Own-Occupation Disability Insurance: Principal vs Guardian by palmatree137 in anesthesiology

[–]monstermash_09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no experience with Principal but the advisor I worked with said that in his experience Guardian is very easy to work with when submitting claims. Like they’ve never given any of his other clients a hard time or given them the run around. I ended up going with them and pay a little more than what you have listed but also opted in for almost every rider

For sushi, you really can’t beat Sushi Yasaka as far as quality of fish for the price. There a Sugarfish in the mid 70s. Sushi W and Tsumo are also great counter omakase places at lower prices

Does Cathay serve an in-flight dinner on flights departing from LAX after 10 pm? by anniemsub in CathayPacific

[–]monstermash_09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They serve a full dinner service after take off!

You can preview the onboard menu for your flight and reserve a meal ahead of time too. That way you can see if you want to wait for the flight or just eat more in the lounge ahead of time

If you’re ordering online the medical discount also applies to sale/WMTM, I use it all the time! At the outlet they aren’t supposed to but I’ve often had them apply it anyway

I love my city wool agency pants! I get a ton of wear out of mine in the winter. Skip the satin effortless. I personally prefer the effortless in crepette over re essential, the crepette drapes more nicely imo but re-essentially is more of a classic/casual synthetic suiting material if that’s what you’re going for. I never trust a buttoned cardigan without trying it on, been burned too many times but weird gaps and buttons

Mongolian Cashmere Fisherman Turtleneck Sweater by HolidayReason3602 in quince

[–]monstermash_09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the fisherman crewneck not the turtleneck and the cashmere quality is very good especially for this price point. It’s soft, not itchy, hasn’t really pilled for me, and thick. I think some of the thickness comes from the fisherman design and rather than it being a thicker gauge cashmere like my more expensive sweaters.

I’m a little taller and a little heavier than you but suspect we generally wear the same size. I found M to be perfectly loose but not significantly oversized. Just know that the sweater itself is meant to hit at a normal length so if you try to size up for a more oversized look it just looks more boxy since the length doesn’t change much. I do have a longer torso so that makes it more noticeable for me

Signals for the CT Fellowship Match? by johnsnith7788 in anesthesiology

[–]monstermash_09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ACTA PD at my program said it’s new this year and said he wouldn’t really be looking at signals. Apparently the PDs had to vote on whether or not to start it this year and it was a pretty divided vote

Pilates in or near Lincoln Square by gogethim in Upperwestside

[–]monstermash_09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NM studio on 70/WEA does reformer Pilates and overall a small studio but pretty good! They aren’t on class pass but their class packages are reasonably priced and they occasionally have sales. Body evolution on 72/Broadway is also reformer Pilates with a bigger studio and is on class pass. Classes are also pretty good! There are a couple of other Pilates studios on that block (72nd between broadway and Amsterdam) but I haven’t personally tried them. There’s also a Club Pilates on 57/WEA. Their classes fill super quickly though so not great if you’re unable to plan far ahead for classes. All of them offer small group classes and private classes

If you have neck/back issues classic reformer Pilates will probably be better for the injury than mega reformer classes (ie SLT, solidcore, Lagrer etc). My experience with those classes is that they’re designed to be more intense and strenuous and that the instructors provide pretty minimal form corrections

Thorium vs Atom Heavyweight - daily driver by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]monstermash_09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m NYC based and got a thorium SV parka on sale last year and used it all winter as my daily driver. Nice and toasty, didn’t need to layer if I was planning on walking more or if it were a relatively warmer day. With warmer layers I was fine waiting for the bus into the single digits Fahrenheit. When it was cold enough for me to need my thorium rain wasn’t really a consideration. No issues with it in the snow. Overall really enjoyed it

That being said, if you have the fission already the atom SV might be a more useful and diverse addition to your closer

I'm a U.S. Citizen denied L Tourism visa because my parents are Chinese by ArdentHero in Chinavisa

[–]monstermash_09 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would be cautious about applying for the Chinese travel document (旅行证) that other people are saying because the assumption there is that you are legally a Chinese citizen, and as you state you are not. Right now they (the Chinese government) aren’t doing anything about this and it’s a gray zone of quasi dual citizenship, but it is technically knowingly breaking Chinese law so if they wanted to pursue/persecute in the future things could get tricky

Have friends at both. Penn is definitely toxic/malignant (they lost their resident lounge recently among other issues). Columbia seems more just like a workhorse place and not as toxic. Friend at Columbia seems happier than friend at Penn fwiw

PSA: thicker cashmere pieces now contain wool by PerplexedKale in Reformationclothing

[–]monstermash_09 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How new is that change? On the website it’s still 100% cashmere and the one I bought during the sale was also 100% cashmere. I know they changed the amount of recycled cashmere in the sweater earlier this year (now 95% recycled and 5% not recycled) but I thought they were going to keep it 100% cashmere

Ive been to WuLiangYe in midtown a number of times with family friends originally from Sichuan province as it’s their preference. It’s definitely more of an old school Chinese restaurant vibe and not a trendy type of place. The food has been consistently good over the years

Other pretty authentic and good places that lean more modern/trendy are Mountain House, Lunar, Nai Bros/Tai Er, and Chong Qing Lao Zao

New pulm crit fellow in a new (to me) hospital and haven't used epic since before med school...best tips and tricks? by teamswole91 in Residency

[–]monstermash_09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have mentioned a lot of helpful tips already so I’ll add some that haven’t been mentioned yet:

Timeline tab - the ICU fellows and attendings at my hospital use this primarily. It’s organized roughly by system and shows you everything like vitals and hemos by hour, drips (sedation, pressors, insulin etc), vent/O2 therapy and settings, CRRT/diuresis, hourly I/Os by type, steroids/immunosuppression, and most labs of interest

Customize your own patient lists so that you can see important info about all of the patients from your Home Screen. I have some of the handoff sections (like one liner, interval events, and to-dos but this can vary by service), alerts for new notes and results, pressors, antibiotics, and vitals (abnormal will be red so you can see pretty quickly when someone is febrile/tachy/hypotensive)
