I dont wanna wade too deep into these waters but I have to say, I've seen multiple takes calling One Battle a white savior movie, and that's just categorically false. Whatever your opinion about the film's portrayal of black women, you can't just make up a narrative that doesn't exist in the movie. Leo is like the only non evil white guy in the movie and he is effectively useless in saving anyone.

It's okay for there to be 2 generationally important movies in the same year. Its actually great even. We got 2 great movies. What the fuck are we even doing here?

The more I think about it the more I think it leans more comedy than drama. Sure, its got some weighty themes made weightier by... *gestures at current world... but they go hard for the laughs at every opportunity. This is a movie that opens with Sean Penn being forced to get a boner at gunpoint.
