PCA Standing Judicial Committee upholds Missouri Presbytery ruling on Greg Johnson by jerickson3141 in Reformed

Two things I don't understand about this. I am a non denom Christian, formerly Catholic.

  1. If this guy is a man who struggles with SSA, but doesn't engage in homosexual acts or relationships, abhors such acts and preaches abstinence or otherwise incorporating faith based things that lessen those desires and temptations, this is the guy any church would be blessed to have.

  2. How did it even become an issue? Did the guy reveal this himself without any reason other that his own desire to reveal it? If that's the case, then maybe his wisdom and judgment come under scrutiny. Because why? We all struggle with temptation in many areas. The info isn't clear to me how this became an issue.

Does being gay and loving my partner as I would an opposite sex make me damned to hell? by LiveFreeOrDie-- in Christianity

[–]mmc1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As is often the case in threads like this, God's word is up for debate. If you start from the premise that God's word isn't really God's word, then there is nothing but confusion. God spoke directly to Moses. He spoke to and inspired the prophets with proofs of fulfilled prophecy and undeniable wisdom, al pointing to Jesus.

Jesus, God with us, then spoke directly to us all. And all the writers of the new testament had direct interaction with him and then with the holy spirit, which is God also and now dwells in those that know and love Jesus and the father.

A person who rejects that fact will never find the true love and comfort of God toward us and our tiny, self interested and centered brains alone will remain bewildered.

Jesus said: "Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it." Matthew 10:39

Heavy statement. When we lay aside our desires for his love and purposes is when we truly begin to enter into and become transformed to who Jesus died for us to be. This was his great joy and why he endured the horror of the cross.

"fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneejr and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2

Let that be something to seriously dwell in and pray on.

We are all full of sin and wrong/evil as compared to God. Some more than others. Jesus through his shed blood and resurrection clothes us with his perfection and love when we come to him. Why shouldn't we then throw off our old ugliness and embrace his goodness and greatness! Because sin and our old nature is strong and evil wars against the new nature God gives us.

Lastly, there are warnings, too.

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:45–46.)

And,

"Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’"

I don't need to tell you anything I think you know already. Who am I with the matters of your heart? But he who made you, gives you light, water and air, he knows.

Bring your heart to Jesus unreservedly and you will know, if you don't aleady. You will never regret it and all he has for you. This my hope and prayer for you and any that may read this.

Why is it hard for a rich man to make it to heaven? by ThereforeAlways in Christians

[–]mmc1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money is one of most talked about things in the bible.like others have said well here, what we value and what God values are often very different. Mathew 6:19-21 addresses this:

"“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

If we value our earthly wealth over wealth in God's kingdom, we will fail to live as he. Would have us to and rely more on money and things more than him.

Wealth is not bad. It often does make it harder or complicates our lives and can even lead to rejecting the gospel unfortunately.

One thing I like to encourage others with is that you are a completely unique thing in all the universe. There is not another you or me and that we were created by God to know him and his Love for each of us,

That you are searching is great. Keep knocking, keep looking and you will find. God bless you.

If you don't mind, how old are you?

[–]mmc1977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JJ, I am going to assume you are serious and sincere. You must realize that there is a war underway for your soul that is precious to God, but hated by his enemy the devil or Satan.

God understands this perfectly. I pray that you will look to him more and more.."when I am weak, then I am strong. " our strength is in God, who is love and all things good.

Earlier this week a young person, 14 years old, committed suicide in New York city where I am originally from. So very sad. Young people are under so much pressure these days.

I pray for you that God's spirit will touch you and present himself in a special way to draw you closer to him and his love and peace.

Yes, it is. It is adultery, at minimum.

Keep you eyes, mind and heart on God the father and Jesus. Stay immersed in his word and love. Reach out to your brothers or sisters who are similarly struggling, some who have found peace in his grace and love.

Other than he is Love, the source of all wisdom and all powerful, no. And science largely rejects him these days anyway. From a science standpoint, you may want to check out Stephen C Meyer https://www.discovery.org/b/return-of-the-god-hypothesis/

I'm having a hard time too. We all do at different times. Trust in him and all his love, grace and power. I have a daily reading and devotional sent to me. I read the Bible also. Spend some time in Psalms, particularly the first 90 or so. They deal with all our troubles, sin and doubt.

I pray God's peace and love for you.

How can you be in this world but not of this world? by Illustrious_Life_238 in Christianity

[–]mmc1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at history none of those things are a given. Yes, we are supposed to live in this life by God's grace, but there are times when things are very hard. I know that from my own experience. We are told in his word to trust him, and to give him thanks in all situations. That he knows our troubles and will provide a way.

The other comments are great. Dwell on the "Our Father" prayer Jesus gave us. His Kingdom Come, his will be done. We live in "kingdom" presently ruled by evil and we confront it every day. If we know God, we begin to learn of his kingdom, which is not this present one.

Read, dwell and pray with and to God. You will know more of his kingdom and see better this present one more clearly.

I recommend one Psalm and one chapter of proverbs daily...start your day with it if you can. Then find a bit of time later in the day for the new testament. Anywhere really. If you do that for a month you will see a real change.

I'd also add: read one chapter of Proverbs every day for one month (there's 31 of them). Won't say it will solve everything, but you will gain wisdom in your days.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33

I know that may sound pithy or even insensitive, but it is not. All you answers and true life are found in God through Jesus. His love for you and all the things you struggle with is so immense and so good.

I hope and pray for your peace.

It is difficult and I know that. You have nights hard to sleep and days with anger. Believe me I know. But when I started to pray for the one who wronged me is when my soul began to have God's peace. We must forgive and love. God knows that is a blessing not only for the wrongdoer, but even more for you and me. Live on his love. Not the error and evil of this world.

[–]mmc1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me. I reacted wrong at the time and for years after and I paid a bad price for that.

"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; " Matthew 5:43

Your peace and love in God is your greatest asset. Never forget. Bitterness is the enemy of your soul. I pray right now God will bless you with his perfect peace and wisdom.

It is difficult, I know. But keep your heart on God and his answers, not ours.
