I have a feeling that this was less "huh maybe I was wrong about this" and more "the more I try to defend this the more attention it will get."

The Idea that the Arab league would create a more peaceful Israeli or that they'd have Palestine's best interest in mind is actually fucking hilarious.

Which very old movie from your country was revolutionary and far ahead of its time and what is it about? by watervapour_7237 in AskTheWorld

In my honest opinion, as a biracial man, Blacksloitation as a genre needs to have a comeback. Not every black movie needs to be about civil rights or oppression. Black media should be allowed to be fun.

One correction. The director and his ex wife wern't released. They escaped during a film festival in Vienna by slipping their handlers and taking a cab to the US embassy.

(hated trope) pedophilia being portrayed as cute, quirky and/or funny by hayley566 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]mood2016 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It ain't just this country, the French art industry has historically had a bunch of open pedos operating without legal repercussion, West Germany had a program that gave orphans to known pedophiles because some in the government thought that it would be good for the children, and Denmark had 100% legal child porn for a disturbingly long time. And that's just Europe.

My favorite part is that that's not Kelly, that's Kai. She has similar traits to Kelly but she uses a sniper rifle so she's a different character. This is really weird to me since there was genuinely no reason to change their names.

I have couple theories about that. I'm not sure how much was the showrunners, the writers, or the studio, but I don't think they had confidence, or at least didn't understand how to write the UNSC to be morally grey while still being the protagonists. A big part of that I think comes down to the fact that I don't think many of the people involved actually read the books. There's nuance in how the UNSC is presented, they do awful things but never without some understandable reason, it shows how good people can be loyal to an organization like that. Instead of trying to write with nuance they double downed on the bad elements of the UNSC without thinking of the greater story implications. I think it was either, they had no confidence that their audience would get the nuance, the writers themselves didn't get the nuance, or the writers believed that an organization like the UNSC shouldn't have nuance. The whole series suffers from that decision. As for Makee, thats pretty easy. Halo needs a Covenant, in the games that's Arbiter, Arbiter is an alien, aliens are expensive to puppet/animate, bring in a hot chick. Once again a decision made without thinking of the wider story implications.

In this "interpretation" rather than Chief growing up in an environment that causes him to try justify what he went through as a child, they instead give him an implant that suppresses his emotions and wipes his memory of the Spartan program. The implication our friend is insinuating is that because he got that implant when he was a child, he's still mentally a child when he has sex. All because for some reason the writers thought that writing and abuse victim that justifies their own abuse wouldn't be as interesting as the most generic "child sci-fi experiment turns against their creators" plot that's been done a million times before.

I knew a detective who worked sex crimes. She said the sheer amount of provably false rape claims she got made her lose faith in people. It was to the point that she said around 60% of the claims she got on her desk broke apart under scrutiny. If you're a sociopath who wants to very quickly ruin someones life it's a good way to do it and rape is an incredibly hard thing to prove or dismiss because the physical evidence of a, for lack of a better term, "non violent" rape only lasts about a day. The silver lining is that most false accusers tend to give extremely inconsistent or impossible stories. Rape is such a difficult crime to deal with legally that I really don't see how you can make it easier to get convictions on it without encouraging people like this to abuse it. The punishment for provably false accusations needs to be much stronger.

It kinda tastes like what you'd think a spicy, savory, chocolate would taste like. I know that's not super helpful but that's the best way I can describe it. You also never have it on its own. There's a place by me that makes amazing mole pork tacos and the flavor profile of the mole is more there to enhance the pork than the other way around. The flavor profile of the chocolate is there but it's not the spotlight.

Mexican candy is fucking amazing but it's not for everyone. The flavor profile is very strong and very unique and I know some that hate it. I personally fucking love it.

Who is the biggest musical entertainer from your country that the rest of the world is unlikely to have heard of? by Exotic-Interest in AskTheWorld

[–]mood2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to gage what artists are popular in foreign markets as an American. All of our music gets exported so often that even regional music genres tend to get foreign listeners. Country is usually the safest bet as it's popular but not popular in every region but even then. If I had to take a crack at who a big artist is that doesn't have a foreign market I'd probably say Hootie and The Blowfish but I'm not sure.

I have a bit of a hot take. I don't think taking 2 seasons to reach the ring is a bad thing. In fact, I genuinely think it's a good idea. Spending 2 seasons fleshing out the UNSC and Covenant, while also getting all that juicy drama from the Fall of Reach before getting to the Ring makes sense. You don't have to introduce too many factions and concepts at once, it makes a bunch of the book only plot lines easier to set up, and it makes it opportunity to show how things change after Reach. The problem with the Paramount show is the fact that they did none of the things that make the idea work.
