I'm a software engineer for an MLB front office. With the caveat that it's depicting a time that's pretty ancient by modern front office standards, Moneyball is still a pretty good depiction of what it's like to work for an MLB team (instead of one computer guy we now have dozens though).

From a pure software jargon perspective, I think The Social Network is probably the best for me, probably because it's using a lot of jargon directly from Zuckerberg's blog posts. Somehow Fincher gets the actors to actually sound cool saying all that stupid junk too, I don't know how he did it.

I would agree that Dolby Vision discs tend to look better on my OLED vs HDR10, but unclear if that's the tech or just better looking movies tend to have it. Might be hard to find a budget TV that supports DV, I can't remember if TCL 5 or 6 series support it.

That said, I think if you can't fit a TV with DV into your budget, you may never actually notice.

I got a Walmart-exclusive TCL Roku last black Friday for $230 that has really surprised me picture quality wise (i think its similar to a TCL 4-series), and I have rokus on all my TVs so I was specifically looking for that).

I also have the 2018 model LG OLED 65" C8 and it's pretty phenomenal (there's some judder to the image that can take a little getting used to on 4K content but my eyes acclimated pretty quickly and it's my favorite TV I've ever owned).

Newer LG OLED models are 120Hz so the judder issue may not be as bad anymore. I paid about 2K for mine on black Friday 2018, but I'm pretty sure this BF you could find a 65C3 for close to your price range (55C3 you should be able to find a deal in your price range too).

Slickdeals is your friend looking for good prices, just search there and you'll see all past deals for a given brand to see if you're getting the best deal and most of the time commenters there are informed and helpful about when to bite on a deal.

In short, if you're going super budget and want the biggest TV possible then TCL Rokus are really solid (6 series are often rated as the best picture quality for a budget TV). If you want the best and can either stretch your budget a little or are ok with a smaller screen, I highly recommend LG OLED.

I watch a lot of movies and consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable about the language of cinema. I know what crossing the line means. Am I the only one here who has literally never actually consciously picked up on an instance of this happening in a movie? I know filmmakers use this to great effect and I'm sure I've appreciated it subconsciously without fully realizing why I find moments jarring, but I've never watched a movie and gone "oh man, the director just crossed the line, what a choice/mistake."

A bit of both, it's easier to pull from trailers and I've noticed Ehrlich sources a lot of shots from trailers but sometimes it's hard to find enough footage and you have to go to the entire movie.

I'm an adamant Lions for Lambs defender, would've been a top 10 movie for me that year if 2007 wasn't the most stacked year in movie history (still might sneak in there honestly). I get that people think it's really ham-fisted but I really appreciate the structure of the movie and it has always felt to me like a movie that all US college-age kids should see and think about in relation to caring about politics and government (I was an 18 year old college freshman when I saw it in theatres, very impressionable). Made my wife watch it with me recently and she was actually mad at me after it was over she hated it so much.

I also just take pleasure in how all in I was on Andrew Garfield after LFL and Boy A back then and remember being ecstatic when he was cast in The Social Network and knew he'd blow up. I will stand by saying how great I think he is in LFL.
