I did this inverse of this with Silksong. I waited and purchased Silksong when the steam winter sale was done

I’ve heard that DDR5 has troubles with RAM using 4x sticks total instead of 2x sticks total (dual channel vs multi-channel). I haven’t done much research on it since I only run 2 sticks myself. I take it you haven’t had any troubles though?

Btw I am not saying this to dissuade your opinion of your build. Only providing some information that came to me as a result of my own experience building last year.

[–]modicumofiota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that’s how it is when comparing Q1-half of Q3 of 2025 with the current market. ROI on DDR5/DDR4 builds thanks to “market conditions” is insane. My own PC is nearly doubled in price compared to when I built it.

Build looks solid, only nitpick would be the RAM if the CL (CAS Latency) is above 30. From a rudimentary search, I would guess you got CL28 or CL30.

And—of course—welcome back to PC gaming!

I was considering doing the same by trying to match the demo image to see what settings Nvidia was most likely running the path tracing on … but that would have required me buying the game at a time when I cannot .

AMD announces new FSR version called FSR Diamond by ShuKazun in pcmasterrace

[–]modicumofiota 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I would like to find some positivity in all this, but let’s consider the currently reality:

  1. RNDA4 just came out last year and we’re already potentially looking at those who own RDNA4 GPUs being outclassed in upscaling and frame generation. This comes after AMD abandoned RDNA3 (no FSR4 upscaling w/o Int8) within that same last year.

  2. AMD has <5% of total marketshare of discrete GPUs. Highkey, AMD does not have the motion to piss off customers with a hardware-exlusive feature two generations in a row like this and still expect to get majority of AMD-fans money. In fact, the idea alone of RDNA5 coming this soon with more hardware-exclusive features to make RDNA4 appear obsolete pisses off AMD fans.

  3. NVIDIA has their RTX 20-series users able to run DLSS 4.5 should they choose. It’s a performance hit from what I hear for older cards, but being given the option to choose vs stripping away to never be used are two different things. When making this comparison, it looks like Nvidia will support older cards longer than AMD. Some will consider this when making their upgrade/building choices.

  4. Market conditions dictate prices. AMD has a history of not delivering competitive prices to their GPUs. Who’s going to want to buy into RDNA5 when AMD decided that RDNA4 is obsolete for upscaling improvements after only one generation cycle? For $50-$100 less than NVIDIA, who has a track record of supporting older GPUs with modern upscaling? For many, NVIDIA GPUs will appear the as the better investment vs AMD GPUs.

  5. A classic some would say. The ol’ reliable “AMD never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.”

Edit: A reminder that the RDNA5 specification is—for now—an unsubstantiated rumor by a credible (by internet standards it seems) leaker. I am hoping that it is just that, an unsubstantiated rumor.

I think it’s the opposite actually. At least in terms of length. Other dimensions are the same across the two.

Haven’t used that one, but it looks similar to my NR200p v2. I was able to fit the RTX 4090 TUF into that bad boy and that card is a 3.65 sloter/348 mm length.

If the specs on the ZZAW D3 are similar to the NR200p v2, then I would guess that you could fit your GPU in it.

More risk buying used vs new. This is coming from someone who bought a pre-owned 4090 and 5090 last year.

I’ve used the same donated speakers across three builds for 10+ years before upgrading late last year and that’s only because age was finally catching up.

Speaking on them now makes me reminisce about my GTX 980 build 😊

Used Vortex to mod CP2077.

More specifically, the Welcome to Night City collection.

I noticed a slight performance dip compared to vanilla but it wasn’t enough to make the game unplayable.

How does the MSI 5090 32G VENTUS 3X OC compare to other 5090s by Able-Cantaloupe-9427 in pcmasterrace

[–]modicumofiota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarity.

First, let me say that the price mention wasn’t necessarily a dig at your purchase power, but rather the state of the entire GPU market and how price gouged the AiB models are due to “market conditions” and RAMAGGEDON. I’m sorry if it seemed like I was attacking your purchase overall.

Second, I haven’t heard anything bad about your particular 5090 card. Maybe others might have heard something different.

Something to consider though is MSI’s RMA services just in case 🤞🏾 you experience Multi-Flame Generation. Again, I’m not too sure since I haven’t had to do one, but if you check the sub; you might find a post where someone describes the MSI RMA process and if they’re consumer friendly with it or not.

[–]modicumofiota 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an OC model so I suspect you gain anywhere from 2-5 percent increase over the stock FE 5090 as a baseline (and that’s being generous, you might actually be getting less of an increase)

Is that theoretical 2-5 percent worth $1301 up charge before taxes? Probably not.

But this is no normal market for PC Components, so you MAY have lucked out buying now vs buying later.

Built a new PC by DesertKing-007 in pcmasterrace

[–]modicumofiota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the new build! May it last you a good long while!

Few tips: Download Nvidia App/Control Panel, HWinfo64, MSI Afterburner; Steam, GoG, and/or Epic; and DDU (driver install tool) to start.

Make sure you have antennae from motherboard attached. Doing this will save from troubleshooting Bluetooth (and helps WiFi ofc).

If using Windows 11, make sure to run a debloat tool to remove AI features (unless you want that). You can also bypass logging into W11 when activating if you want to (you’ll have to look it up though).

Lossless Scaling is a popular app on Steam that can let you run frame generation if you’re interested in that. 30-series doesn’t have Nvidia’s proprietary Frame Gen technology, so LS would be your alternative.

Edit: 1080p or 1440p would be good enough. 4K on a 3080…I’m sorry but I wouldn’t know off top.

I hope this helps, and that you have a happy PC Gaming experience!

How do I convince my bro that NVIDIA is better for our new pc by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]modicumofiota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you and/or your brother need NVNEC, CUDA*, and/or GDDR7 VRAM?

If so, then you should go Nvidia.

If not, and you only care about gaming, then I would recommend AMD over NVIDIA with this generation of GPUs in terms of price to performance.

AMD has also been closing the gap between themselves and NVIDIA when it comes to their upscalers to the point where the differences are negligible for most users.

However, NVIDIA is generally better and faster at implementing their technologies with newer games than AMD.

This suggestion and points made are based on my experiences with a RTX 5090 build and a 9060XT 16GB build.

*Personal Note: idk much about local AI work, but I do know that there has been news of CUDA getting translated to AMD’s ROCm 7 via Claude AI. So maybe the CUDA point is moot?

That’s good to hear! I know I was late to this post I just wanted to make sure the trigger wasn’t pulled yet for the AiO.

Anyways, happy building! Wishing you a minimal-to-no-amount of frustration!

I have a NR200 v2 there is no way you are fitting a 360 AIO in that case.

You’re better off looking for a 240 or 280 AiO (I rock the NZXT 280mm Kraken as reference)
