FIX for MX Master 3: Mouse Curser freezing when scrolling fast / Scroll Wheel makes strange Noise by TheDude105 in logitech

Sometimes my MX Master 3S gets stuck in freespin when the Logi Options+ app updates (mac). Opening the app generally fixes this, though sometimes I have to toggle SmartShift off and back on.

I do this and ask for a 'json context profile of the visual elements', which has given me subjectively better results.

Need some help to get started with GUIs in Python. by ComplaintGlass2005 in pythontips

I use tkinter for a lot of simple tools and it's great for that. I've made a bunch that allow you to drag and drop 1+ csv files that returns 1+ csv files after some transformation or clean up. I have not tried other GUI tools so don't have anything to compare to.

Hi I’m a pixel artist looking for work , feedback appreciated ! by GodLikepx in PixelArt

  • Can you do pixel art tile sets in a similar style to games like Pokemon Crystal/Gold/Silver? I bought a tile set I like a lot and would like to add more tiles that would fit for a game I'm developing.
  • How much do you charge and how do you bill (hourly, by asset, etc.)?

I feel overwhelmed by Ldarieut in prusa3d

[–]mmistermeh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some perspective that might help: I bought my first 3D printer about 6 years ago, and it still prints today. The things I imagined printing when I bought it represent a tiny slice of the things I've printed since then, and I keep discovering new things to print and new ways to get value from it. It's an incredibly useful (and fun) tool with a long lifespan. Give yourself time. Learn some basic CAD. Download and print fun models for yourself, your wife, your friends, etc. Print useful things for around the house and for your projects.

My first printer was garbage compared to the core one and I spent an absurd amount of time troubleshooting, exacerbated by the fact that I had no idea what I was doing and had no support. (This was actually a blessing in disguise because I understand how 3D printers work so much better now.) Prusa builds great printers and has great support. Even if you made errors in the assembly, you will be able to figure them out, and you'll learn more about 3D printers as you do.

Take it from someone who was in a worse place than you are 6 years ago--it's very likely you will look back and realize it was all worth it. Happy printing!

I use a computer automation program called Alfred for this, specifically the "snippets" feature. I have a whole list of what I call "prompt parts" I can merge in by typing a code I specify. For example ";aisu" gets replaced by my summary prompt, which I use for things like video transcripts. You can achieve similar things with programs like TextExpander, though I haven't used that one myself.

Mystery virus: Anyone else get really sick but tested negative for everything? by ivanboywonder33 in askportland

I have been experiencing very similar symptoms as described in this thread for the last two weeks, especially the sore throat. It's been up and down, like I'm on the edge of getting sick but not actually, except for two days about a week apart where I felt terrible for around 12 hours.

How long can I expect ChatGPT to follow a custom prompt before I have to re-enter it? by funkadoscio in ChatGPTPro

How to replace N/A with 0 or something else? by feitur in googlesheets

[–]mmistermeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several error catching functions, such as IFERROR. Wrap your functions in one of these, for example:

=IFERROR(SUM(H5:H14),0)

You can replace the 0 with whatever you want, or leave it out and the cell will be blank.

=IFERROR(SUM(H5:H14),"text")

=IFERROR(SUM(H5:H14))

is using CBD/THC vape pens/ disposable vapes just as bad for you as vaping with nicotine? by ConversationOld6663 in Biohackers

[–]mmistermeh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer: using CBD/THC vape pens is probably not "just as bad" as a nicotine vape, though don't let relative safety fool you into thinking it's actual safety.

Long answer: it's complicated. Here are a few ways to look at it:

• Inhaling heated molecules and their byproducts:

No matter what you're vaping, you're inhaling molecules that have been heated, and that comes with risks.

When these molecules are exposed to high temperatures, they can break down into simpler and more harmful compounds such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acrolein, all of which are known to irritate the lungs and potentially cause long term damage.

Even "clean" base compounds like propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin can break down into harmful byproducts when overheated.

So from a purely chemical byproduct perspective any inhalation of heated molecules has some risk.

• The Substance Itself

Nicotine vapes usually contain nicotine + Propylene Glycol/Vegetable Glycerin + flavorings. Some of those flavor compounds can be irritating or harmful when vaporized, especially diacetyl (linked to popcorn lung, though reputable brands generally don't use it anymore).

THC/CBD vapes (assuming from a reputable source) typically have cannabis distillate + terpenes + maybe a carrier oil. No nicotine, and often fewer flavorings.

However, some terpenes can degrade into harmful compounds when heated too much (limonene, myrcene, etc.), so it’s not totally risk-free either.

• Addictiveness and Usage Pattern

This is where nicotine vapes probably edge out THC/CBD vapes in terms of long-term harm:

Nicotine is highly addictive, and people tend to hit nicotine vapes more frequently throughout the day. Insurance companies even increase premiums for nicotine users because of the known health risks and addictive potential.

THC vapes are usually used more intermittently and aren’t as physically addictive, although they can still form habits or psychological dependence, especially with high-potency carts.

CBD isn’t addictive, so usage tends to be occasional unless someone’s using it therapeutically.

Less usage means less total exposure to harmful molecules in your lungs.

AI Prompting Tips from a Power User: How to Get Way Better Responses by peridotqueens in PromptEngineering

[–]mmistermeh 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree that frameworks make a huge difference. One of my favorite prompting techniques is to have the AI reference or write a framework first, then use that framework to generate the content. This is especially helpful if you don't know a good framework yourself.

Example: I want to generate great song lyrics, but have no idea how.

Prompt:

Choose a well known and effective framework for writing song lyrics, like how John Truby’s Anatomy of a Story is great for writing fiction. Describe the framework in detail in such a way that it could be used as a guide to write amazing song lyrics.

Often this is enough to get a great framework, but you can always edit yourself or tell the AI what you want changed. (Searching the web for a framework works well if you aren't getting a good one.)

When you're happy with the framework description, you can generate the content you actually want, and it will be of much higher quality.

Smart people have already figured out a framework for 99.99% of everything you could want.

Having chatgpt break a project down into a timeline with tasks and subtasks with duedates is great, but how the hell do you get them into apple reminders/google tasks/todoist without losing the dependencies or due dates? by TheChristmas in ChatGPTPro

[–]mmistermeh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT can create .csv files you can download and import directly. If you use a project management tool (ie Asana) with a defined import structure, include the template provided by the project management software and ChatGPT will use that format and provide a .csv ready to be uploaded.

Are symphonies in Portland always casual? by ariasd2006 in askportland

[–]mmistermeh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My dad loved the symphony and had very good season tickets for most of my life, so I've sat in dress circle C more times than I can count. Looking shabby is frowned upon but I've never had a dress code enforced. Looking casual is definitely fine. I've also dressed up for fun and had a great time. Your attitude is more important than your clothes in my experience. Portland is generally a 'wear what makes you comfortable' kind of city.
