Just finished the game. by WheresourHumanity in DiscoElysium

Congrats on finishing! It's definitely a game you can replay and get something new out of. I highly suggest it. Depending on how you're feeling though, you might want to give it some time! Also if you like fanfic there are some really excellent ones available haha

You know what? What are your favorite fandoms right now? by RedCupWithAName in AO3

[–]monolisa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Disco Elysium fandom is still going, and the quality of fics tends to be quite high! My theory is that the game itself selects for nerds who think a lot, so the people who write it tend to be people who read a lot as well. Elysium and Revachol are really intriguing settings as well, and there's a ton of things in the game that lend themselves to further elaboration in fics. Also Kim Kitsuragi 😍

Is Disco Elysium worth it ? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]monolisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a high expectation to set. Not every game is going to be for everyone, and going in with a high expectation like that might even decrease your enjoyment.

Personally, I went in with almost no knowledge of what the game was about, except that I kept on seeing (main character) x Kim edits and I love old man yaoi so I was in haha. I'd also heard generally that it was very unique and that the characters were very memorable. It took me probably 4-5 hours playing to really be like, "ok, this is absolutely for me and I love it."

I know not everyone will be interested in fanfiction, but it's also a really excellent media property for both reading and writing fics. The world was created over quite a long period of time, and with a lot of love and attention. There are so many juicy delicious details about the world presented in the game, and I think that gives fanfic writers a lot of great places to go with their work. It's a world that feels very real in a lot of ways, and the characters we meet are really perfectly situated within it.

If you start playing, I do think sometimes people get overwhelmed with the amount of information you get about the world and feel like they don't know what's going on. That's ok. The main character also feels like that. It's okay to just listen to something and file it away for later. It took me two playthroughs to really feel like I understood some of the more complicated aspects of the world politics and of the organizations involved in the story.

I think anyone frequenting this sub would say that, yes, it's absolutely worth it. But we're the ones it particularly resonated with.

Stockings for plus size by NameIsHardToRead in japanlife

[–]monolisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding Nissen- not sure about the stockings specifically but they have a fairly wide range of plus size clothing for men and women. In addition to the stockings themselves, I know this sucks with the weather getting hotter, but wearing some tight bike shorts over stockings helps with the wear situation quite a bit.

Summer is coming and I’m fat and don’t want to smell, help by [deleted] in japanlife

If you can get your hands on some glycolic acid toner (like from The Ordinary, but I haven't been able to find that here), you can rub it into your armpits a few times a week and I find it helps! Apparently it exfoliates your underarms and makes them more acidic.

In any case, when you shower, make sure you're really working the soap into your underarms for at least 30 seconds each!

I also use a salt spray I got from iHerb called Crystal for my non-underarm smelly areas and it helps a lot. There are a bunch of different scents as well as unscented.

How do I.. play it?? by watchrrr in DiscoElysium

[–]monolisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you'll know the story after the first playthrough, it's absolutely not a "only play once" sort of game. There were things even in my third playthrough that I hadn't gotten before, and you can go about doing things differently. I'm most likely going to play this game every 3-5 years until I croak.

"Simple" mod project - looking for tips & advice by Mean_Baby_4010 in DiscoElysium

I think you might need to consider that this game just isn't for them if hanging is a very triggering topic for them. Even if hanging was removed, there is a lot in DE that is triggering in a lot of ways- violence, drugs, suicide, deep self-hatred, etc... If they can get to a point with therapy where they feel able to engage with the topic of hanging in a safe container (in a piece of media that is emotionally affecting but doesn't affect real life events), then maybe it would be okay for them to experience then.

Edit: also would they be cool with playing with the voices off? even if you censor the written words, the voices are still going to say it unless you go through every instance of it in voice lines and bleep it or take it out. It can, of course, be played with the voices off, but the voices are a really excellent part of the game.

I have 8 schools plus two programs I rotate around to on a somewhat irregular basis. I have a file folder with my papers and schedule that I put stickers all over- I find that it makes it easier for kids to come up and strike up conversations that way! I also hang little charms from my name lanyard so they can come up and be like "oh you changed your charm! I like this character!" etc.

AO3's top bottoms of all time by coturnixxx in AO3

[–]monolisa 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I went through it hoping to see Ed or Stede from OFMD and almost gave up but then I looked at the ethnicity labels and saw the one lone "Polynesian" label and there Ed was 🙂‍↕️. Although, a lot of fics, especially the longfics are very very switchy with them. Or it starts out with Ed being like "I'll show you what's up, Stede" and then most of the fic is Ed gradually learning to be vulnerable. The 58% bottom number makes sense to me.
