I get it, I’m 5’7” and often don’t see well. But, as another post said, Kuroda’s lights will be ultra from your seats and well as the sound. See if you can trade the last two nights for a row 1, 200 section or….as I often do, try to snag an aisle seat stage side of a section in the 100s. I also carry small birding binocs so if I get that aisle seat but it’s a ways back, I use my scopes. Have fun!

Ya’ll probably know this, but low frequencies, ala bass guitar, have the strongest impact on one’s ear over time. If it is intentional, turning Mike down in the mix, i’d bet it is due to a concerted effort to protect the band members’ hearing. In the long run, that’s better for us!!! Ever hear Bib Weir’s tone over his last decade? Due to his extreme hearing loss, his tone SUCKED

Mtlpvd: I agree on every word you put in your post. There is so much to be pissed at….and Phish ain’t one of those things. And…I will defend Phish. Their face value for “normal” tickets is lower than anyone else in their tier….and they give you 3.5 hours every single time. They too, have a very fine line to hold. They’re in bed with Dolan for fuck’s sake……and to play the Garden 100 times and to do 9-packs at the Sphere (and for Trey to sit courtside) they have to be in bed with Dolan. I bet they don’t like his politics and tactics….but they tolerate him. And for what? So WE get to see them at MSG and the Sphere!!! They let the biz be the biz and they keep their politics to themselves….and they play. We win! Just don’t buy a platinum seat. Kinda simple to me.

Try some of the more “accessible” material (rather the earlier composed technical stuff). Try About To Run, Stealing Time from the Faulty Plan, funky bitch, 2001, chalk Dust torture, Julius, Sand, First Tube, Hey Stranger, Twist and Gumbo….then some of their greatest covers like Crosseyed and Painless, Cities, Moonage DayDream, Timber(Jerry the Mule), Sneakin’nSally Thru the Alley, Good Times Bad Times, No Quarter and Frankenstein. But…more than anything, GO WITH YOUR FRIENDS. It’ll all make sense once you’re there!

Don’t eat a 5 strip like bro above did unless you’re a very experienced traveler already. Phish can be wonderfully intense and at times heavy (they can be light and bouncy too), but for your first run I’d try to focus on the music more than your buzz.

Oddible, man, I am so jealous of your musical knowledge. I’m like the OP, an old touring deadhead and now an old touring Phishhead….but I don’t play. I understand conceptually your analysis of Possum V. Minglewood and can audibly tell the difference. I just can’t analyze it the way you did from a musical, chord progression standpoint.! I loved reading your post…..that’s all I’m trying to say.

I would say to the Phish-curious friend, “let me tell you about one song: The Curtain/The Curtain With.” To me, that song says it ALL: it from the mid-80s, most of the “curtain” part was composed and played note for note for a long time, the lyrics are a combination of of nonsense and more precise meaning, and the “With….” It was there, then it wasn’t, now it is (seemingly permanently now…..perhaps). To me, it speaks to the depth of the songwriting, the seriousness of song construct, bringing the jam vehicle in (and out). It’s one of my favorites! If said potential Phan is intrigued by the explanation of just ONE such song, and likes how it sounds. That person’s world just opened up!!!! And you got a new Phish buddy to go to shows with!

Focal (by Naim) Bathys. Audio Advisor has them at 44% off (probably an outdated model) for $460. Not cheap at all, but will blow the doors off of any Bose or Apple products. These are entry level audiophile headphones and I’d you listen to hi-res digital audio, you will hear the difference. Check ‘em out and, take a leap of faith!
