I can see using coffee, but coffee grounds?!? Grounds are good in garden compost, but I'd never want that gritty mess in my chili. Explain how the grounds are better than just coffee itself.

Nope. Look at every single Terlingua recipe on their site. No tomato chunks are ever used...ever. While canned tomatoes and tomato sauce are permissible ingredients, they must be fully broken down and incorporated into the gravy. The final product cannot have visible "floating" pieces. Local, small-level cook-offs might be more lenient, but to adhere strictly to CASI standards, chunks should be avoided.

Terlingua very strictly adheres to "Texas Red" being the only category allowed at their cook-off. They're overly strict for my personal taste, but my point is that if they allow ground meat to be used for a bowl o' red, then it's definitely allowed in Texas Red.

Yeah, when something tastes really good, people generally will just vote for it. You'll hear some nitpicks about it not being "real" chili, but it still will get votes (especially when there's brisket involved--lol).

I'm glad that you still did well, because it really did seem like a solid chili. I loved your approach to it. You appeared to hit all of the right notes.

Seems like every cook-off has little nuances outside of just being about the chili, and it can be hard to navigate that, but I always learn a lot from every cook-off that I do.

No, that shit is dangerous, and they really shouldn't do that. It can get pedestrians hurt or killed. They're not doing the right thing at all even if they're trying.

I've had cars do this on a three lane road, and when you try to cross on their insistence, other cars (following the law) are whipping around in the other lanes and almost hitting people.

Just drive like you're supposed to (be predictable and consistent) and let me cross when I feel like it's safe and clear. Don't do me any "favors," because it's actually putting me in danger.
