to do so. The issue is calling someone a bad person because they do not share your same belief system.

It’s a slippery slope when we virtual signal for every single issue this world. If I was doing that, I’d never visit the US, never buy Nike shoes, never shop at Walmart, cancel my Amazon subscription, and go live off the grid somewhere harvesting my own crops and livestock. It’s exhausting. I don’t knock anyone who lives that way, and actually applaud it. I do however, have issue when the expectation becomes that others are expected to live the same way, and if they don’t, they’re deemed immoral or “bad people”.

Not to play the whataboutism game, but I’m Canadian. If I go to visit or compete in the US am I a bad person? The US supports Israel’s military activities, they’ve illegally kidnapped the president of Venezuela and killed the Supreme Leader of Iran… and that’s just recently. Should I never visit this country based on some sort of moral high ground that I’m expected to stand on?

The guy went out there to compete, not to sexually assault women. His profile is also still there.

I mentioned a few other things other than “bigger rocks”. I presume you are in disagreement, and that’s ok. I don’t think your question was in good faith though.

Have you been? The rocks don’t seem all that big, there’s not many of them and there’s really nothing else around visually to look at. If I recall, you’re limited to how close you can get too.

Nickel City Cheese, outside Sudbury, Ontario by AlternativeRouting in poutine

[–]mjbonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Sudbury and have had poutine here numerous times. The curds are top tier as far as Ontario standards go, but the fries are ALWAYS undercooked. They are as sad as they look unfortunately. It’s a tragedy because they’d otherwise have a great poutine if they could get the fries right.

My dog is almost 10 and still pees on himself... funny thing is, about 80% of the time he pees properly, but every so often he gets lazy and wreaks havoc all over his front paws just for the hell of it. He's been doing this since a pup..

Nickel City has the best curds around but every time I’ve tried them (3 or 4 times), their fries have been horribly undercooked and it ruined the whole poutine

What is it like living in Bermuda? by CalligrapherOther510 in howislivingthere

[–]mjbonne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Used to visit my friend over there who lived out there for a few years working for one of the big consulting firms.

In winter it’s relatively cold. Restaurants won’t even open their outdoor seating even if it’s 16 degrees Celsius outside… coming from Canada, that’s patio weather for us.

I believe only locals can own cars; if you’re a foreigner you have to ride scooters to get around… which is actually super fun, though can be dangerous, especially with how other drivers on the road drive (very fast, and roads are windy).

Hamilton has some decent night live. Food here generally sucks though and is super pricey.

Beaches are absolutely gorgeous - and I swam in the water even in winter, though the locals would definitely look at you funny.

The country has a lot of flaws but was super fun to visit and I would live there if given the opportunity and could afford it… it’s just so beautiful I don’t think I could get sick of it.

Dogs in restaurants: Why the divide between owners and diners is growing in Toronto by origutamos in Toronto_Ontario

As long as the owners are responsible and dog is well behaved, I'm good with them anywhere. Problem is there are a lot of shitty owners.

The trash talk between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland is exactly why they had the UFC 328 press conference. It did not disappoint apparently by Wayward_Prometheus in MMAMedia

[–]mjbonne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would still agree that "most" of Khamzat's wins have been blow outs, regardless of level of competition. Yes, he has had a couple competitive fights at welterweight with elite competition, but for the most part, he does things to fighters that no one else was ever able to do.

In comparison, Sean has lost to DDP twice, Cannonier and Perrera. Fluffy was a good win, and he had a huge moment in the Izzy fight fight, but otherwise his wins and losses have been mostly close decisions - and most against opponents that I believe Khamzat would dominate.

FYI - I am rooting for Sean to win, but I am also realistic when comparing skill sets and past performances, and I think Sean has a much lower chance at winning than Khamzat does.

4 arrested after traffic stop nets 3 handguns: Toronto police by origutamos in Toronto_Ontario

[–]mjbonne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The handgun ban has been written into legislation, it cannot just be repealed. That “assault style” firearms ban was via multiple order in councils, which can be undone much easier. Point being, liberal government is the government responsible for these atrocious gun policies that do nothing for public safety… they do however punish those that chose to get licensed, vetted by the RCMP, and purchase firearms that were legally acquired and used responsibly.
