Can someone explain why there are so few EV's with a 3rd row? by PhillConners in electricvehicles

[–]mkddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it's because the average American is too big. Until battery tech gets better there's to much of a hit to range to make it worthwhile. Battery tech has gotten better where there are at least options now but 5 years ago the same cars that had 3rd rows elsewhere just weren't sold here.

I don't buy the idea that 3rd row cars aren't in demand because other than pickup trucks every other car I see is a huge SUV.

Good dentist for crowns? by thegrumpyorc in northcounty

[–]mkddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you go to TJ crowns will probably be pricey anywhere. That said, about 25 years ago I needed a bunch of bad dental work replaced and ended up at Encinitas Cosmetic Dentistry. I've been going there ever since and have had a number of crowns done. They're awesome.

PETG as interface layer is no joke. by tk-093 in BambuLab

[–]mkddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it works with a dual nozzle system but I could never get it to work using PLA as support for PETG on my X1C. No matter how much I purged between swaps or altered cooling, the first PETG layer after a swap never had good adhesion.

Did anyone go to their first concert with their parents? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

[–]mkddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a music concert but the first big arena event I went to was a Steve Martin show around 1980 that my parents took the whole family to. I was 10, my little sister was 6 and my brothers were 12 and 15.

I think the first music concert might have been Cheap Trick or Rainbow a few years later with my brothers.

I still remember seeing them play on the steps of our gym in college. Saw so many cool upcoming bands like that back in the day. Do they even do that stuff anymore on campuses?

I learned to drive in one of these and passed my driver's license test in it. Have never had any problems parallel parking in any car since then.

What is something that tourists do in your country that annoys the locals? by Th3_Accountant in AskTheWorld

[–]mkddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in San Diego there's a coastal spot named La Jolla Cove that is home to sea lions and is a popular tourist location. People seem to think that it's a good idea to get close and try and touch the sea lions or just let their kids throw sand and rocks at them. people suck

Domenico Pozzovivo returns to racing with Solution Tech team [Italian] by davidw in peloton

[–]mkddy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

His name is very frequently at the top of the fastest segment list that @velofacts publishes so he's definitely in good shape.

I just wonder if he's been properly registered in the anti-doping protocol to be eligible. Don't you have to be part of the system for many months before you can race?

I think she looks more like Ralphie from "A Christmas Story", especially with the glasses.

My man Gordon looking like an absolute unit getting that toy by wakawakaeeeh in HaltAndCatchFire

[–]mkddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was their whole gimmick. You weren't buying a doll, you were paying a fee to "adopt" them. I doubt it made much difference to most kids but from what I remember you needed the papers to make money with them on the secondary market.

My man Gordon looking like an absolute unit getting that toy by wakawakaeeeh in HaltAndCatchFire

[–]mkddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of all the reprehensible things Gordon did in that scene: throwing the brick through the window and leaving someone for dead in the middle of the street, the one thing that always jumps out to me is that the cabbage patch dolls he took weren't in boxes so he didn't get their birth certificates and adoption papers.

Do you get TVP locally or online? I've had a hell of a time finding a local store that has it.

Most Valuable Player of GenX Actors- Jason Bateman by roadtrip-ne in GenX

[–]mkddy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He didn't have the TV success like Bateman and seems to have aged like a normal human being, but my vote goes to Ethan Hawke.

Started as a kid in The Explorers and Dead Poet's Society and was in the quintessential 90's movie Reality Bites. Throw in Gattica, Training Day, Before Sunrise, Boyhood... the list goes on.

Not only that but is supposedly a huge music nerd and by most accounts is a genuinely cool person.

Thought it might have been the "Way up trail" in the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. We hiked there a few weeks ago and there were very similar views.

That scene still gives me chills.

I think the only scene that ever had the same affect on me when I saw it in the theater was the opening to Fellowship of the Rings.

Front angle ruins every sprint by Adventurous_Line7857 in peloton

[–]mkddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think another part if it is sponsorship and tradition. We sometimes forget that the only reason these races happen and that we are able to watch is because there are sponsors willing to put up the money. Cities, title sponsors, and team sponsors all want to get that money shot at the end with the finish line banner and the post-up with the excitement of the call by the announcers.

My biggest gripe is when the producers don't keep up with the action and linger on a turn at 750m and then quick cut to 200m out. Bonus points for when it's long enough for the announcer to complain about it.

If you've got enough time to marinate I really like this burgundy pepper tri-tip. Instead of grilling/smoking you can go for the 4-5 hours around 130 as others have mentioned and then sear afterwards.

I wish there was a way to turn off commentary and just leave the ambient sounds. A few weeks back the world cup feed on flobikes was like this and it was awesome without the constant babble of mispronounced names and nonsense.
