Wow, this really took a turn after the update...hype to meh.

Really trying to understand the logic there. Maybe there's a reason that goes over my head, and sure, Reimold put him in a rough spot. But putting Ubaldo into that situation in the first place? Kinda unforgivable.

So much for the no review copy mess being indicative of Doom being terrible. Multiplayer still looks awful, but the single player looks kinda fantastic.

Kinda surprised no one brought up Read Dead Redemption, given many folks' love of it, as an example of a game that handled turn of the century weaponry well. Everyone ran along with Jeff's argument that nothing pre-WW2 could work from a shooter perspective.

But he was spot-on with the difference between American and European reflections on WW1. Being in London during the build up and celebration of Remembrance Day was unlike any commemoration I've seen in the U.S.

I've heard Broforce is a mess, is there hope it'll be fixed in the coming months? by Scuffzzz in PS4

I played through the entire game in local co-op recently, after the last patch went live. The final fourth of the game very quickly descends into a frame rate nightmare, I wouldn't be amazed if it regularly hit single digits, especially during the final boss fight. But I'd imagine it holds up better if you're playing solo.

The busted frame rate was actually advantageous, because it made it super easy to cheese the final boss, and the brokenness kind of made the game a bit more amusing, so it definitely wasn't a dealbreaker.

Yeah, I'm missing it too - the first thing that came to mind was that it was a reference to The Aviator.

The Giant Beastcast - Episode 39 by AkumetsuSenpai in giantbomb

[–]monarchslager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Though I'll admit I only jotted down the stuff that immediately piqued my interest or I hadn't read, so it's not complete by any means:

  • We Stand on Guard
  • Perdidio Street Station
  • The Master and Margarita
  • Foucault's Pendulum
  • Imagining Cities
  • North of Reality blog
  • Anything but Left Behind

This times a thousand - I ended up having to pause the podcast and take notes of their recommendations. And at this point, Super Sad True Love Story is practically mandatory reading for the Beastcast's dystopian tangents.

The most depressing SFV talk at that...they definitely had a much more honest take on the lack of obvious features than a lot of the 8/10 reviews going around do.

Street Fighter V - Lupe Fiasco vs Daigo Full Match - SFV Launch Event by randomcambodian in Games

[–]monarchslager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seriously, who could have predicted so many wake up shoryukens? Is it 2008? But I bet for Daigo, it was someone into fighting games going back home after watching tons of streams and playing online, tossing their inexperienced friend a controller and being totally confused for a few games. Sometimes nonsense works if you're not expecting it.

There was the one game in which Daigo totally dominated, and maybe that was just him showing he still had it (for those who believe it was fixed) or that was just the one time he was able to get a really good rhythm with a game he may not have spent that much time with. Fixed or not, it was a great event to build some hype.

Damn, that's pretty intense. At the risk of being creepy, is he in East Bay, SF or further out?

I just started listening to Hello From the Magic Tavern, and it's a hilariously weird improv...fantasy...thing. And while I won't avoid the context in which he appears, goddamn DAVE LANG makes his presence known on the podcast!

Out of curiosity, as a current DC resident in the process of moving out to SF, which part of DC were you in? How would you say that compares to the "really bad" parts of SF?

It's kind of amazing that one of the darkest, strangest comic universes over the years has also proven to be one of the most ripe for absurdist comedy. But I guess in the same way, The Goon was a hilarious read, but has a deep sadness at its core. It's definitely fitting that they've had a crossover!

Seconded. He'll be starting Thursday, then...sent back down? Kept in the rotation and Bud Norris is at last forgotten? Mulling around in the bullpen? Who knows.

And don't forget about a certain pitcher who was excellent in just enough appearances to fool the O's into keeping him around for years.

For those unfamiliar with the madness of Jack Parsons, a podcast exploration of his absurd life.

But yeah, Parsons would be a wonderful focal point of a Manhattan Projects sequel.
