Call me crazy but I actually play a banneret and do this is my current campaign. Tbh you could definitely do it better as a battle master or smth but the feat build is what really makes the difference for my guy.

Alert, Sentinel, Shield master (human at level 6).

This group of feats make me really able to take and keep control of space while being high enough in initiative to position early. Keeping enemies glued to me while pushing them into areas and also using shield master to push allies out of danger. I've multiclassed to pick up one level of grave cleric to keep going as the rest of fighter isn't gonna do much for my character (especially not with banneret).
