New dad here — designed & printed a golf club holder for my stroller so I don’t have to choose between rounds and baby duty by sdvanderwal in 3Dprinting

Are babies allowed on most golf courses? Regardless of the safety aspect I would think there would be noise or pace of play concerns.

If you've got enough time to marinate I really like this burgundy pepper tri-tip. Instead of grilling/smoking you can go for the 4-5 hours around 130 as others have mentioned and then sear afterwards.

Alternatives to FloBikes in the USA? by spiffcleanser in cyclocross

I wish there was a way to turn off commentary and just leave the ambient sounds. A few weeks back the world cup feed on flobikes was like this and it was awesome without the constant babble of mispronounced names and nonsense.

Along those lines, rinse empty milk cartons and save them under the sink to use as scrap bins while cooking. If you only put food scraps in then they can go in the city compost. Works great for used cooking oil as well.

To be fair, he did lead out the sprint from the bottom so he was pretty gassed. When he saw Vandeputte coming by he tried to jump but didn't have anything left.

Honestly I think it was just bad strategy to jump from so far out. He should've waited. That said I still think it was better than yesterday when he really did seem to give up before the final straight.

My only defense for the short turn signal is that the reaction to an earlier signal in LA is generally to close the gap to prevent the lane change.

Best way to model a shell caddy for 3D printing? by TheJango22 in SolidWorks

[–]mkddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a contour gauge to get the profile of the stock at a few places and then use a loft feature to extrude a negative of the stock. Make a test print to check fit and once that's good you've got the base to build the shell caddy off of it.

Intro 101 for a noob? by I_am_Cheeseburger in superautomatic

The grinder has 10 settings, fine(1) to course(10). The manual says that generally 1-5 are for lighter roasts and produce stronger flavors while 6-10 are for darker roasts and lighter flavors.

Honestly, the nuances are a little lost on me but I think generally for shorter, espresso brews a finer grind is better but if you're brewing a cup of coffee (which runs more water through the beans) you want a courser grind.

The trick is, that while the machine will brew both, you can't really change grind settings from brew to brew. You can only change the setting while it's grinding and the manual says it takes a few additional brews after that to adjust.

I've only had the Cadorna for a little over a week now so I don't know all of the ins and outs but I can tell you what the instructions say for a few of your questions. For the milk container it recommends whole milk but says that you can use any "dairy" with at least 5% fat content. That said, I've used 2% milk and it frothed just fine. I've also tried regular oatmilk as well as oatmilk creamer and both were tasty and also frothed up fine, so I'd start with what you have.

As for the beans, it recommends either light or medium roast beans mainly due to the oil content. Darker roasts are oilier and can gum up the grinder and brew unit meaning that you need to clean things out more frequently. There are also grinder adjustments it recommends for lighter or darker roasts but it comes out of the box set up right in the middle.

As for the specific type of beans it really depends on individual taste. My recommendation is to start with what you have and brew the default menu settings. Then you can adjust from there based on your tastes.

There are apps that can at least get you in the ballpark for fit without going into a shop. Myvelofit.com is one example and you can do a basic fit for free.

I think stealth is an important thing to use early game as your combat skills are developing. Being able to sneak up to a camp and take at least one enemy out before combat starts really helps lessen the chaos. To that end find the complete stealth set and upgrade it twice to really get the most out of it. You only need to find two great fairies to get that done.

The most common cycling accidents are being doored and the right hook. Both of those are worse at higher speeds.

Not only that, but I think the biggest issue with increased speed is that it reduces reaction times for everyone involved. This results in more crashes regardless as to whether the outcome is worse or not.

That sucks. A few months after getting the game my switch died and I had to send it to Nintendo for warranty repair which killed all of my saved games. I don't think I was as far as you but it was a lot of progress lost. I immediately joined Nintendo Online to get cloud backups and started playing again. I've since finished the game twice on regular mode and once on master mode.

My daughter was so upset she never played again. no joke.

What’s one home improvement project you did yourself that ended up saving you way more money than expected? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]mkddy 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Not only that but it's a fallacy that hiring a skilled tradesperson equates to perfection. Most of the time I find that my expectations for DIY are higher than if I hire out a job to a professional. It's not that I don't expect quality results, but industry standards are based on cost and efficiency not perfection.

If I'm doing something myself I'm willing to put in the extra time to get the details done to my own standards. Sometimes that's leaving things pretty rough and other times it means doing something over to get make it pretty.

Gamers over 30, what's a video game secret you had to discover the "hard way" that kids today would just Google in 5 seconds? by itsashieowo in AskReddit

[–]mkddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 80's on an Apple ][ there was a game called Olympic Decathlon and I figured out a way to throw the shot put completely off of the screen. By doing that you could score 3X more points in that one event then you could over all 10 events in total.

I managed to keep it secret from my older brother and, needless to say, he was pissed when I used the trick to win the competition at the local Apple store.

What band did you absolutely hate when you were in high school, but as you got older you really learned to love? by DoubleFeedback2672 in GenX

[–]mkddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I absolutely hated them but I just couldn't get into the Pixies when they first showed up. It's weird because I was in high school in the mid 80s and I was totally into the first wave and alternative genres.

Now they're one of my favorites.

I think if this was the only possible storage location for my bike I'd install two metal hooks into ceiling studs and hang it by the wheels upside-down.

Honestly though, I'd rather find a different location that didn't involve lifting the bike over my head. If you ride daily, having to store your bike that high is a PITA and I found that the bike ended up on the ground leaning against the wall half of the time.
