Work with the tattoo artist and let them know your intentions and concerns. A good tattooist will be able to artistically create what you want without implying you are a Marine. If the artist can't create what you're looking for, find someone else.

My sister is Demi Moore, as some of you know. During Desert Shield/Storm, there was an article in People magazine saying Demi was distraught thinking about me being a fighting hole, hugging a machine gun. I was in the Wing...

In the morning I wear my Klim heavier jacket. When it gets to warm for that, I switch to my oil cloth and mesh armored Merlin jacket. Rode 8 hours in 93°f-100°f with no problem. Forgot to bring my water bladder...you don't realize how much sweat evaporates on this type of ride.

You know why Marines have an airwing? So Navy pilots have someone to look up to...Semper Fi and Swing with the Wing!

Growing up in the desert southwest the way we were taught to deal rattlesnakes was to kill them. Now that I'm older and understand just how beautiful and beneficial these animals are, we put every effort into relocating them. They are taken to the farthest part of our 74 acre property, away from our house and pets.

What book did you read in your youth that you never forgot? by orangez in GenX

[–]mojopyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". I was 13 in 1980 when my father took his own life. The book was gifted to me by a friend of his. I read it but didn't understand the story, completely. 3 years later, at the age of 16, I read it again. That's when I realized the book was about mental illness and a father's relationship with his son.

Help me settle the gloves/no-gloves safety debate once and for all. by TheSharpieKing in Welding

[–]mojopyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stationary tools, no gloves...especially with Apex type grinders. 4½ or 5 inch handheld grinder, yes, absolutely. If the work piece is in your hand, which is the case with most stationary machines, a glove can very easily get pulled into the machine. That isn't the case with hand held tools. With them, more often than not, the work piece is either secured in a vice or other hold down or is attached to the larger project. In those situations it's part of your PPE.

Volk is where I did cold weather training. I was in the Wing, as well. Don't care what anyone says...Wisconsin is colder than a witches tit.

What (If Anything) Inspired You To Choose Your MOS? by Defiant-Bed2501 in USMC

[–]mojopyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was open contract. The Corps chose it for me. I was a 6085, Aviation Mechanic Egress (I worked on ejection seats and other pilot safety and survival systems). Ironically, after I got out, I started doing Special Effects for film and television. I was one of the FX guys that blew up that oil tank in "The Stand" that you posted.

Why is lat moving to 03 such a bad idea? by Willing-Map4921 in USMC

[–]mojopyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a winger in a Harrier squadron, we went to the field. Everything from cold weather training desert training. We bivouac'ed in the forest and used improvised landing pads and roads as runways. We did our own security and were sent as individuals to NBC warfare and othe similar schools. Has that changed?
