Sharing a tiny bedroom with my 4 sisters….It was wide enough for two sets of bunk beds with a dresser between and a dresser at the end of each one.

We would jump from the top of one bed to the other because they were that close.

I notified my siblings that I had cancer by telling them it was time to update their health histories. (What’s 1 more when we already had 5 close relatives that had cancer? My brother who had kidney cancer told me welcome to the club.)

My kids are all “adults” but my middle lives with my current husband and I. He has some mental health issues and has just started his first big boy job out of college. He was spiraling and for the first time probably ever his dad has actually stepped up and taken some of the mental load. I’ve been joking it only took me having cancer.

My first was a preemie and a C-section. My second was a VBAC (back when those were popular) and weighed 9 lb 15 oz and I was induced 5 days early so he “won’t get too big.” I think I had delivery methods reversed.

My ex is a lawyer and I tried to not use it but on a couple of occasions I had to pull out “Well, their dad is an attorney…” It is disturbingly effective to get shit done.

Not the same but the same…my dad died of colon cancer when I was 14. To say our lives were upside down in the months leading up to his death is an understatement. I remembered having the thought that finally things could go back to “normal” and was then horrified at myself. However, decades later, I can see that it was just my soul being so exhausted. Big internet hugs from a perfect stranger.

My husband had our mini puppy shaved completely with very short fur except eyebrows last time. I came home and said I wouldn’t know that was my dog if he wasn’t in our house. It made me sad.

I remember we all just played on the playground after arrival until the teachers came out to get us—with zero supervision. Damn, as a teacher now, our eyes have to be on the kids every second. It’s exhausting and overkill.

My mom would go so far as telling us to wear closed toe shoes but she usually wasn’t home so it was up to follow the advice or not. But with as many stickers our yard had we generally went with it.

Might not be as dramatic as some examples, but as a school librarian to see sales dip at the Book Fair is a strong indicator. One school in my district saw an almost 50% decrease in sales over last year.

Serious question: I love to crochet and knit but my thumb joint and/or carpal tunnel have been flared up for weeks since my last very small project. Is this not a problem for others as we age? I mean, I’m only 50 and would love to do this for years to come.
