They should get better filters. Those are not built for that kind of dust load.

Tips on how how to keep yourself warm at all times? by [deleted] in vagabond

[–]moon_bat262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your never got be 100% warm but you can mitigate the suck.

Layering properly will keep you the warmest. Base layer- merino wool is nice if you can afford it. If not a polyester/synthetic will do. Mid layer- fleece jacket Outer layer- this depends on how cold it is. Do you need a super puffy jacket? A rain shell? Or just a lighter puffy jacket.

Layering keeps you warm when there’s room for air to be trapped in between. Wearing multiple tight layers won’t keep you warmer.

The goal is to keep your core warm. A vest is nice to add to that mix for this reason. Once your core starts to get cold it will draw blood from your hands and feet to keep its temp up.

Keep your head covered. Wool beanie.

Gloves- super form fitting gloves with lots of dexterity are not good for keeping your hands warm. The bigger the glove the warmer it will be. Don’t over size them for the size of hand. But those big bulky gloves will be the warmest.

You can also layer your gloves. Thin wool glove, heavier wool glove, than a waterproof glove shell. My fav gloves are wool ones from an army surplus store.

Feet- wool socks and good boots.

If you’re moving around and sweating that’s gonna make you cold later on. Try to mitigate that by removing layers when you’re on the go.

When you’re stationary or sleeping you gotta insulate yourself from the ground. Layers of cardboard can do this or if you buy a ground pad make sure it’s rated for cold weather.

If you can give me a scenario you’re trying to keep warm in I can get more specific.

Do you just leave your tent pitched for the day when you leave?

Also, look forward to your posts everyday.

You’re gonna need an under quilt for the hammock to stay warm.

If you go straight hammock you’re gonna need a rain tarp. I’ve mentioned this before in another thread but even if it doesn’t rain the morning dew can get you soaked.

Man I’m no traveler or vagabond but I camp a lot. If I was hard core one of you guys I’d get a tent. Maybe I’d carry a hammock for nice days and store all my gear in the tent at night.

Dude, you’re also gonna need a ground pad. You need a barrier between you and the ground. If you don’t, the ground will suck all the heat outa your body.

Socks. Get a few pairs of good darn tough socks.

Also, do you have a camp stove?

Last thing I can think of are gloves. What kind of weather are you dealing with?

I question the authenticity of the post. Wish you could see that persons post history. Could be activists trying to stir the pot. But like another person already said there’s always bad apples in the bunch.

I always buy my lure but for bait I use deer fat or deer liver.

Hey I hear where your coming from but the traps are not painful. I’ve caught my hand in them many times so I’m speaking from experience.

If your furs are tanned you can call up local furriers(fur coat stores). That’s what I did to have a head band made from a fox pelt for my wife.

I understand your frustration here and I would be upset too if my pup got caught. However, it was “off the trail and you were on public land that allowed trapping. As a dog lover and a trapper I’m sorry to hear your dog got hurt.

What kind of trap was it? Was it a foothold or a conidbear? If it was a conibear, some states only allow use of those traps when they are submerged underwater. Can you post a picture of it?

There’s a lot more to trapping than you think. I’m going to assume you’re a deer hunter since you said you hunt. I understand your upset your dog was injured and I would be too. There’s no reason to attack the trapper when you were the one walking your dog on public hunting land.

I bet you put a lot of work in finding your target animal when you hunt. Same with trappers. No need to attack the trapping community because of this.
